A checklist for defining your mobile application architecture
Most of the mobile development done is agile in nature and they start of without having any detail architecture strategies in mind. Provided with so many different technologies today and the speed at which the mobile world is evolving it is very important to decide beforehand few things and then go on with the development process.
So here today we have a basic checklist for you that can help you in defining and refining the requirements.
1. Which platform?
Here the debate is all about Android or iOS, though you have other options like Windows and Blackberry too, but the mentioned two take the lead when it comes to app development and have a major share of the market. Deciding on a platform before can help you in selection your technology, tools and design regarding the application.
2. Version of platform
The platform you choose whether Android or iOS is not the end of the story. You also have to consider the version too, your app may use features which may be specific to a version and absent in others. If this is the case, mention this in the marketing materials so users don't get frustrated in the end.
3. Resolution
Since smartphones are available in such different varieties you should give a lot of thought on the screen resolutions too. Make sure your app looks and works fine on the standard and most common resolution available in the market. You can also utilize stats from Google which can tell you how much dense a particular screen resolution is in utilization.
4. Orientation
There are some games which work great only in portrait mode and some only in landscape and then there are others that go fine on both modes. Test your application and see if there are any issues regarding the orientation and fix them.
5. Test the distractions
There are many distractions which can interrupt the execution of the application and you should handle them accordingly. Some of them are text messages, calls, low battery, and notifications from other apps and push messages etc.
6. Security
Privacy of the data and security are very important in the digital world. Most of the users get worried about the identity and sensitive information. Have you ensure and strong and safe payment method in your app if required? Are you following secure protocols of network? What about security certificates? Ask all these questions from yourself and make sure you provide the maximum level of security to your users.
7. Hardware requirements
Are there any specific hardware requirements your application will use, like camera, more memory etc.? Make sure the device supports everything in your app. If your app uses the hardware features then your test cases should cover them thoroughly too. It could be accelerometer, GPS functionality, any other sensors and external hardware keys like camera or volume etc.
