Y/N was used to the biting cold in her apartment, it had been a long few months with her hours being cut down and bills piling up she was in debt. Badly. She had started cutting costs where possible, heating was the first to go, she had opted for not turning the heating on despite the freezing temperatures outside, food was the second thing to go, she had starting making meals stretch and eating less and slowly things seemed a little more manageable. The bills continued to pile up, yet things seemed a little easier. Every single penny was put to the side to clear her debt. She had been seeing Bucky as much as possible but she couldn’t talk to him about it, he would just offer to pay her debt off and then she’d owe him for almost the rest of her life. She couldn’t ask him. She wouldn’t. Bucky had picked her up from work, it was a surprise, and something Y/N was grateful for as she wouldn’t have to pay for the bus home.
“Do you want to stay at mine tonight?” Bucky asked gently pressing a kiss to her cheek as they finished their heavy make-out session in the car
“I’ve got work in the morning,” She said softly, breath slipping through her lips
“Call in sick” Bucky said between kisses “You can go without one shift can’t you?” Bucky asked
“We’re short staffed Buck, I need to be there” She lied easily,
“Let me come in? I just want to hold you tonight” He said softly pressing another kiss to her lips. Y/N nodded in agreement, how could she ever say no to an offer like that?
Bucky followed Y/N up the stairs to her apartment, she unlocked the door and was met by an icy breeze. Bucky shuddered.
“Why is it so cold baby? Your heating broken?” He asked
“Hmm?” Y/N asked turning around to face him
“Your apartment Y/N, it’s cold”
“Oh, sorry Buck I turned the heating off”
“For good?” Bucky asked closing the door behind him “Or is it broken?” He asked
“Oh, no I just turned it off whilst I was at work” Y/N said softly,
“Why would you do that?” Bucky asked again pulling Y/N into an embrace
“It was just while I went to work Buck”
“That’s not safe doll, you should keep the heating on so you don’t get ill, even when you’re not home. You need to come into a warm house” Bucky said, Y/N resisted the urge to cry.
“I usually do Bucky, it was just a one off” she said.
Bucky didn’t mention the heating again that night. Y/N was grateful for that small mercy. What he did mention was the mountain of blankets that sat on her bed.
“Doll?” He called from her bedroom
“Yeah?” She replied coming into the bedroom, her eyes falling on Bucky’s metal hand clasping three blankets,
“You coming down with something?” He asked “I can call Banner to come and check on you if you want?”
“Oh Buck, no I’m ok. Just get cold when you’re not here” She said, it wasn’t a complete lie, just a small one. It made her feel a little better.
“You know you could just move in with me?” Bucky offered
“Don’t be silly Bucky, we’ve spoken about this” She said and Bucky stopped himself from starting an argument by pressing his lips to hers.

The next few weeks were tricky. Y/N had started picking up more shifts than she could count which lessened her time to do anything; most of all see Bucky.
When one fateful day put Y/N’s life into a tailspin,
“Y/N could you come into my office when you get a moment please?” Her boss’s voice cut through the noise, and Y/N felt a panic run through her body,
“I’ll come now” She said quickly, hurrying behind the shorter lady, “is everything ok?”
“Take a seat Y/N” She said, Y/N knew this wasn’t good, she never asked her to take a seat before, this had got to be bad news.
“Have I done something wrong?”
“No, Y/N you’re one of the best workers we have here” She said taking a deep breath “but we can’t afford to keep you on, with prices and wages going up we’re cutting down to less staff members and well it’s only fair that we let you go first. You’ve got enough experience to get another job quickly whereas the others don’t”
“You mean the others are cheaper because they are younger?” Y/N said noticing the true meaning behind her words.
“That isn’t what we are doing Y/N” her boss spoke halfheartedly
“When do I leave?” Y/N asked dejectedly, knowing it was a loosing battle
“Today’s your last shift, you are let go without holiday pay or leave notice” She said passing Y/N an envelope “All the necessary documents are in here, please hand your keys in at the end of the shift”
“No need to wait” Y/N said, pulling her work keys out her bag and putting them on the desk. Picking up the envelope, Y/N walked out.
The walk home was a cold one, not only because of the biting wind but Y/N felt empty, numb, like she’d just been caught in the rain. She wanted to call Bucky, but after her neglect of him she knew that he was probably mad at her and calling him to cry would not be the best way to go. However, her ringtone cut Y/N’s moping thoughts short,
“Hello?”
