Designing a space, whether it is your home, your boat, or any other interior, isn’t an easy task. In fact, interior designers spend years perfecting their craft in order to begin decorating and designing homes that their clients love. Whether you have a small area to decorate or a house full of square footage, the way you design your space can affect your overall happiness in more ways than one.
To get an idea of how to successfully design a space, we spoke with designer Mimi Masri of MMDesigns, LLC for her top tips.
PAY ATTENTION TO SIZE
The scale of your furniture has to compliment the size of your space. It will either invite you into your space, repel you from entering your space or make you laugh out loud at its absurdity.

USE MIRRORS
Use mirrors to widen your room, heighten your ceiling, or brighten your room. Balance plays a very important role in your design. One element should never overpower another. The viewer should be able to travel around the entire space without being compelled to stop at any one point more than any other.
INCORPORATE A COMPLIMENTARY COLOR SCHEME
Depending on which color scheme you have in mind, remember that a complimentary color scheme is the simplest to use. If this is your first time designing your home start with two colors on opposite sides of the color wheel. Graduate into high contrasting colors in small doses.

FIND A SENSE OF HARMONY
Overall you want your space to have a sense of harmony: the pleasing arrangement of parts. The most important element in any project is a heaping amount of fun. Creativity should always be ultimately and unabashedly fun not frustrating. If you are not finding the process fun, find someone who will help you have fun with your project. Your home is where you retire to each day. It should be the happiest and most pleasant place on earth.
