ok but in addition to the caption on my last post, i am wondering if ag was ever planning on releasing jaya. see... my first impression, upon seeing leaks about tenney and logan back in 2016, was that ag was going to release jaya, too, and they were all in a band together, and i’m starting to wonder if maybe that was the plan
i don’t have a lot of evidence, but:
ag definitely wanted to start a contemporary line
it would be really good marketing to have a group line where everyone’s in a band; “hey kids, if you want the whole band you have to buy all the dolls, lol”
tenney and logan very specifically had new hand molds so they could hold instruments, which is very interesting for dolls that reportedly were planned to be goty, so therefore only around for one year
speaking of which- tenney has five books if you count her journal, with most girls of the year capping off at three with maybe a short story. if she was planned for an extended line, a traditional six-book arc would be a good way to introduce all the characters they planned to sell as dolls
there are a lot of illustrations of jaya in tenney’s journal in comparison to the one (1) of logan, which is intresting because at the time american girl had been trying to retire illustrations for a couple years
jaya’s poses definitely seem like they could’ve been marketing poses; could you not see those photos slapped on a standup in an ag store or on the outside of a box?
tenney got jaya a tambourine for her birthday, aka an instrument she could use in their songs
tenney and jaya also befriend holliday hayes- which btw is a very memorable name that could also be used in marketing- who is interested in music
i doubt this would’ve been a plan for long, maybe dropped before prototypes of jaya could be made because ag decided to just dump their contemporary line as a bunch of different girls with different stories, with logan as tenney’s best friend just because they wanted to try selling boy dolls, but it is an interesting thought and i kinda wish they’d done that, a band line would’ve been cute and each doll could’ve had their own instrument