“Doll, oh thank god. Steve just told me he passed you on the street, he’s turning around to pick you up so don’t go anywhere. What’s happened?” Bucky asked
“Nothing Buck, I’ll talk to you later, tell Steve not to worry”
“No, he’s picking you up and you can come here or go home then come here, or just head home if that’s what you want but I’d rather Steve did it than you walk yourself doll okay?” He said
“It’s going to happened whatever I say right?” Y/N chuckled halfheartedly, the lack of reply on Bucky’s end confirmed it “I’ll wait for Steve”
“Good girl, I’ll see you soon” He said ending the call quickly.
As if on cue Steve’s car pulled into view,
“Hey Y/N, Buck’s waiting for you” He said opening the door for her,
“Thanks Steve”
After a few quiet minutes Y/N answered the question which was burning in Steve's mind,
“I got fired” She said quietly,
“They did what? Oh Buck won’t be happy, how dare they” Steve said forcefully,
“They can’t afford me apparently” Y/N chuckled sadly
“Bullshit”
“Promise you won’t tell Bucky?” She asked
“I won’t lie to him if he asks” Steve said “But I’ll divert attention so he doesn’t ask” Steve agreed quietly

Y/N had avoided Bucky for another two weeks, she hadn’t meant to. But she had been sending CV’s, babysitting, dog walking and selling small handmade bits online. Anything possible to make some money, she was yet to receive an interview or even any interest. It seemed that everyone was full of employees or was hiring younger staff, there was no place for Y/N.
She had been dodging her landlord phone calls, and the electricity company and even a few others who she knew were angry that she hadn’t paid. Stretching her legs out wide on the floor she took a minute away from her laptop screen and picked up her phone.
“I’m on my way, be there in 15” Bucky had texted around 15 minutes ago, Y/N let out a panicked sigh and started picking up the mess around her to try and make herself look presentable for Bucky, she had to keep up appearances.
“Doll?” Bucky called through her apartment,
“In here” She replied quickly shoving some dirty clothes at the bottom of her wardrobe,
“Hey doll” He said softly pulling her in for a kiss, not seeming to notice her dishevelled state.
“Hey Bucky” she pressed a kiss to his lips, something she had missed dearly.
“I need to talk to you” Bucky said pulling her down to sit on the bed, she sat down with his hands gripped in hers as if he was about to disappear.
“I know I’ve been awful Buck, I haven’t spoken to you and I’ve avoided you, please don’t be mad, I’ve just been so stressed and—”
Bucky quickly cut her off “I’m not breaking up with you Y/N”
“You’re not?”
“No, doll I’m not”
“Oh”
“I know what’s going on Y/N” he said sincerely
“Nothing’s going on”
“Doll I know”
“Bucky nothing is going on”
“You got fired, you’ve been trying to find another job, you’ve been dog walking, which I’m not happy with because that’s dangerous when you don’t know the dog or the owner, and you’ve been selling your adorably little crochet animals online” Bucky said
“You got someone to follow me”
“You started shutting me out” Bucky justified
“Fair enough”
“Did I miss anything?” Bucky asked
“No” Y/N said her eyes welling up with tears, she let go on Bucky’s hand to hide her face in them,
“Oh doll, come here” Bucky said wrapping his arms around her, letting her cry all her stresses and troubles away onto his shirt, he knew once she had cried they would be able to talk through options properly.
“I’m sorry” Y/N said with a sniffle
“Can I finish what I was saying earlier?” Bucky asked, Y/N nodded silently “I’ve paid off all your debts, I did the landlord, electricity, water and that loan you took out, you can pay me back if you want to if you have the money, if not it’s my birthday present to you I know you won’t accept it any other way” He said
“Bucky please”
“It’s already done”
“I should be able to do this better,I should be able to pay my fucking bills”
“No” Bucky said calmly
“No?”
“No you’re not doing that. You are doing as best as you can. And I refuse to listen to that shit. Now put on a nice dress, we’re going out to eat”
— — — —
That night when Bucky and Y/N were laying in bed cuddled up to each other, Y/N decided to be brave
“Bucky?”
“Yes doll?”
“Do you think I could move in with you?” She asked pressing a kiss to his chest “I don’t think I want to do this alone anymore”
Summary: Getting involved with mob!Bucky was always going to end in trouble...
TW: Kidnapping, Angst, Mention of death, Death, guns, taunting, I don’t know what else... please let me know if I missed something :)
Bucky watched the world go by from his seat at the cafe, there wasn’t much he liked more than just letting the world wash over him, he didn’t have many days off but the ones he did he cherished. Most of the cafe staff just ignored him, offering him refills every hour, Bucky had assumed that the owner had told them to.
