I forgot i was supposed to make a traveler rant, I have that adhd dementia. I’m also tired but also very opinionated so I’m going to flow like sweat off of a twunk’s cheeks and drop some stuff.
Traveler definitely gets mid-characterized, and on one hand that’s due to people mainly knowing LU off of fanfic, and thus the fanon versions of the characters, but it also is just due to a flanderization of his core traits without much thought being put into the w h y s of his personality.
Like take his humility- Traveler is considers himself a humble traveler not out of any self loathing or self esteem. He had the confidence to take on ganon as a 12 year old for farore’s sake. I think it’s an active choice, that despite all he’s done he decides to consider himself just a humble traveler- not a great hero. He’s a humble person in general too, and doesn’t like to dwell on his accomplishments. I think when he said “I must’ve had it easy” it was due to him empathizing with Wild’s plight, Traveler puts the issues of others before himself- he isn’t going to think his journey was anything special compared to wild’s memory loss and ganon fighting.
Though that is wrong Traveler, your games were HELL and they were not easy by any means. He needs to give himself more slack.
I do think Traveler is great with empathizing, and understanding people, my personal interpretation is that apart of why he loves adventuring is meeting people, getting to know new cultures. That would require him at least like his life, and where he is generally. Links are messengers of hope, no matter how dark their era is- their goodness and optimism will always shine through.
I have more but this is just some off the stuff thoughts in the two hours I have before work.
