SKSKSKDKD I love this ask 😂 oh Adam would definitely call him it. Adam would send him links to every article that listed him as a nepo baby. Ronan would complain about it to Gansey and Blue would overhear and be like "but you are." I think he'd be pissed off and indignant about it but then he'd also know it's kind of true so if he ever got asked about it in the media he'd just be like, "So? 🤨"

I just thought it would be funny if everyone was expecting a cheesy romantic song and it ended up being this super sad breakup like song like tswift and her partner writing exile lmao but then they end up covering a touching love song like I will you into the dark in a show and the media is confused but they are just having fun 😌

I have kind of thought about this on and off over the time since I wrote mmhtyr! I was thinking about Ronan and Adam being stuck at the Barns together during covid lockdown and how they would write music together in that time. I think that because of the different genres that they write in, their collaborative stuff would end up being quite different too, and end up not fitting either of their current bands particularly well. So. In this vague lockdown-era fic, Adam and Ronan start a project that they call 'Cicero' and they post a few tracks on SoundCloud under that name. In every post-lockdown interview they get asked if they're ever going to release or perform anything as Cicero and they're both cagey about the answer, but they never quite say no!

I don't know if this is too much to ask, if it is please forgive me and ignore it! I just saw the latest asks... Could you possibly write something small where Ronan & Adam say goodbye at the airport or whatever, not wanting to let go? ☹️ esp when they're going to be apart for long afterwards. 💔 breaking my own heart here but hey

"This is getting embarrassing," Adam says, his words muffled in the side of Ronan's neck. The sound of the airport terminal is loud around them, almost drowning out Ronan's answering grunt, but Adam feels the vibration of it in his chest.

"I need to go, Ronan," Adam says, and he turns his head to kiss the side of Ronan's head. Ronan's arms tighten around him, not that Adam was trying to go anywhere yet.

"I know," Ronan says, softly. His arms slacken around Adam, slide down his sides and squeeze his hips before letting him go. Adam steps back, reluctantly, and grabs his carry-on bag. Next to them, Blue is saying goodbye to Gansey, tucking something he'd given her away into her own bag.

"Enjoy Australia," Adam says. He smooths his hands over Ronan's shoulders. They've got a week before they leave, but Adam doesn't know if he'll speak to Ronan before then.

"Yeah, whatever," Ronan says, looking away at the check-in desks, and not meaning it. Adam laughs, and Ronan looks back at him.

"Are you ready?" Blue asks. She nods to the escalators that lead up to security. Adam glances at her and nods his agreement.

"You're going to have a great time. I'm going to have a great time. We won't have chance to miss each other," Adam says, and he kisses Ronan one more time, before he can argue with him.

He's halfway up the escalator when he hears Ronan call his name. He turns around and Ronan's standing at the bottom. Adam's better judgement doesn't get involved as he leaps down the up escalator back to Ronan.

"What?" Adam says when he gets back to Ronan. He can hear Blue shouting his name over the din of the airport.

Ronan laughs at him. "There's a set of stairs, Parrish."

Adam shrugs. "Quicker," and he does what he assumed Ronan called him back for, and kisses him again, hard and deep and unforgettable. Adam really does have to go though. "See you later, Lynch," he says, and he means I love you.

"See you, Parrish." I love you too.

As he pulls back, Ronan presses something into his hand. Adam doesn't look down at what Ronan gave him until he's on the escalator and he smiles widely at it when he does.

In the queue for security with Blue, Adam ties the leather wristband around wrist.

It is amazing, and it adds so much to the original fic!!! I'm seriously in awe of how much effort has gone into this, and I love that what it adds to the original fic!!!

i am THIS close to reading mmhtyr again!!! for the millionth time. it is so so so so good. by this point all i need is ronan singing the song to / for adam. would you ever write that? (ok i will take everything else as well haha!) have a lovely day!

Adam recognises the song by the first note. He hadn't been not paying attention, but this is the fourth Nightwash show he's seen this month. As entertaining as it is watching Ronan on stage, sometimes there are other things on his phone that require his attention.

But that opening chord progression will always gets Adam's attention. He snaps his head up from his phone instinctively. Ronan's swapped places with Gansey, and he's speaking into the microphone.

"I wrote this song," he says. The crowd screams. "For this asshole, who happens to be here tonight. It's five years today, since something, and I don't know if he's forgotten, or he's just pretending to, but fuck it. This is tamquam alter idem."

Adam hadn't forgotten. Five years since he first kissed Ronan in Henrietta. He had plans, all for later. But Ronan's upstaged him. Tamquam alter idem isn't even on the setlist for this tour, but they're playing it anyway. For him. Ronan's singing it. For him.

He doesn't know what to do. Ronan hasn't looked back at him, he's focussed on the song. Henry grins and sticks his tongue out at Adam; a member of the tech crew claps him on the back as he passes; Gansey looks like he's going to cry.

Fuck, Adam might cry. That's his song. He wavers on the edge of the stage, watching the lights from the crowd, and listening to thousands of voices sing along with Ronan.

When the final notes ring out across the stadium, Adam doesn't think about what he's doing. He rushes onto the stage and fists his hands in Ronan's shirt and kisses him, hard, in front of tens of thousands of people. The screaming escalates, but it could be silent for all Adam cares. All he knows is the kiss, and the impossible, incredible man he's in love with.

Ahhh I love this question!!! Forgive me for this essay answer!!! Under a cut cos it's kind of long!

So Gansey is the first person to hear the song. He'd read the lyrics in Ronan's notebook but the first time he hears Ronan sing it himself, stripped back and acoustic, he's struck by how personal the song is. (He suggests, again, that Ronan be the one to sing the final version; Ronan concedes to singing backing vocals.) Gansey also feels strangely proud of Ronan, whenever he performs or hears the song, of how much he's grown and overcome in the past couple of years. He often feels like the song represents a part of Ronan that hadn't existed before Adam, or had at least only been a very small part of him.

The first time Noah and Henry hear it, they're both quiet for a bit, just processing the meaning of the song, and what it means that it's so different to previous Nightwash songs that Ronan had written. And then Henry says, "Damn Lynch, Parrish has turned you into a softie," and Noah says, "How am I supposed to play the drums on this?" and it helps because Ronan feels a little bit less vulnerable about the song. They work on it together, the four of them, until it feels a bit more like a Nightwash song and Ronan feels less exposed when new people hear it.

There's never confirmation from the band that the song is about Adam, but as soon as the song is out all the speculation starts. As the last track on the acoustic EP 'Insomnia Sessions' it stands out. People immediately begin looking into the writing credits of it, convinced that it sounds a little too much 'Page of Cups'-esque for Adam to not have had a hand in it. There are a lot of edits on Tumblr with the lyrics posted over pictures of them together and a lot fans tweeting all of them to ask what the song is about.

Of course, there are few fans that are insistent that the song is by Ronan about Gansey... Even when Ronan performs it for Adam when Adam is there!