“Morning girls!” A cheery girl beamed strolling through the door,
“Y/N?!” The worker behind the counter said with a shocked look on her face
“In the flesh” She laughed, throwing her bag under the counter as she strolled behind, Bucky watched simply trying to figure out who this ‘Y/N’ was, he hadn’t seen her before “Hows it been?” She asked opening the till and counting the money inside.
“Not bad, mostly just regulars. Then we’ve got Winter Soldier in the window still”
“Don’t call him that” Y/N snapped, Bucky noted the change in temper in the strange girl,
“Why not everyone does” She scoffed,
“Don’t try your luck” Y/N said bluntly and Bucky finally put the pieces together, this was the owner of the cafe, she was younger than Bucky had anticipated. The cafe being one of the only businesses to have not asked Bucky for money to get them through, Bucky had just assumed it was owned by someone with experience.
“Refill?” The girl asked with a scowl on her face,
“I’m fine thanks” bucky responded bluntly,
“I’m so sorry about that, clearly she’s having a bad day. Can I get you a pastry or a cake as an apology?” Y/N said coming up to Bucky
“It’s ok doll, no apology needed” Bucky replied “Not many people are smiley around me” he chuckled
“Its her job to be smiley, mob boss or not” Y/N said bluntly, “You sure about that cake?”
“You’re not scared” Bucky said with a confused smile
“Scared of what?” Y/N replied
“Interacting with me”
“Oh” Y/N let out a laugh, “No offence but you’re sitting in a cake shop, on a pink plush chair. You don’t look very scary”Bucky was taken aback, nobody not even Steve was brave enough to speak to him like that, She turned picking up his empty mug “Last offer on that cake”
“Go on then”
“What flavour?”
“Surprise me”
— — — —
Bucky had made it into his routine, he’d do his morning ‘business’ then pass by the cake shop on the way back. He’d realised that Y/N worked most weekdays and that was why he hadn’t met her before, he’d only gone in on Sunday’s.
“Morning doll” He said strolling into the empty shop
“I’m going to have to start charging you rent” Y/N commented as she began to make his coffee.
“I could afford it” bucky smirked, placing a few big notes in the tip jar,
“Buck I’ve told you not to do that”
“And I’ve told you I want to” He said taking the cup with a smile. They had been arguing about it for weeks now, but Bucky loved it. There was something different in the air today, something Bucky couldn’t put his finger on, but he knew in his line of work not to ignore it.
“You ok today?” He asked trying to get answered directly,
“Fine” Y/N smiled turning her back to Bucky, who decided it was all in his head and turned to walk out the cafe “Bucky?” Y/N said gently, just before he reached the door
“Yes doll?” He said turning around instantly and swiftly making his way up to her,
“If someone was following you, how would you know?” She asked, Bucky studied her intently. There was something behind her eyes, something that scared even him.
“Who’s following you?” Bucky asked firmly
“Oh no, it’s just for a friend” Y/N brushed it off simply
“Doll you need to tell me”
“It’s nothing” She said with a fake smile “I promise”
— — — —
Weeks went by without another strange comment, Bucky didn’t like to worry but the conversation had unsettled him. He often sent his men past the shop just in case, but nothing ever seemed off.
“Morning doll” Bucky said opening the door, ready to great Y/N with an award winning smile
“Not my name” Another waitress said
“Where’s Y/N?” Bucky asked
“Sent a message last night asking me to cover all shifts for the next two weeks.” She said bluntly “Because clearly my time off is worth nothing” she huffed “What do you want?”
“No notice?” Bucky asked remembering back to a time where Y/N said she liked to give at least two weeks for extra shifts
“Look I don’t get paid enough for this conversation. Do you want a coffee or not?” She said
“Not” Bucky snapped, his brain running a mile a minute as he climbed into his car. He drove down the streets he had a few times, he knew where Y/N’s apartment was. Not that he had ever been in there, but he had made it his business to know. The moment he got there he called the one person who could help him keep a level head.
“Steve, I need you to come to Y/N’s apartment now” He said, putting the phone down before he let Steve respond.
Within a few minutes both Steve and Bucky were standing outside Y/N’s front door,
“You sure about this?” Steve asked
“Not at all” Bucky said pushing the door gently, it swung open
“She didn’t lock it?” Steve commented
“Told you something was wrong” Bucky said bluntly. He made his way through the apartment, stopping at the broken coffee table and the smashed glass on the floor.
