I leave for my mini vacation to the East coast tomorrow evening, and I'm so excited. The time actually went by quickly, because I wasn't dwelling on the day. I wasn't biding my time until February 18. I simply lived each and every moment and day. And now, the time has come for me to visit my favorite city and bookstore, see two great actors on Broadway, share a nice Cuban meal with a special friend/sister, and then, spend quality time with my son eating good food and sightseeing in his new city--D.C. He doesn't yet know, but I'm taking (read: dragging) him back to the MLK memorial. I think it would be nice to visit the memorial during Black History Month. A homage of sorts.
Here's to working for a school district that celebrates Presidents' Day and Lunar New Year this Thursday and Friday!
Despite the fact that racism against African-Americans is still very prevalent, I was proud at the turn-out at the MLK monument in Washington, D.C today. It was incredibly diverse and people of all races, ages, and ethnicities were there paying their respects to one of the most influential men in history. I even overheard a Caucasian couple telling their very young children about MLK and his accomplishments. There is still some good in the world.
It was just amazing.
