Hello! I was wondering if you could do the paladins that their s/o can speak other languages. For example, I can speak french, so whenever I get frustrated, I slip a "merde!" or two out of habit.

A/N: of course anon! Sorry we haven’t been too active we’re working on getting to requests. Languages sure are the coolest thing! (so envious of polyglots) Anyways I kept the language unspecific to keep it relatable (also I barely know any other languages outside of English). I also took some liberties with the languages in-universe seeing as all the the aliens speak English :,D

Shiro

He finds the fact you can speak multiple languages so cool

He found a new appreciation after being held captive by the Galra

So many of the other prisoners would revert to their native languages, talking anxiously to each other

It really reminded him of how alone he felt

So he’s even more doubly happy to be with you (even if he can’t understand much, at least he knows it’s from home)

Whenever you accidentally slip in words from other languages you always get a bit embarrassed (but Shiro finds it adorable)

Hunk

He loves it

He likes quizzing you on foreign foods and trying to get you to guess their origin (“Hunk I’ve told you already I don’t speak that. It’s from space!”)

A hobby of yours is you getting the most obscure words and getting him to try pronounce them

Hilarity ensues

It’s all a bit silly and he always acts so goofy (but at least he’s your goof)

Pidge

Linguists is honestly one of their favorite things

Other than computer coding they don’t know many other languages and they find it so cool you know multiple

“Like you use that to actually talk to other human beings? It’s so fascinating to think how all over the Earth, humans developed different syllables into all these different words and grammar patterns to have complicated meanings and— ”

Summary: it’s hella cool

The two of you also bond over learning little tidbits from other languages from the galaxy (trying to decipher Altean was equally painful and exhilarating)

Keith

Even if he’s not one to openly lavish upon compliments, he can’t help but give a smile whenever you can use your languages to help out

“You were pretty amazing back there [name]”

When no one else is looking, he asks you for study tips

The side of him that never quite left behind kiddy spy games finds being bilingual pretty darn cool (and useful)

He mostly uses it as an excuse to have you to himself though

“I saw Lance looking at you— remember, you’re mine. Also how do I pronounce this again?”

Lance

Takes every opportunity to remind you how amazing you are

Specifically learns phrases from other languages you know just to try recreate english pick up lines

It usually goes terribly wrong

“Hey— you’re a dumpster, may I lift you?” if you’re trash how about I pick you up

Whenever he’s feeling down he loves listening to you just talk about whatever in English or any other language

“It just reminds me of home. You’re home. Love you [name].”

A/N: I wanted to try out a scenario I hope you don’t mind! Also sorry about our inactivity! 

It’s a regular day at the garrison.

Okay, truth be told, it’s been a day on the shittier side of the fence for you— nothing had seemed to go right since the moment you woke up. After a plain breakfast and a training practice filled with nothing but bruises, you were ready to call it quits for the day and resort to holing up in your dormitory.

Running a hand through your sweaty hair, you sigh to yourself in frustration. This day was just not your day— you could already feel the bruises forming.

Finally transversing the last staircase you swipe your ID to unlock your room to find it was already unlocked. Scowling, you open the door— the last thing you need is a break-in—

“Sup [name],” Keith Kogane, your best friend of some ten years, smiles at you from his comfortable sprawl on your bed. Your bed that you really want to crash on.

While most people were offput by Keith’s assertive personality, you found it quite amusing. Especially since your first true introduction to him (not counting the expertly kicked ball to the face) was him hitting a vending machine and screaming bloody vengeance about lost snacks.

You, however, did not appreciate this sense of assertiveness when it came between you and your bed.

One swift push later, you began changing out of your sweaty training clothes.

Recovering quickly, Keith sat up, “come on [name] I thought we were closer than tha—” He cut himself off as he realized what you were doing. Face almost as red as his jacket, he smothers his face in a blanket. “Ah, um, sorry—”

You laugh, pulling on a fresh shirt. “It’s fine Keith. I mean, we’re best buds— nothing you haven’t seen before.” You add on a wink— the finishing blow.

“No it’s not like that— um— well, actually, [name]! I have something to tell you. And it’s … kinda important … .” Keith cautiously puts down the blanket and intently avoids your stare.

It’s unlike Keith to be so … awkward. Even from your younger days, he’d always throw himself headfirst into ‘protecting [name]’s honor’ against other kids three years older than him. Direct and assertive. Those two words summarized the hurricane that was Keith Kogane.

Seeing him like this was almost eerie.

“Hey, you’re okay, right? You can tell me if anything’s wrong,” you gently say.

He rocks around a bit, clenching his fists. “That’s the thing,” he says, talking shakily to your closet, “I’m trying to figure out how to say this. It’s not that something’s wrong but it’s just—” Keith lets out an agonised shout, running his hands raggedly through his hair.

You stand up quickly, grabbing his hands before he starts ripping out his hair. “Keith— KEITH! Please listen to me— whatever it is, it’s going to be okay. I won’t judge you or anything!” your voice shakes a little— seeing Keith, the guy who’s always beaten up the ‘bad guys’ for you— who has been your rock— so unsettled is chilling.

Keith almost looks downright feverish with his blush and he looks at your neck, unable to look up into your eyes. “But that’s what I’m afraid of,” he murmurs softly. “I’m scared that you’ll judge me, you’ll hate me and leave me and then I’ll be alone and it’ll hurt so much and I’m not sure what I’d do because- because, god, [name] I love you!”

