" Are the words my father would tell me in times of dilemma. My dad grew up watching the fight for civil rights play out on the social plane during his teens and young adulthood. He had to grow up during up a time when the early reverberations of slavery were being felt through Jim Crow laws and blatant hate. Those waves of injustice are still being felt today, so I carry those words with me everyday to stand up in times of injustice and speak up for those who have been silenced. The gains and strides fought by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. are ones I am grateful for everyday I go to school, go to work, even just go about my day.
