And another big thing is that after Tiana, we got not one but four more white princesses. Two of which who have the most boring designs of all time. I'm holding onto to Tiana for dear life not just for me but for all these other little black girls who are in desperate need of her. Right now, Tiana is all we have right now. It's the same reason why I'm kinda holding to Wasabi too.
I don’t quite feel like it’s all we have, for people of our generation, bc we have the experience to realize “hey, xyz sucks and I can get my fill elsewhere” and go watch Happily Ever After or look at fanart/fic or latch onto something one of our peers is working on and get a fraction of happiness there and possibly create content ourselves. My side eye towards Disney primarily stems from the fact that for children Disney is an inescapable force of social currency, so it absolutely does suck when there’s one black princess and nine white ones.
But my #lifegoal is not rly “make Disney better so that they can continue monopolizing childhood”

And people seem to forget that Tiana happens to be a sweetheart. She never berates Lottie for dreaming and when Louis gets hurt, she says, "Aw, poor Louis" and doesn't mind waiting for him to feel better. She's a hardworking, dedicated, smart, kind woman and while her movie is problematic as hell, I am glad to have her.
Like, I'm "MEH" about the whole thing and think it could've been better (and Tiana isn't my fave character type, hahaha) BUT
say I encounter a kiddo in the world who adores Tiana, I am never going to shit on that. If it's a little black girl, I will foster the fuck out of that love and let them know that they're awesome and Tiana is awesome.
I do absolutely wish we had more to choose from-- not just because I find this lacking, but because there should be more. Like, there should be multiple characters and narratives.