“You shouldn’t be in here” A voice broke Bucky out his trance, he turned to find a short elderly man, standing at Y/N’s front door “Are you friends of Y/N’s” He asked
“What happened to her”
“Three men, last night, they took her kicking and screaming. Shoved her in a car and left”
“Why didn’t you call someone?” Steve said bluntly
“This neighbourhood, you don’t tell anyone” He said “You’re Barnes aren’t you?” He asked
“Yeah” Bucky nodded
“I know what you are” He said “I don’t have money, but Y/N said you were a good one at heart. Find her and don’t let her get hurt” The man said before disappearing back into his own apartment.
Bucky stood for a moment the hairs on his arms standing up, feeling out of control wasn’t something he was used to and it certainly wasn’t something he liked. Steve picked up on the feeling throughout the room.
“Go on then Buck, what’s the plan?” Steve asked trying to get his mind back on track,
“No idea” He admitted with a shake of his head.
“She means something to you?” Steve said, knowing Bucky had mentioned Y/N a few times before, he’d even ordered Sam to find out every single detail of her life.
“She shouldn’t” Bucky said with a shake of his head
“But she does” Steve said filling in the silence
“It’s my fault she’s gone, I got too close. Thought I was untouchable for a moment”
— —- — —
Damp was all Y/N could smell, it invaded her nostrils as she pulled against the binds keeping her sat on a cool chair. The blindfold which covered her eyes gave no secrets away, not even a slither of light was let through. Whoever had taken her knew what they were doing, she hadn’t even seen their faces before she was grabbed, couldn’t even put up a fight.
“He’ll come” She heard a gruff voice state, she couldn’t figure out where the voice was coming from, it echoed and bounced off the walls
“Who’s there?” She called out, trying her best to keep her voice firm, all that responded was a rough laugh. “You can’t keep me like this forever” She shouted furiously
“Not forever sweetheart, just long enough to bring your Romeo Barnes out of the shadows” The voice said suddenly inches away from her face, she could feel the hot breath on her cheek, she felt something pull on her hair and then heard a chopping sound.
“What the hell are you doing to me?” She growled
— — — —
“Barnes, you need to see this” Peter said stepping into his office, not bothering to knock knowing Bucky would only be mad at his time-wasting when they still had no leads on Y/N.
“What is it?” Bucky snapped
“Got delivered just now, nobody on the doorstep, nobody around. No-one saw anything. But it’s addressed to you” He said, Bucky felt the dread fill his stomach he knew what it was about.
Ripping open the envelope he let out a strained shout as a clump of Y/N’s hair fell out, tied neatly together with one of the ribbons she had worn a few days before she disappeared. Following the hair fell a small note.
EYE FOR AN EYE BARNES.
“Buck?” Steve said gently,
“He’s got her”
“Who?”
“Walker” Bucky spat furiously
“Why?” Sam asked
“He must still think I was the one who made his wife leave” Bucky said
“She ran off with another man” Steve said confused
“I was the one who introduced them, he thought it was calculated” Bucky explained,
“That’s why he left?” Sam asked
“I didn’t want to put words in his mouth that’s why I didn’t say anything but” Bucky stopped himself, his fingers wrapping around his gun “He doesn’t get to have Y/N”
— — — — —
Y/N could hear the commotion, something was happening. Shifting in her seat she tried to loosen the rope that she was sure was cutting into her wrists. It didn’t dare budge.
“That won’t work sweetheart” The voice returned
“Just leave me alone” she cried, the echo in the room beginning to settle around her skull, nothing felt normal anymore. All she wanted to do was collapse into a deep sleep, her body screamed for movement,
“No can do” The voice taunted “See your little boyfriend is coming here right now and I’m about to kill him” It laughed
“He isn’t my boyfriend” Y/N spat furiously “He’ll kill you before you can blink” She added
“Let’s see darling” It sneered,
“Y/N?” Bucky’s voice called, yet another echo.
“Now darling I want you to watch this” the voice said suddenly tugging at the blindfold roughly leaving it around Y/N’s neck and letting her eyes adjust to the room, just as Bucky burst through the doors.
“I’m going to kill you” Bucky growled, the look in his eye terrified Y/N, it was a side she hadn’t seen before and one she knew she didn’t want to see again
“Nuh uh uh” Walker grinned “See Barnes, this isn’t about you killing me, this is all a mind game” He said sadistically “You can kill me, but then your pretty little Y/N has seen that and you won’t ever get her back. She’ll be gone forever” He let out a laugh, Bucky’s eyes fell on Y/N’s fear filled face,
“Y/N” He said softly, Y/N let out a sob.
