Beer Nights with Thomas
And the very next day was a party to celebrate my graduation. I thought I'd be nice and put some of my precious craft beers in the cooler for others to have. Dad had his MGD and I put the Sierra Nevada Stout, Anchor Bock, and Rogue Mocha Porter in there.
I guess I was hoping I could have my cousins approve of my beer tastes. You know, because my ego needs some inflating now and then.
Anyway, the party begins and after a while I take one of the porters. I don't see many people partaking, but one of my cousin-in-laws was enjoying what I had. He pointed out that in the ingredients for Rogue beers, they say that their beers are made with "Free range coastal water". A small Easter Egg of humor for all of you who frequent Rogue beers.
Later, I saw him pull one of the bocks and I asked him to tell me what he thought. Once he started drinking it he looked my way and made a bit of a face. He said "I dunno. It's got a bit of a twang to it." Which is such a good way of putting it. There's something about that bock that is a little off-putting. It's still drinkable, but not something I'd pay for again. I was so happy to have that little bit of validation. Rogue = good. Anchor Bock = strange/eh.
I didn't try anything new that time. Rather, I was out to reinforce my first impressions. I liked the porter just as much the second time. I also had the same experience when I had one of the stouts. I'll have to finish off the rest of those bocks eventually. Be expecting my second opinion on the matter fairly soon. Those need to be the first to go.
