We all know fake news is dangerous especially in a third world country like ours where the general masses don’t have access to quality education (this is where critical thinking is developed).

Mocha Uson was a “sexy star” and a die hard supporter of Rodrigo Duterte (we call this group of people “ka-DDS) and was appointed Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary. Now regardless of this lady’s former job, her being in this position proved to be dangerous in a way that she is spreading hate and fake news in favor of the president.

She would share unverified news, would act unethically towards the oppositon, and sometimes would go to the extent of CREATING fake news on social media.

Let’s have discussions on this one, fellow Pinoy out there.

Mocha Uson Blog back on Facebook after suspension for sharing post against Vico Sotto

The Facebook page of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration deputy administrator Mocha Uson is back on Facebook. The page, to note, was suspended after many social media users reported it for sharing a negative comment against Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.

Birds of the Same Feather, Revise History and Culture Together

       We know that there have been numerous Filipinas who contributed to the liberation and independence in the country. The names Melchora Aquino and Gabriela Silang were some of the Filipinas who helped and fought with other Filipino heroes to make significant progress in the country. Just like birds, they soared high with their ambitions for freedom and fought with others to protect their lands.

        Melchora Aquino, also known as, Tandang Sora, catered to the Katipuneros by treating their wounds and providing them food during the Spanish colonization. On the other hand, Gabriela Silang took on her husband’s (Diego Silang’s) role of being the commander of rebel troops and led guerilla attacks against Spanish soldiers during their attempt to free Ilocos from the Spaniards. Despite both Filipinas’ unsuccessful attempts in revolution, they were still recognized for their strength and bravery to help free our country from the, then, colonizers. They took on the role of being heroines who stood up and accepted the challenge that contributed to change in the country. The only difference they have from the women on our list is that... well... many.

The birds that wanted to soar

         In this modern day and age, four Filipinas tried to spark a change like what both Gabriela Silang and Melchora Aquino did, but this time they revolutionized the Philippines the other way around. Know who these four women are and their contributions for the country.

1. Mocha Uson 

          Mocha Uson has made a great impact to the modern journalism in the country for posting misleading information on her Facebook page, Mocha Uson Blog. Shifted from being a sexy star and entertainer to a political figure, Mocha Uson made commentaries about other politicians and public figures who are opposing the current administration. She also pioneered in the bloggers-turned-journalist and earned her spot as the Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) from May 2017 to October 2018. Her credibility in the position should never be questioned because what sane person would put real media practitioner in power when it could be a social media “influencer” who is famous for her controversial videos and posts. Admittedly a pro-Duterte, she also posted support statements for the current administration that propagated misinformation. Eventually, netizens dubbed her as the “Queen of Fake News.” 

2. Imee Marcos 

           Imee Marcos started to revolutionize the country by saying that Filipinos should move on from all of the misconducts done by her father’s administration, and claiming that there were no human rights violations and economic plunder that happened during her father’s term as president. Eyeing a spot in the upcoming Senatorial elections, she sets aside the controversies tied with her family. She wants to be known as a credible candidate and is trying to win the favor of the LGBT community by branding herself as “tunay na bakla.” Imee Marcos proved (or tried to prove) her credibility by claiming that she graduated with honors in prestigious universities. However, the only drawback in her long list of academic records is that there should never be a list in the first place since none of it was true. Nevertheless, she still defended herself by saying that she is not running for a spot in the Senate based on her academics but based on her performance. She truly is a woman of virtue for deceiving Filipinos like what her late father did. And it is also commendable that despite the numerous lies and deceit, she could still manipulate her history and the country’s history.  

3. Sara Duterte 

             Sara Duterte-Carpio is well-known as the daughter of the incumbent president Rodrigo Duterte . We could also say that she could be the next Imee Marcos of her generation for her passion for honesty, because just like Marcos, she is also a daughter of a dictator who has a questionable wealth. So, is there a need to say more? However, unlike Imee Marcos, she takes on a more vulgar approach in addressing issues directed to her and her family, taunting her political rivals and critics with her straightforward personality. And like other Filipinas in this list, Sara also revolutionizes something: honesty. She claims that honesty is not a requirement for Senatorial candidates, contrary to when a politician is already seated as a Senator, citing a portion of the 1987 Constitution. Politicians from her political party agreed and defended her, while the Filipino people and critics disagrees. Nevertheless, we know that everyone and not just politicians should be honest in everything that they do.

4. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo              Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had a great influence in the country’s politics by being the icon of the Hello Garci scandal, which proved the allegations of her ordering the rigging of the 2004 Presidential elections. Aside from that, she also had a long list of crimes that she committed during her term of presidency like graft and corruption. She also mastered the art of wearing a neck brace just to get away from her plunder case and other crimes, making it as her own fashion statement that proved her great fashion sense. And just when we thought that she would finally stay away from politics because of all the scandals she’s been through, Gloria Arroyo decided to come back and even got the position as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. And because she got back to power with the help of President Duterte, she supported all of his endeavors and also became a Chinese enthusiast, encouraging the Chinese government to operate in the country.  And with her thinking that the Chinese are just allies with no intention to conquer our lands and resources, then she must be blind with all the happenings in the country.

Trimming the unexpected horns

           Despite the endless lies and countless controversies surrounding them, all had something to say and all of them wanted to be heard. Some people still view them as faultless individuals and still praises them for their wrongdoings. Maybe because just like birds, they are constantly chirping our ears out about all their opinions and ambitions for the country. People still believe in the goodness in bad when all that was left was the bad. And they are still being glorified because they are the only ones who are mostly seen and heard in different media platforms.

          To this day, it is crucial to know which individuals to trust and who to glorify. People need to open their eyes to see their mistakes. On the get-go, it is apparent that all of the mentioned women have issues with honesty. But if these women of today are the kind of heroines we are eyeing to make the change we want, then perhaps, the revolution they’ll push forth will succeed to fail. In the first place, these women do not have the slightest intention to change the current situation of the Philippines. As women, we support other women and uplift each other. However, we should be mindful of our actions and we should not be afraid to point out other women’s mistakes. We should stop all of the glorification and take time to thinks things through. Let us just remember that they would do anything and everything, even lie to their constituents, just to achieve their political goals.

Mocha Uson has been a notable public figure since before she became the assistant secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office. It is common knowledge that before she began meddling into politics, she was an entertainer. She became known for being a solid Duterte fanatic, and being the lucky girl she was, the president favored her enough to grant her a position under his wing.

Uson’s time as asec was eventful, to say the least. Not to mention, it was not a very appealing time. Besides her Facebook page “MOCHA USON BLOG”, her job made it easier for her to express her love towards the president, and her extreme hatred for those who oppose him. Her hatred was extreme enough for her to turn to drastic measures, earning her title as a spreader of fake news.

Most Filipinos rejoiced when news broke out that Mocha Uson resigned from her post in the PCOO. It meant there was less BS from the administration, other than what came from the president himself. 

There was, however, only approximately 7 seconds of rejoicing, because rumors flew here and there that the reason she let go of the position she used as a privilege instead of an obligation, was because she had plans to run for a higher position in the government.

Millions of Filipinos, especially on the internet, showed their opposition against such notion of electing someone with a foul mouth and a bad habit of speaking before thinking.

Just recently, it has been confirmed that Uson has plans for a seat in the Senate. The choice, however, is still in the hands of the Filipino people. #