“Buck please get me out of here” She cried suddenly terrified that these were her last moments
“Y/N I have to kill him” Bucky said gently
“She’ll never look at you again” Walker taunted
“Don’t look” He said firmly to Y/N, who looked at him like a deer in headlights
“Buck—”
“I won’t do it if you’re looking” Bucky said firmly, Y/N couldn’t look away. If she did she gave permission for Bucky to kill someone, she couldn’t do that
“She won’t ever love you Barnes” Walker sneered
“Buck!” Steve shouted walking into the room,
“Make your choice Barnes” Walker said
“Y/N” Bucky said his eyes focused on Y/N,
A shot sounded through the room, as Walker collapsed dead next to Y/N. Y/N screamed, Bucky turned to see Sam standing behind him, his gun still pointed at the body.
“I wasn’t about to let him do that to you” Sam said firmly, “I don’t play mind games”
“Thank you” Bucky muttered as he ran over to Y/N, helping Steve pull the ropes off of her shaking body, “You’re safe now, I’m not going to let anything else happen to you” Bucky promised
“He’s dead?” Was all Y/N could reply
“Don’t look” Bucky instructed shielding Y/N from the body, “You’re okay now” He said pulling her into his chest
“I thought I was going to die” She admitted,
“Never doll, not when you’re with me” Bucky said pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Summary: Part 2 to ‘He’s got her’, Y/N tries to get her life back on track, but that doesn’t involve Bucky.

Part One

Weeks had gone by since the incident, Bucky hadn’t dared speak about it to Y/N for fear of her brave face slipping when he wasn’t around to comfort her. He tried as hard as he could to keep close to Y/N, or at least as much as she’d let him, but she was cold and distant and extremely frustrating. He had to remind himself that she was dealing with trauma but a part of him was still fuming at her distance. It had been two weeks since he had even seen her,
“How can I—” The waitress behind the counter said, stopping herself the moment she saw Bucky “She’s not in” She said
“Come on,” Bucky huffed
“She’s not in” She repeated
“it’s been two weeks and she hasn’t had a single shift?” Bucky said in disbelief,
“Nope” She shook her head firmly, not daring to let any single details of Y/N’s whereabouts slip
“I know you’re lying, she’s been in here” Bucky said firmly
“Well she’s not here now” She snapped
“Tell me where she is,” Bucky said
“Nope” She said turning back to the coffee machine, and her back to Bucky
“That isn’t fair, I need to know where she is”
“She’s not your concern, you were the one who put her in danger and she’s paying the price. I don’t blame her for not wanting anything to do with you” She snapped
“I need to know she’s ok, it’s been weeks” Bucky practically begged
“She’s fine, her friends are looking after her” The waitress snapped “She doesn’t need any help from someone like you”, had any other person spoken to Bucky that way he would have happily shot them where they stood, but he knew that would only cause himself more problems. With a curt nod he turned and left the cafe. His ego bruised.
— — — —
“How’s this week been Y/N?” The therapist asked, Y/N searched her mind for some way to describe the way she’d been feeling
“Fine I guess” Was all that she could manage, the beige sofa begging to swallow her whole was all to appealing to her right now
“The truth now?"
“Horrible, I’m not sleeping and every time I close my eyes I see him”
“Who? Barnes?”
“Huh?”
“Who do you see when you close your eyes, is it Barnes?”
“No, Walker” She paused “Well Walker’s body at least” His name felt strange in her mouth, she’d whispered it more since he was dead than she had ever when he was alive.
“And what about Barnes?” The questions sat heavily in the room
“What about him?”
“Have you seen him?”
“No”
“Do you want to see him?”
“No”
“Do you think about him a lot?”
“No”
“Y/N, we won’t get anywhere if you aren’t honest”
“I don’t need to talk about Barnes, I’m not interested in talking about him or thinking about him or anything” She snapped harshly
“Y/N, perhaps talking to him may help. The things you have gone through are things that he sees often, it may help a little to come to terms with the trauma you’ve faced” The suggestion made Y/N’s blood boil
“He’s been here hasn’t he?” Y/N snapped
“Y/N” She started
“He’s been here?”
