He was tired. That’s what he was. Tired and sore and bitter and angry and hungry and trying really hard to think about anything other than the fact that if it wasn’t for him, Tess would be alive and well back in Boston. As much as anyone was ever alive and well anywhere in this pitiful state of day and age. He’d settled for filling the silence with conversation - which was as much evidence of his sour thoughts as anything. Not that she’d know that.

“Yeah?” She didn’t strike him as the type that would be making friends overly easy. She was angry and bitter too, he just. Didn’t know why. Didn’t care why either. “I’m guessing that worked out according to plan, then?” A flick of his gaze to check the sky and horizon, gauging how much walking time was left before they’d have to stop to set up camp. “Your muckity muck firefly folks, they’re just fine with you ending up in a FEDRA school to start with?”
