What the wall looks like filling up and pushing forward
See I really like how things look in spectator mode, which is why some day I'll be filling in all the caves near the base that I don't decide to do anything with. I want super clear spectator sight lines
Anyway, I think that this looks very cool in spectator mode, this initial bit I have so far
Finally caught on video a wandering trader hanging their alpaca, this isn't the first time they've done this
Here's what that looks like in action. Hours of work to get it to do this
Also I've come to a conclusion about that clock I want to make in the Caverns of Time... it's not the redstone that'll be hard, it's making a good looking clock face in minecraft
I'm not saying that the redstone will be easy, it won't, but... seriously, try and make a circle with 12 equally distributed points and you'll see the problem. In fact, pretty much every picture of a clock face someone's made in minecraft that I can find has 8 points on it, not 12
I'm thinking a diameter of like... 15-25, and if you can think of a way to make a beautiful face with the ability for a hand to point to each of the 12 numbers, I welcome it, I'll take a look at what you make (preferably odd, though I think saying it should look good kinda forces your hand on that)
Circle with 12,3,6,9... that's easy... but how to get 1&2 to look good, that's the tricky bit, you know?
I'm sure I'll figure it out and then long for the day I was just trying to decorate it instead of trying to do the redstone, but right now that has me stumped (but I also didn't think too hard on it either)
Well I'm still working on the lava pool, and that path is just shaping it and not even close to detailed properly, but I think I'm starting to like this side of things. I think I do like the clay pools at this point (they'll have water coming in from above, I just don't want to deal with it right now, but I have checked where it lands)
Slowly getting closer and closer. I suppose part of why it takes me so long is just how much detail I put into every spot
Also done some more work on the walls, but that doesn't look that interesting, especially when it's just stone shaping and not even the textured version
Still so much to do, I wish I was done, but... I mean... I don't think anyone else is gonna have a cave quite like how this one'll be when I actually have it finished, and when I finish it that's the base like 80% done cause this is like 30% of the base right here
What I'm always trying to shoot for instead of perfection is "this is what belongs here", you know, "this is the right thing for this space, this is what would be in the world at this spot". Try to focus on that so I don't go insane trying to make every last little spot the best thing that's ever been made
Anyway, I'd say this is right for this spot. It's one of those waterfall ledges, and it'll lead up into a ravine in the ocean, but I think this is what the intake should look like this side
Bonus question, can you spot the tunnel that leads to the library drop down? It's right in plain view (I can only barely tell where it is knowing that it's dead center like one block to the left of the waterfall)
Also I had more water leak, thankfully after a moment of panic I went straight to tick freeze again. Fuck this water trying to destroy the vegetation I meticulously placed. On the server the ceiling is getting done before anything else, and there's many reasons to do that, but this is a huge one)
...anyway, hopefully tomorrow I'll be human enough to finally talk again
Argh, I'm having really good ideas while not even being finished with half the stuff I'm trying to work on
The Caverns of Time are going to be a tiered garden in a hot springs style geothermal... big open cave, all under the snowy area we have. That's the actual idea for the Caverns of Time proper, and it looks very good in my head but isn't actually the part I'm getting ideas on because I've just had that one for a while. I'm getting ideas for the tunnel that leads to the Caverns of Time (though I don't quite see how they connect yet)
I have ideas around how to sync end crystals movement. I think that if I just figure out how many ticks it takes to do a cycle, I could make a timer that lasts exactly long enough, and have a piston in front of everywhere I want to put them, and it retracts a block only for one tick so that every one gets placed on the same relative tick in the cycle
This isn't the idea either, this is just something I want to have in the walls of the tunnel and have for some time. Perfectly in sync end crystals, unless of course I decided that a one tick delay between each would look better so they made a wave... I'd have to see... not actually the point either
The new idea is this:
In the snowy cave a wall pulls back, not a simple 1x2 door, but something large and custom. It leads to a large spiral staircase with a wide gap in the middle, end crystals every 90 degrees, maybe 45 too
At the bottom of this, a working clock face, powered off a daylight sensor hidden under a snow layer. This is the sick in the head part of the project that will just look... so good
The two things I'd need to do is figure out how to have a proper 24 hour timer synched with the world time. I worry that just a daylight sensor would get knocked off balance when it rained... but... I'm sure someone's already figured this out
The second bit is of course the clock face... I'd need to figure out... how I wanted to do a number of things with it
Obviously it would have to read the clock and be able to just swap to whatever time it actually was, so it could change if someone slept through the night. I think that perhaps instead of say... pushing the hands of the clock around, instead having block swappers where set hand positions could have the blocks pulled down and replaced with a raised clock hand would be the way to go
I also would need to either do a 24 hour clock, or I'm thinking of having... I'd prefer the background of the clock, but that might be hard to make the redstone fit, so probably the exterior ring would be set up with another set of block swappers that would need like... an AM and PM block set... though... I'd really rather it be day and night block sets... I'd have to think on that, maybe it's just your job to intuit that 12 dark means it must be midnight... I'll think
Anyway, then the tunnel would go straight, or maybe at a slant over to the Caverns of Time, that's clearly not the hard part or the part where I'm curing having a great idea
That clock face in the floor at the bottom of the spiraling stairs, that's the... what an awful project that'll be so cool when it's done... so uniquely mine (still need to finish the moon clock)
It just really adds another time element to the Caverns of Time (I will be shocked if anyone can figure out why they're called that, because it's a straight forward answer but it's happening entirely inside my head and I just doubt anyone has the info they need to guess it)
A massive jeweled or otherwise ornate clock face, in the floor, with raised hands sticking up out of the ground... it's very very cool, it's just also something I don't think I can just look up a design for on youtube (and for once don't really want to either, most clocks are Create, and... eh... none have really ever been quite what I want, and all of them I've seen are wall mounted which is gonna be totally different redstone than having it on the floor)
Such a good idea, wish I was done with all my other projects so I could leap straight to it
