Now Playing: is a new series I'll be putting out - Having been inspired by one of my favourite albums of all time: Elephant by The White Stripes. It's a collection of blurbs for Boyd Holbrook characters (from the works that I've seen) with each character having a dedicated song. I strongly welcome any other album suggestions <3 Important note: While not gratuitous, these do mention/allude to sex, so I'm considering it an 18+ work. Also, these aren't super wholesome - so consider that a forewarning!

Steve Murphy // In the Cold, Cold Night

Steve fights your first interactions hard. You’re younger. He knows better. He’s married. You know better. That doesn’t stop his eyes from lingering when you walk by. It doesn’t stop the silent prayers that the voice on the phone will be yours. Temptation burns him so bad even smoke feels cold when it floods his chest. When Connie freezes him out, he can’t stop craving heat. It’s how he justifies the first time. He just needs a little warmth, is all. Some way to feel alive when everything at work is dragging him under. Of course, you can empathize. You work under Messina, too. You know that the horrors of Escobar need distraction, and you’re both very good at distractions. What kills Steve by the end of the second time is that the guilt doesn’t come. Which is exactly why he comes back a third time.

Ty Shaw // Good to Me

Ty Shaw is an appreciative man. He believes in taking care of the things that take care of him. His truck, his boots, and you. The same pickup he’s had since he was a teen stands proud in his driveway, unchanged by the sands of time. It’s nothing fancy like a city boy would have, but those trucks never turned his head anyway. Ty’s cowboy boots are the same. Worn in. Freshly-shined, and always on his feet when he needs them. The soles have been re-soled twice now. Even when you offer to buy him new ones he always declines. New means nothing to him. Not when he’s got ‘perfect’ right here. Which is exactly the same way he feels about you. Day and night, Ty praises the heavens that you landed on his doorstep, and day and night, he lets you know. Sweet, soft, simple. You are good to Ty, and Ty is good to you.

Donald Pierce // You've Got Her in Your Pocket

Donald tells himself he’s an honest lover. He adores you, looking at you as if you hung the moon. While he never sought out a relationship, when he met you, he knew he had no choice. Maybe he tracked you, or had one of the Reavers keep tabs. Nothing bad. Not to him, anyway. Tracking you means he can get you new flowers when they wilt. Or that he knows you turn down men that try to flirt at the bar; and where those men live, too. But sometimes, as he lays awake at night with you laying on his chest, he can’t help but squeeze you that little bit tighter. As the song says, he wants to “keep you in [his] pocket.” Guilt of his behavior consumes him. Every time there’s a fight, he feels it. This time you’ll leave. This time you know. It’s that cycle that justifies it. The lies. The tabs. Whatever he has to do to stay within those rose tinted glasses of yours, he’ll do it.

Mohamed Lundy // I Want to Be The Boy to Warm Your Mother’s Heart

Insecurities plague Mo. They always have. Too big. Too violent. Too inept for his own good. Being with you is one of the only good things he’s got, and he can’t seem to get it right. Everyone in his life tells him what a gem you are. From coming home from work and seeing you putting together furniture in his living room, to watching you pull up on his lunch break with something homemade, Mo praises Allah for providing him with you. Of course, the people in your life don’t feel the same. The first time he meets your parents, it’s as if hell froze over. Neither of them ever look at him, or speak to him directly. He’s sure he overhears one at the end of the night asking why you picked a convict. That doesn’t stop him from trying. The next dinner, he brings flowers. The dinner after that, a nice whiskey. Every time you leave together, hand in hand, he curses himself for never being enough. You squeeze his hand a little tighter, hold him a little closer. It’ll never feel like enough.

Clement Mansell // It's True That We Love One Another

Accurately portrayed by the song, you don’t really know Clement, but from what you do, do you really like him? Your relationship is built off of convenience; a type of ‘come when you call’ that neither of you can quit. You find his charm endearing. Endearing enough to stay in his pants until you remember the rest of his personality. When he’s not with Sandy, Clement can’t help but find your number. It’s scribbled haphazardly in the back of a hotel bible he nicked a few years back. Not once has he felt the need to transfer it to something cleaner. Maybe the call is for money. Maybe a favor. Hell, maybe dope. Though, no matter how many times you tell yourself no, it always ends in sex. Everything always does with Clement. Neither of you are in it for love, but he does seem to make you smile where it counts.

The Corinthian // There's No Home For You Here

Blatant disinterest. Disgust. Disingenuous conversation disguised by his persuasive acting. That little trick of rubbing his lip with his tongue seems to make you blush. It’s obvious that you want him. Thankfully, you clearly want to take The Corinthian home. He’s unsure why he holds out hope that it’ll get easier. Perhaps pure stubbornness is driving his actions; he did pick you out of everyone in the room. A constant hope that something in that little mind of yours will actually excite him. It never does. Not once. Of course, the whole song and dance routine of flirtatious back and forth is a means to an end. To satiate his desires and feel alive, even if only for a second. So sure, he’ll entertain a few moments more. He’s hungry, after all.

Just watched the Free World

I just finished the movie the free world and I went in without any expectations. I didn’t know anything about it and just watched it because of Boyd Holbrook. Even though I had no expectations it somehow exceeded my expectations (I know that doesn’t make any sense, but it’s the only way I can describe how I feel right now). This was absolutely gorgeous. It broke my heart and made me cry. The story line felt predictable but it wasn’t. I’m so happy I decided to give this movie a go, because I will be thinking about it for a while.
