Poppy’s birthday is Thursday. He would have been 81. I find myself, as is my won’t, losing track of the amount of time he’s been gone. For me, there is “before,” and “after” and the space of it is irrelevant. The point in the middle is largely a blur but certain things stand out. Like this video... for his Memorial party I’d put the call out to my Music and Art family and an assortment of my sisters came through. Looking at the video I can see who was there but at the time it was a blur of hearts and hugs. But I will be FOREVER grateful to them and particularly grateful to Anthony G Evans on piano, and @victortrentcook who took the time to bless my family with their prodigious talent and faith in God. And I’d had one idea in mind but they did their own thing and it was perfectly what was needed. A special thank you to my M and A fam. And also @hsanyc for hosting us. #mna4life #laguardiahighschool #imissyouPoppy #happybirthdayinthestars #williammelvinkelley #blackwriter #bronxwriter #stillharlemtho (at The Harlem School of the Arts) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpkRO82l20n/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1m9sfu8gdr1d3
