nothing worse then when women/tme nonbinaries say they don’t want to create/consume media about women and especially of women who have romantic/sexual relationships with other women + trans women because they think that girlhood/womanhood is too traumatic and tiring and they’d rather dissociate from their selves and their realities by instead only focusing on consuming/creating media about gay men because it’s more interesting to explore or whatever. like. oh okay so you just want to project the lived realities of misogyny onto gay men by using homophobia because you don’t want to explore and define womanhood from outside the realm of misogyny/patriarchy because you’re too afraid to read/write about the complex and rich inner lives of women and especially lbt women. okay. like yes to shame but if you only like reading yaoi/bl manhwa/shounen/seinen/danmei and not yuri/gl manhwa/shoujo/josei/baihe why is that huh. why do you find media about women too difficult to engage in on a serious level.

There's an auction to support the Motion Picture and Television Fund for healthcare for those striking in Hollywood and there's the usual Zooms and dinners with actors, but some of the biddable items are absolutely unreal in the best way
Net proceeds benefit our crew healthcare fund
So apparently another whole ass animated scooby doo movie was canceled, this time featuring Krypto the Superdog, but it leaked onto 4chan and was uploaded onto the internet archive
And you didn't even mention the name of it, let alone link to it? Scooby Doo and Krypto, too! For shame!
The cancelled one
Old link died. Here's a new one!
@thewingedwalrus
This movie was so cute and so good. I hate that they did this
PSA for people who got into Barbie because of the movie:
Just because it was in the movie doesn't mean it's like, an actual fact about the line or Mattel.
Like, the idea that Earring Magic Ken was discontinued. Like. Yeah, he was, but that's how all doll releases work? He had a normal run for a doll. He wasn't cancelled early or pulled from shelves. They still make Ken dolls. "Discontinued" is really misleading. By that logic all the Barbies in Barbie land not being currently sold in stores are discontinued. Ponytail 1959 is discontinued. President Barbie is discontinued. Ect. Ect.
Also those tiktoks claiming to explain Barbie history and lore? A lot of those are spreading misinformation as well. Just be careful at taking info at face value.
Even the part where they declare there were nothing but baby dolls before Barbie--setting aside the entire rest of the history of dolls, there was already a trend for adult/teenage plastic fashion dolls, starting in the mid 1950s. Barbie just 'won' because the size was most appealing (others were larger, like Miss Revlon, or smaller, like Cisette.)
Even Mattel's version of doll history is not always trustworthy.
Yeah like, I get it was for a joke, but I've seen a lot of people take Mattel's word for it and it's annoying.
People need to keep in mind Mattel is a corporation. This movie is ultimately an AD for their dolls. They are trying to sell you things, they are not going to be 100% honest. They want to make themselves look good.
Like Ken never having a job? Funny, but not actually true. Ken has had 40+ careers during the line' long run. Growing Up Skipper was not the only time Mattel ever used the boob growing gimmick. They brought it back for MyScene in 2007.
The line's diversity is a VERY recent development. Yeah, they've had dolls of color going back to the 70's, but they were few and far between. The people behind these dolls has to really push Mattel to get them made. Do not give Mattel credit they don't deserve.
Let this be your sign to watch older movies right now please
And ISTG if I see one argument that you "don't like movies by problematic white men". Oscar Micheaux has films available as far back as 1920's
Alice Guy has such an extensive filmography starting in 1896 that it is genuinely overwhelming. Including the first film with an all african amercian cast in registered history.
Start caring about history and stop hiding behind fake progressive morals to excuse your ignorance.
This person has done THE most impressive job I have ever seen compiling links to many films and books for free
This is an impressive list of film noirs you can watch for free
TubiTV is my favorite streaming site, it has a spectacular list of older films, and you don't need to even create an account to watch them
Also the amount of great older movies available on youtube always impresses me. Every time I can't find an obscure movie on torrent, it is usually just there on youtube. Mosfilm has been remastering their most classic releases and uploading them there.
Anyway, be curious! Search "films about <thing you like>" on your searching engine of choice. Chances are someone made a movie about it no matter how weird and crazy it might seem!
I know I jest sometimes, but films are legitimately great! There is so much to discover out there, it keeps me always excited for the next great thing I can discover that I had never heard about! Please, shed you chains of hollywood fast food, there is so much beauty just at your reach

amptp’s bluffing by the way
i’m speechless
This is how the system of white supremacy operates. The media is used 2 create stereotypes like blk on blk crime. They need black men to fill jail cells for the Prison Indstrial complex
You know what? I’m tired of this. I do not know what exactly they are waiting for. I mean our government comes up with “reasons” to invade other countries, such as Syria, like their government is allegedly violating human rights or something like that. but… I mean for other countries, they do not even have to go deep to bomb the fuck out of this place, they can just look at our media. And this has been happening to people of color since the media has existed.
I’ll never forget this 👇🏾
Did a research project on this in undergrad and the results are extremely alarming because it’s not just in imagery, it’s in language used even in the law making process and within our own communities in a completely different way than expected.
Yuuuup talk about this in our media culture and society class where the exact same Katrina sample was used. White supremacy runs far too wide and too deep to be denied that it exists
OP was deleted for being “a Russian plant” for posting stuff like this. Know your history.

Today I learned 3D animation is a horror show outside the camera's field of view.
Just to add context, the director wanted the scene to use an 85mm lens which is slightly telephoto. Telephoto lenses give a very intimate feel because they compress the scene. Background and foreground objects can appear larger at longer focal lengths.
But that compression can also make objects look the wrong size in context with the subject depending on the framing.
This is done in live action as well using another person's hands in front of the camera.
This is also something that 3d artists do

This is what I mean when I say "fans pretend that they're powerless and have no choice about how they interact with canon/fandom to abdicate responsibility":
...but fanwork creators are not helpless, passive mirrors being held up to canon. We are active participants in responding to and reshaping the narratives that we have chosen to consume/buy from professional creatives and corporations.
Heteronormativity is also a story "we're told from infancy." Heterormativity is ALSO a "structure of power that we live and breathe and eat and sleep within... [a] political and social structure that defines our worlds."
AND YET we challenge that ALL THE TIME, as fans! Why does heteronormativity get to be an exception while misogyny, white supremacy, and other forms of bigotry get a pass?
The person I screenshotted has a WHOLE PHD and yet can't imagine fandom as any better than sheeple being led around by our noses and forced to drink from the well of bigotry.
Never MIND that there's actually a lot of media out there for fandom to "learn other narratives from" featuring women &/or PoC - but when given those opportunities, fandom either ignores that media or manages to make those stories about White Guy Bystander #3 ANYway. Or "this is really cool world building, what if we ignored the female protagonists / protagonists of color and used it as a neat au setting for our white male blorbos instead!"
Fandom is not passive. Fandom makes ACTIVE CHOICES.
And denying our agency wrt bigotry while ALSO celebrating fandom as a ~queer feminist utopia~ where we ~reclaim popular narratives~ and ~rewrite them according to our wildest whims~ is just exposing what our priorities REALLY are. It exposes what we think is immutable about society, what's "too hard" or "impossible" to challenge (even internally), and what we think is worth actively resisting.
Villains in Addams Family movies go to really unnecessary lengths to defraud them of the family fortune. These people just give it away on whims all the time. If I just walked into the house and started wearing their clothes and spending their money, they wold start introducing me as Cousin Intruder and forget there was ever a time I didn’t live with them.
There’s a whole plotline in the Addams Family Musical where Morticia and Gomez realize at the same time they each thought Grandmama was the other one’s parent and no one knows who the hell she is, and literally nothing changes because, well, she’s Grandmama now.