“He came in earlier”
“I’m sorry, but I’m done” Y/N stood, picking up her handbag and heading towards the door
“Y/N, he wants the best for you”
“Is that your professional opinion?” She said, not giving her a second to answer before she was out the door.
— — — —
Y/N knew where Bucky would be, he spent most of his days at his own club doing whatever ‘business’ called that day. He had shown her after the attack incase she couldn’t get hold of him on the phone. Taking a deep breath she pushed open the door and took a simple step inside.
“Can I help you?” A man spoke, he sat at the table closest to the door a lit cigarette in his hand and his other hand wrapped around a glass,
“I’m looking for Barnes” Y/N spoke firmly, stopping her voice from wavering
“Pretty thing like you? He know you’re coming?” He asked
“He knows” Y/N lied,
“Y/N?” Bucky’s voice filled the room, “I uh saw you from my office, are you ok?” He asked rushing over to her
“You crossed a line” She said cooly
“I needed to see you” He said
“You knew I’d come here to tell you to stop” Y/N said, frustrated at how well Bucky knew her already
“I hoped you would, but you’ve proved me wrong before” He said with a friendly smile, it was an olive branch “Come up to my office, we can talk?” He asked
“Ok” Y/N wasn’t sure what came over her but something told her to agree.
Bucky led her up to his office which looked over the club, he sat down at one side of the sofa and gestured for Y/N to sit down which she did but much further away than Bucky had wanted.
“How have you been?” He asked
“I’m here” Y/N replied simply
“I’ve been worried”
“I could tell” Y/N folded her arms over her chest
“Please Y/N, I didn’t want to go to you therapist or the cafe or anything but I called by your apartment first and it was empty and I got worried, I couldn’t find you” Bucky said
“I gave it up” She said “Couldn’t sleep there”
“You should have called me” Bucky said firmly, the kind of firm that made Y/N’s skin chill,
“I didn’t want to” She replied
“I get it, really I do” Bucky said “But when you go through something like that it isn’t something I can just let go. I need to know you’re ok”
“You need to know I’m not going to go to the police you mean” Y/N snapped,
“I don’t care about that, I wanted to know if you were ok” He said, his tone was gentle. Something Y/N couldn’t wrap her head around, it wasn’t the same Bucky she had seen
“I’m fine” She answered curtly
“I know you’re not” Bucky replied
“You’re not my therapist”
“I don’t want to be” Bucky tried to reason with her. “I want to be your friend”
“Bucky you can’t say that” She said tucking her legs into her body, trying to make herself as small as possible
“It’s true, doll” he said picking up her hand in his
“I can’t be Bucky, not after everything” She said
“Because of what you saw you mean?”
“No… Yes… I don’t know, everything happened too quickly I still don’t know what I saw” She said “Or how it made me feel, or anything. I just can’t Bucky”
“Let me help, please. I’ve been where you are. It’s terrifying. But I can help” He promised
“I don’t think you can”
“Nightmares, they’re the first thing to control, once that’s sorted everything else gets easier” He said “Now the way I solved mine was staying up for hours until I was too tired to do anything but sleep, but that wasn’t healthy so how about getting you somewhere safe first. A hotel room maybe? They’re safe” He proposed
“Bucky—”
“Next step is to relax yourself, light candles, put on a movie and just relax. Then you sleep, but you can’t force it. If you do it makes everything worse” Bucky said squeezing Y/N’s hand
“Bucky stop it” She said
“It’ll help, I promise”
“I can’t”
“Why not?”
“I can’t sleep alone, I’ve been staying with friends, but the moment they leave I get scared and I can’t Bucky. Please don’t make me sleep alone again” She said the gates suddenly opening and letting out the tears she had been holding in. Bucky pulled her towards his chest, not daring to speak a single word.
TW: fight, mentions of abusive ex, allusions to death, Bucky being protective
Summary: Y/N ex seems to have more of a hold on Y/N than Bucky realised
Bucky knew something was up the moment he walked through the door, Y/N was curled up on the large leather sofa with a blanket wrapped tightly around her and her head in her hands. She clearly hadn’t heard the door, Bucky knew she wouldn’t ever let him see her like this unless it was an accident.
“Doll” This whispered barely loud enough to be heard through the living room, but her head snapped up and she quickly wiped away the stray tears which lingered on her cheeks.
“Bucky, I had no idea you were going to be home so early” She said pushing the blanket off of her and hurrying into the kitchen “I had planned to make dinner for when you got home but I can make it now?” She suggested
“Doll you don’t have to cook for me, you know that” He said concerned, Y/N hadn’t acted like this since they started dating. It had taken Bucky a while to break the habits old boyfriends had left.
