This is all backlogged stuff I never posted up yet...Sorry, it's been a few months!
Anyway, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! 2012! The world is not going to end so don't worry! LOL
Murphy's Dry Stout is in the same category as Guinness. I like how you get a 16oz pint worth of beer in their draught can compared to the Guinness, which only has 14.9oz. That being said, I like Guinness better than Murphy's. Now I just have to try Beamish.
Who doesn't like a Guinness? The most name famous Irish Stout out there. Sure, it's mass produced and maybe overrated. Also people think it's a heavy beer because of its dark color, even though it has pretty low carbs and calories and near similar alcohol content compared to other common beers like Bud, Coors, Corona, Heineken, etc. However, it's not that bad of a beer imo. I like drinking it and it goes down pretty easily and satisfies me. Also like the "proper pint pour" of it, even though it might not actually have any real effect besides marketing.
Went to Virginia for Labor Day Weekend. Didn't have much time in the store so I just chose 9 random ones that caught my eye. If I had more I'd look for more VA specific ones. Ended up with some from PA, some from VA, one from DE and one from MA. Should have just took 3 more randomly to make it 12. Anyway...I have everything from before backed up and ready, just didn't upload them.
Went to Maine over the weekend with my parents and girlfriend. It was primarily one of those sightseeing bus tour trips. On the way home we stopped by this road side stop and I decided to buy several bottles of different Maine beer to try out, as well as a steak and cheese sandwich. Opinion review posts coming up soon!
My cousin, girlfriend, and friends at Bohemian Hall Beer Garden in Astoria celebrating my 23rd birthday! My birthday was 2 weeks ago, but I wanted to go when they were all able to get off from work so I could see them all! I'm holding up the camera and my beer. I was drinking Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse.
Grupo Modelo S.A. de C. - Corona Light
Luckily wasn't skunked being in that clear bottle. Looks like piss, but it's really refreshing when it's super cold. Of course I would never drink beers like this any warmer than super duper cold because that would be torture. It's basically grain/corn tasting water with alcohol and a lot of carbonation. I was at a Father's Day BBQ - If the dads like it then good for them, it's their day. I wasn't paying for it at least.
rifugium from beeradvocate - "My theory on how Corona is made...many agree with me: 10000 Mexicans each drink a bottle of cheap tequila and then pee into a large vat. Then the contents of the vat are bottled up and shipped to your local dive bar!"
Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA
I like drinking this more than the 90 Minute IPA since it isn't as hoppy. Considering my finances right now, getting 6 instead of 4 also helps! Floral, citric, piney. Hoppy enough, but not too much for those trying it for the first time. Pleasant bitterness at the beginning and ends clean. It's very crisp and refreshing, balanced, medium bodied, smooth and very drinkable.
Coors Brewing Company Coors Light
Super light watery grain and corn, taste and feel. Pale yellow, piss looking. A cheap beer but probably the one I like best out of all those mass produced light American beers. The marketing gimmick of cold and super cold is pretty fun. I would never drink this beer any warmer than super cold cause then you'll notice how shitty this beer is. At least when it's super cold, it goes down really easy and is really refreshing. Good for beer pong and chilling at parties.
San Miguel Corp. Red Horse Beer
Had this beer at the PIDC after party. Since it was the Filipino Parade, they served some beers from the Philippines. Besides this one, the only other Fiilipino beer I've had was the regular San Miguel (couple years ago).
To me it was very unimpressive. Didn't really make any impression on me other than it was easy to drink. Even at 7% ABV there was hardly any alcohol taste. Light body, watery grain, slight metallic taste, corn/grain, is what I got from it. I guess it's a step up from Coors and Bud, but I'd rather stick with those two instead of this. Sorry, even if it's from the Philippines, it's just not that good to me.
Brooklyn Brewery x Shake Shack Shackmeister Ale
"Shackmeister is a 12 Plato pale ale brewed from English malts and dry-hopped with Glacier. I formulated it specifically to complement Shake Shack's food..." - Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn Brewery, 8/30/08
I got this today after the PIDC at Shake Shack near Madison Square Park. There was such a long line to order. After 45 minutes, I finally sat down to eat with my girlfriend.
Decided I wanted to try this beer out. My first thought was...ehh. I wasn't really impressed and I didn't think this beer was good at all. Of course this is my opinion. I'm sure it has its fans, but I just didn't like it. It's light, watery, and easy to drink at least. However, the taste was just off to me. It tasted so empty and mineralic. There's some lemon zest-citrus taste, even a little hint of something that reminded me of Brooklyn Lager. Just didn't like it, probably won't get it again.
Even though I didn't like this beer, my double Shackburger was great and the handspun black and white shake was also delicious. I'm definitely a fan of Shake Shack, just not their beer.
Q: "Liquor before beer; have no fear. Beer before liquor-never sicker!" Is that sound advice, or does it just rhyme? A: I think it just rhymes. People also say that you shouldn't drink liquor, wine and beer in the same sitting. They think it will make you ill. Of course when you ask them what they consumed, it turns out that they had eight drinks. Well, that's the problem, now isn't it?
Garrett Oliver, Brooklyn Brewmaster
Sorry for the inactivity lately. No beer!
Also note - I am turning 23 in a couple of weeks, which means there should be a large influx of new beers reviewed.
Drink responsibly!
Shake Shack
Had some Shake Shack today with my girlfriend after going to Fleet Week at the Intrepid. I should try that Shackmeister Ale sometime. It's by Brooklyn Brewery and is only available at Shake Shacks, including the one at Citi Field. However, it's more expensive there because it's sold during Mets games. The Filipino Independence Day Parade is going to be happening next weekend and there's a Shake Shack right next to where the street festival is going to be held. I think I'll get one then.
Anheuser-Busch Bud Light Girlfriend's dad gave me some to drink because I was in the mood for a beer. Light and refreshing and liquid bread. It is what it is. Just need a light refreshing beverage sometimes that isn't a soda. This is my second choice, Coors Light is my first.
Miller Brewing Company/MillerCoors Miller Lite
What can I say? lol Watery bread. Crisp, refreshing, easy to drink. Would rather have a Bud or Coors. Don't really like any of the "light" variations of the mass American beers.
