What does MMIWG2S+ mean? I've never seen it before
MMIWG2S+ stands for missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, two spirit, and the plus is for other relatives. Some people (myself included) have transitioned to saying MMIR to stand for missing and murdered Indigenous relatives, to include our indigenous men who are missing and murdered as well. The movement was started in Canada and the United States but can also apply to Indigenous people globally such as all of turtle island (including what’s how known as Mexico), south and Central America, Australia, Polynesia, etc… In Canada (where I live) it is considered a national crisis and there has been a National inquiry, although the government and police force is still complicit. It is a continuation of genocide and colonialism.

CW: murder, anti-Indigenous racism
There’s a good docuseries on Hulu that centers Native women including Joy Harjo in remembering and fighting for justice for Annie Mae Aquash
I’d encourage everyone to watch it, especially those unfamiliar with AIM and some of the questions ppl still have about her murder.
Image ID: A movie poster featuring a Mi'kmaq woman with long black hair looking straight ahead with a red streak across her mouth. ONYX Collective's "Vow of Silence: The Assassination of Annie Mae" is in white text. All episodes now streaming on Hulu.

I’m wearing braids today for Cole Brings Plenty and the Brings Plenty family, who have suffered a terrible loss. Cole Brings Plenty was murdered and his braids cut off. Today we wear braids to show solidarity with the Brings Plenty family and the indigenous peoples of the world - who have faced far too much violence and oppression. We see you, we stand with you.
Rest in power, Cole.
