Just Saw A Theory Video That Says...

Not only is Moana a demigod, but she’s... also the daughter of Maui???? The guy did some good research, I mean SOLID research. I’ll buy Moana being a demigoddess, yes. But being related to Maui???? Okay. Her mother’s name IS Sina and Sina, in the original tales, did have several children with Maui... But NONE of them were named Moana! Plus, the fact that I couldn’t even find Moana mentioned in any of the original Polynesian tales so far to my knowledge, means to me that it’s quite possible that she is a character CREATED BY Disney. Which means that Disney may have indeed deviated a little from the original tales. Meaning, what if Disney’s Sina NEVER even met Maui?!

As someone who started this theory venture just to try to find something else that a favorite OTP may have in common, I REALLY hope that Disney deviated enough so that this theory falls through on the last half. I will be weeping if I find out I can’t ship something because I find out that it’s against my rules this late in the game (I’ve already been shipping it for MONTHS now and even have an OC who is their daughter!). I WILL BE SO UPSET. Like... You don’t set the kind of bait in front of me that is their chemistry and allow me to bite it before taking it away... YOU DON’T.

Like,, ppl can ship what they want, right? Im just,,, g onna rant a bit,, about hooked wayfinder,,, just bc i have nowhere else to.

I loved the movie Moana. It was amazing. I loved the relationship between Moana and Maui but it all came off as platonic… and thats amazing. Moana is 14-16. Maui is not only thousands of years old, but he’s also portrayed as a full-grown adult. And idk i just get so d arn uncomfortable with that ship??? And its not bc of anything abt who they are, but the fact of their ages, and how brotherly and sisterly their relationship seemed to be. And like this isnt even a rant moreso me expressing my opinion on how much i dislike that ship. (And i strongly headcanon ace/aro moana but e h) Despite my headcanons, i still find it unsettling. As ive said, Moana is around 14-16 and she is being shipped with not only an immortal, but someone eho is portrayed as a fully grown late 20s- early 30s adult. Its unsettling and makes me uncomfortable.

okay so im probably going to make a long ass post explaining my thoughts later at some point but for right now:

i finally watched moana today, and i get ppl have been excited at the representation and diversity and celebrating that but i need to tell y’all this. that movie isnt good for that. and the whole time i was watching it i was offended and upset and pissed off beyond belief and pretty much near tears in anger by the end of it??

and that devastates me bc i had been so looking forward to a movie that was about me - im a maori new zealand female. so i want you guys to know that speaking as a part of the people the film was about, im fucked off. but i cant be bothered listing the myriad of reasons why tonight. maybe i will tomorrow. for now im upset and tired.