“I just wanted to surprise you” She said with a nervous chuckle, which Bucky picked up on instantly. He slowly snaked his arms around her waist and pulled her gently away from the oven, “Buck what are you doing?”
“Come sit with me” He said pulling Y/N onto his lap at one of the kitchen chairs
“Bucky please stop it” She said pushing away from him as he started to lay gentle kisses on her neck
“Doll you ok?” He asked, his concern slowly growing with each minute, his arms still wrapped around her middle
“Buck please let go” She said, which he did immediately. Y/N stood and made her way back to the oven,
“Y/N please, I don’t want you to cook dinner” He said,
“Why not?” She asked, Bucky’s concern clouded the ferocity in her words
“Y/N”
“No Bucky, why don’t you want me to cook? Do you think I can’t handle it? Do you not like my cooking? What is it Bucky?” She said turning around ready for a fight
“Doll” He said gently taking a step closer to her, taking his larger hands and wrapping them around hers
“Buck let go”
“Not until you tell me what’s wrong”
“Let go!”
“Why won’t you talk to me?” Bucky asked gently moving one of his hands to cup her face
“Get off of me!” She roared ripping her hands away from Bucky and running upstairs, leaving Bucky dumfounded in the kitchen. Unsure what to do, he turned to the only person who knew Y/N better than he did.
“Wanda, I uh well I need your help” Bucky said
“What’s up? You must’ve done something bad for you to be calling me this late” She said with a yawn through the phone
“I think me and Y/N just had a fight”
“You think?”
“Yeah well it just kinda happened and I need you’re help”
“This isn’t about her ex is it?” Wanda asked quietly
“What about her ex?” Bucky asked his blood beginning to boil
“He was messaging her today when we went out of coffee, she never showed me the messages but she hasn’t heard from him in a few years”
“Shit” Bucky whispered
“Bucky Barnes what did you do?” Wanda began to scold him
“I’ll talk to you tomorrow Wanda, I just have to see Y/N” He said, not bothering to wait for a reply he slammed his phone down and ran upstairs.

“Doll?” He whispered pushing their bedroom door ajar, and slipping his head through the gap, once he didn’t hear a reply he slowly stepped into the room
“Go away” She murmured, her voice was muffled by the pillow
“Baby I’m not going anywhere” He whispered “Do you want to talk about what just happened?”
“I’m sorry” She said her voice breaking
“You don’t have to apologise, I just want to understand”
“Alex messaged me today” She admitted “I don’t even know why I replied I just did and then he was the same as he always is and I just” She stopped herself as she broke into another fit of sobs, Bucky wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer to his chest
“What did he say?”
“He was asking about you and how we were and then he said that you” She cut herself off
“That I what?” Bucky asked trying his hardest not to jump up and kill Alex where he stood
“That you wouldn’t love me if I wasn’t a good girlfriend”
“Baby you know I love you no matter what” Bucky promised her
“He got in my head and then you were home and I hadn’t even started food and I know you’re probably starving by now”
“Doll, breath, just breath for a minute” He said noticing the way her heartbeat began speeding up
“I’m sorry Buck” She said burying herself further into his chest
“Close your eyes doll, get some rest. I’ll be right here” he promised.
Within minutes Y/N was fast asleep on Bucky’s chest, snoring slightly. Without daring to move Y/N Bucky dialled Steve’s number on his phone,
“Whats up boss?” He said
“You know Y/N’s ex?” Bucky said
“Yeah” Steve answered warily
“Deal with him, but not fully. I want that pleasure” he growled
“Understood boss”
Bucky placed his phone on silent and turned back to his girl, nobody would ever make her feel like that again.
Synopsis: mob!Bucky has to reassure Y/N that everything he said was true
TW: just a lot of fluff, a few mentions of fainting and being ill (think that’s it :) )
Enjoy xxx
It had been a few days since Y/N had fainted and Bucky had been nothing but attentive, he had refused to leave her side for the majority of the days, only ever leaving to get Y/N more water or food. Y/N hadn’t left her bed, Bucky hadn’t allowed it. Each morning she’d wake with a fresh cup of tea on her bedside table with a large glass of water and a small handwritten note.
DRINK UP MY LOVE :)
“Buck?” She called reaching out around the bed to find his side empty, pushing herself up on her elbows she looked around the room to find it empty. “Buck?” She called again a little louder this time, he had been there each morning when she had woken up since she had fainted, and suddenly waking up alone made her stomach turn. Swinging her legs carefully over the side of the bed she stood on wobbly feet and shuffled out of the bedroom in search of Bucky, she could hear his voice as she made her way down the carpeted stairs.
