How in the world did meng became a part of the 64 kusuriuri's? I mean he's probably a lot older than he looks but still???

You're correct, tho. He's pretty old. His tiny and juvenile stature makes his job rather difficult as the adults he interacts with don't take him seriously most of the time. Sometimes other kusus join him to assist. It frustrates him, but he thinks he's getting better at his job.

His performance is certainly better than Gu's.

Like kusu vs kusu and shingi vs shingi. Either one big brawl or pvp.

Hard to say. But I can confidently say who would lose pretty much instantly.

Kusu brawl: Gu would lose. He doesn't like violence in general, but also he would rather eat than fight, so he's an immediate walk-out. Jia Ren would follow Gu lol. Then Meng. Because he gets disqualified for being so small and childlike (despite his protests).

The winners, it would be super close between Heng (has plenty of experience), Tai (also old, but very spry and tricky), and Feng (scarily violent).

Shingi brawl: Gu shingi would lose. His poor relationship with his Kusu has rendered him the weakest of the 11 (!!!) Shingi so.....

The winner would be difficult to pick..but I would pick the newcomer Da Zhuang. He is a freak and would sink his teeth into any and all things. No one would want to deal with him. (Maybe Gon Shingi, but otherwise no one)

Not gonna lie but I feel like Tai kusuriuri is secretly a menace to society/gremlin (not literally but if you know what i mean), and his shingi is his partner in crime lol

He's one of the oldest out of the bunch. Him and his Shingi are very close. He's more into entertaining and clowning tho. His prankster days are behind him...for the most part.

I’m surprised Gu Shingi’s grief hasn’t attracted his own mononoke. That’s so cold leaving his wielders unprotected like that

They kinda are. I lean more on the theory of the kusus, (at least the majority of them) being kitsune, of which are of Inari. If your little warriors are acting up, it only makes sense to put them right. The Jyu-Yoku is one big happy family madhouse.

Not sure if a mnnk can manifest itself in a place where all entities can sense and slay them. In fact, I'm not sure whether a shingi is able to. There must be some condition they have to meet before becoming the divine spirit, however, I don't know that for sure. Even if he did, he would probably spit up something that looks like Envy from Full Metal after he gets hit by the mirror.

Yeah. He was suuuuper attached to his first Kusu partner. To an immortal, what is time when it comes to things like grieving? We don't have a choice but to move on, however for him, he can wallow in it for 10, 000 years if he wanted before moving on. The timeline between the death of his first Kusu up until he's partnered with his current Kusu is about a millennia, so it's roughly a couple hundred years he had with each kusu before the sword made the decision to let the kusu go.

See, my headcanon is that the chosen are stuck as exorcists for life up until they are killed. I feel a lot of these kusus died in a previous life before they were chosen by their sword. It's an unfair life. The only exceptions are half mortals. They age incredibly slowly, however, they are allowed to retire if they have survived long enough (pensionable age lol (Jia Ren is an example)).

Anyway, Gu shingi takes his duty seriously. If he was able to at least unsheath the sword slightly to protect his Kusu, he would. But at the end of the day, the sword has the final say.

It's so cute on how jie shingi is protective over his kusu! I wonder if she see's him as her own child? Probably some sort of parental instinct or something else?

i've not explored the Jie pair's relationship much, but it's certainly not a parental thing. My headcanon, or at least for my characters, is that Shingis and their Kusuriuri partners have a deep and special bond, kinda like a soul-tie. That bond stays unless one of them dies (and it's usually the Kusu). Bc of how vulnerable a Kusu is compared to the shingi, sometimes a shingi's attachment can be quite unhealthy to the point of obsession.

I wouldn't say Jie's attachment to her partner is quite like that. Perhaps familial. Like a big sister watching over her excitable little brother.

Now that I'm thinking about it, she's not all that concerned for his safety. Jie k is a sick little weirdo that thrives off the tragic stories of his cases. The guy wouldn't allow himself to get hurt since he would want to know what'll happen next.

i've not delved much into Qiqi yet, but I'll give you five definite facts about him.

He's a chain smoker

He collects keychains (but loses them frequently. He put them on his hideous sword, and they kept falling off). He also has a large sticker, plushie and Zippo lighter collection

He straightens his hair. Under that bandana of his is a lot of super compressed hair that's due for a touch up. (He dyes his hair)

Him and his shingi may be related.

His ofuda are pink with stupid little love hearts on the borders.

I’m so curious about Tai Kusu and Tai Shingi! Do the swords or Inari pick people from all over the world to become wielders? Can Shingis change forms to match their wielders as a way to strengthen their bond?

Oh, also I want to ask is Meng a child or half mortal like the elderly Kusuriuri?

Swords pick the wielders. Inari doesn't have any say in it.

I'm a strong believer in a shingi's appearance morphing from their kusu's beliefs, strengths and maybe even their place of origin depending on how strong their bond is. (But also it was mentioned in a q and a regarding Shingi and his appearance irrc) Or a shingi could just be their own individual self and keep their original appearance. In Tai's case, his existence is of predominantly Irish folklore - he was never born human. Being together for so long, Tai shingi adopted the appearance of what he thinks Tai Kusu may have looked like in his previous life.

Meng is a child. I think I mentioned it in a previous comment that I hc many kusus to have died and reincarnate to be exorcists if they are chosen by one of 64 swords. The little guy has been around for a good 800 years, but he's still very much (and still is) treated like a child even tho he thinks he is an adult.