He finally meets your shocked eyes, a little hope and sadness in his eyes and so much fear and worry.

I love you.

You step back, releasing his wrists. There’s a tightness in your chest that seems to expand with your thudding heart and your mind is racing a million kilometers an hour and— I— what?  

I love you.

The bubble in your chest pops and suddenly you’re immersed in euphoria and happiness and you can only think to yourself oh … finally.

Keith nervously starts at your lack of response. “I- I get it if you don’t reciprocate it’s—”

You fling your arms around him, hugging him tight, feeling his heartbeat— ba-bump ba-bump— calm you down like it always does. “Don’t be stupid Keith.” You feel as if you’re overflowing in emotions and you’re crying and look terrible with snot and mucus and tears pouring down your face— but you can’t help it.

“Don’t be stupid— I love you too!”

And hey, maybe it wasn’t such a terrible day.

(In the end you have to repeat yourself since the first time he couldn’t hear you through your wailing. But it’s worth it.)

Shiro

He’s a reasonable guy— he likes to think he is at least

He’s probably the most level-headed guy on Team Voltron— though he might tense up a bit if something’s getting on him

#1 protective partner (not obsessively though)

However Shiro likes to build up relationships from understanding and honesty

So he tries to always let their partner know when he’s feeling a bit iffy

Though he is prone to overthinking

And he’s only punched someone else once (or twice)

He’s not really the jealous type but he’s not afraid to give gentle reminders to his partner that they’re his (e.g. sneak attack cuddles)

Keith

Now he’s the salty one

He tries to never let arguments blow out of proportion

But his tendency is to more punch out his feelings than acknowledge the fact he might be feeling jealous

He exercises a lot more— it’s his way of blowing of steam

He tries not to get angry at his partner (mostly just himself, he thinks that he’s feeling inadequate because of himself)

Sometimes he just really needs to open up and talk

It takes awhile but Keith never gives up— he’s not one to let a relationship die over petty reasons :)

A/N: Of course my dude! Hope you like :)

Most people would think he’s the perfect guy to date and usually he is

He’s good at listening (he’s still human though)

Believes in having strong communication and never lets misunderstandings go too far

Asks about your day

Loves to unwind with you after a long day of saving the universe

He likes when you mess with your hair and tries styling your’s

He’s also open to having his nails painted

Sometimes he can be overprotective

Not obsessive, but you learned self-defense pretty quick hanging out with him

He’s also basically a personal fitness trainer who lives off of healthy shakes (made with green space slime) and exercise

#1 snuggle buddy

He’s basically open minded to anything, whether it be dressing up, cooking, playing video games (he especially likes strategy games)

He feels comfortable around you and knows he doesn’t have to act like a leader around you

Sometimes he’s just tired and you two curl up together under a warm blanket

He likes to have tickle fights

In the end, Shiro really just wants to make the most of the life he has with you, especially after losing a year of it locked away

A/N: Thanks for the ask <3 I interpreted the later part of your question as how the paladins felt when you (reader) played with their hair. Also, the relationship isn’t strictly romantic, feel free to interpret it as platonic if that’s what you wanted!

Allura

She misses hanging out with her Altean girl friends when they’d mess around and braid train

When she finds out you’re pretty good at styling hair she’s delighted

When she gets bored of her regular old hairstyle, you’re totally open to helping her out

Her hair is surprisingly silky and you struggle to wrap hair ties but the end result is totally worth it

Hair long enough to do Princess Leia style

Anytime you want to learn how to do a new braid or maybe just see how much hair you can stack vertically, Allura’s your gal

Gossip

Pidge

They don’t really like people touching their hair, but if it’s you they’re like hell to the yes

They taught themself how to braid their hair when it was longer but it’s still hella fun to just mess around with their hair now

You like trying to comb back their wild tangle of hair into something manageable (fails. Every. Time.)

Raiding through Allura’s alien collection of rubber bands, sprays (bioluminescent hair dye??)

They just really like the feeling of you combing through their hair

You also do that thing where you make a bunch of mini-buns with their hair

Sometimes you just sit behind them when they’re typing away and play with their hair

It’s calming for the both of you

Shiro

He’s not really sure what he signed up for

All he knows is that that heavy duty comb looks deadly

At first he’s just humoring you but he starts liking it (free scalp massage?)

He’s not really sure what to do (just… sit?) but he likes looking in the mirror to watch you messing around

Though you’re totally cool with braiding his fringe as he does push-ups

Once you tried straightening all his hair and he looked so droopy and sad save him please

You also tried giving him dreadlocks

Ever since he recovered from the Galra imprisonment, he’s always felt jittery

He has to keep it in control, to try show a reliable front for the team. How else is he supposed to lead Voltron?

But sometimes when he falls asleep he wakes up in cold sweat

His right arm aches, or where his arm used to be

Nightmares

Sometimes he looks up at the stars to try calm himself

Other times he trains

Anxiety: he has to lead Voltron. He has to defeat the Galra. He has to stay strong for everyone. Has to, has to— there was never any choice after he pushed Matt aside and forced himself to be the one getting hit

Certain objects take him back

Panic attacks in the middle of the night

Tight spaces and handcuffs make him uncomfortable

Some days he just can’t though

He just wants to stay curled up in his bed and never leave the castle

He doesn’t have the energy to be fighting the galaxy, all he wants is sleep

And maybe one day the universe will let him :,)