“Buck?” She called again, as she began to feel a little lightheaded. But his voice didn’t stop and by the time she’d met the bottom of the stairs she could hear more than one voice in their kitchen.
She stepped into the kitchen to find Bucky sitting at their dining table with a man she hadn’t seen before,
“Buck” She whispered, his head immediately snapping around at the sound of her,
“Doll, I didn’t hear you get up! What are you doing out of bed?” He asked hurriedly rushing over to her and wrapping an arm around her waist encouraging her to lean her weight on him.
“Didn’t know where you were” She admitted quietly, unsure of the man who was watching their whole conversation with hawk like vision,
“Sorry, that’s my fault. I’ve been distracting him” The man chuckled lightly taking a sip of his coffee
“Doll, this is Tony Stark. He was the man from the other day” Bucky explained, Y/N felt her stomach drop at the sound of his name
“I’m so sorry for interrupting you” She said dropping her gaze to the floor in front of herself
“I hope you put Barnes through hell for ignoring you” He smirked, Y/N instantly felt more comfortable at his sarcastic comment
“Are you discussing the deal? I can go back upstairs” She asked looking up at Bucky
“I just came to deliver you a small gift basket, my wife filled it with everything you might need” Stark explained
“It’s by the front door, I can bring it up to you in a minute?” Bucky suggested
“Will you thank her for me?” Y/N said to Tony Stark with a kind smile as she pressed herself further into Bucky “I’m going to go back to bed” She said with a small wave to Tony
“You feeling okay?” Bucky asked as she pulled herself away from him
“Just tired, will you come back up in a bit?” She asked
“Of course, I won’t be long” Bucky promised.
By the time Bucky returned to their bedroom Y/N had settled herself back in bed surrounded by a mountain of blankets all wrapped around her as she lightly snored. Bucky let a small genuine smile grace his lips for a moment as he stood watching her for a minute, she stirred and opened her eyes to find Bucky standing over her
“You watching me sleep?” She laughed tiredly
“Can’t help it, you’re just too pretty” He admitted climbing into bed next to her,
“You’re a flirt” She laughed wrapping an arm around his middle
“Have to keep my girl happy” He said, the moment the words left his lips he felt Y/N tense up, a bubble of anxiety began to build in his throat “Y/N, you ok?” He asked
“Yeah” She stammered out,
“Doll, talk to me”
“Am I still your girl?” She asked, Bucky’s heart dropped at her question “ I mean I know we haven’t really spoken about the argument but do you still want me to be your girl?” She continued
“Y/N, baby” He said sitting up and forcing Y/N to look into his heartbroken eyes, “You are my girl, always. No matter if we argue you will always be my girl. I don’t want anyone else, I thought I had explained that when you woke up” he said his mind running a mile a minute
“I know you said you loved me, but you were so angry, and I just keep thinking whether you want to get rid of me” She admitted picking at the skin on her fingers
“I meant it when I said I love you, I have loved you since I saw you and I never want to see you anywhere but by my side” Bucky whispered, picking up her hands gently,
“Did you really meant it when you said you’re going to take some time off?” She asked “I know Stark was here earlier and if you’re not going to it’s fine, I understand but I just—” she rambled
“I meant what I said, my priority is getting back to where we were. No business, no nothing until we’re in a better place. I explained that to Stark today doll”
“You did that for me?” She asked in disbelief, she hadn’t ever really believed that Bucky would take time off officially “Was Stark mad?” She added
“Of course I did that for you, I’d do anything for you” Bucky said “He wasn’t pleased, but he’s agreed to go forward with our deal the moment I choose to go back to work. However long it takes”
“I don’t want you to take time off if you feel like you have to” She said her mind throwing herself into overthinking mode
“I want to,” Bucky assured her, “Listen to me Y/N, you’re it for me. I will spend every day proving to you just how much I’m in love with you” Y/N let a small timid smile tug at her lips, Bucky felt his anxiety disappear at the sight “When you fainted my world stopped, I realised in that moment that I don’t want anything if I don’t have you. All the money I’ve made doesn’t mean anything if I don’t have you by my side doll” Bucky took in a deep breath “I love you” He promised
“I love you Buck” She whispered, Bucky felt as though his heart could break there and then from the four words he had been dying to hear,
