You were surely going to throw Lance off the tower balcony when the power came back on. According to Pidge and Shiro, he’d been messing around the power source of the castle, only to activate some sort of ‘emergency alert’ that sent the castle plunging into darkness.
Keith, your boyfriend of only two weeks, sat awkwardly on the edge of the bed as you rushed around your room. If you weren’t moving or busy, it made you jittery, eyes always scanning for something else that could be done. You folded sheets, brought out at least five different blankets, headphones, even a set of flower incense Allura had gifted you.
“Anything else?” you blew a strand of hair off your face, hands on your hips, but Keith nowhere to be seen. “Keith?”
“Behind here,” Keith said awkwardly, hidden behind the pile of supplies you had brought out. You let out a small ‘oh!’, tilting your head to the side to smile at him.
“Is it enough? Do let me know- I can get another mattress if this one’s too firm.”
Without waiting for an answer, Keith grabbed your wrist, and you stalled in your footsteps, seeing his rare, comforting smile.
“It’s all enough, thank you,” he said gently. “Is something wrong?”
You blinked at him, then laughed. “I just don’t want you to be uncomfortable. After all, my bed is a bit on the… shorter side for you.”
After a fraught discourse, Keith had finally been unable to dissuade your insistence that he take the bed, and you would sleep on the sofa. You assured him- and he knew too- you’d fallen asleep soundly many times at various strange places around the castle. The sofa would barely affect you, while Keith, a paladin going through hours of intense training a day, could probably use the bed more than you.
You two fell into easy conversation as he pulled you down to sit next to him. Your head rested against his shoulder, as the moon glowed brightly outside your window and the translucent curtains. He told you about the mission he’d been on- some distant planet filled with waterfalls, and the fox-like creatures he and Hunk had rescued and brought for rehabilitation. Keith promised you two could visit them in the terrarium where they were recovering, delighting you.
“So, what’d you do today?” Keith asked, eyes so filled with genuine interest as if it were the hottest topic in the universe. Before you and Keith had finally gotten together, he’d often trail behind you when he didn’t have training or missions, as you scurried up and down through the castle keeping everything in immaculate condition. You’d happily chat with him- though granted, it was one-sided for a while, as he seemed too flustered to do anything but nod along and stare at his boots.
Regardless, Keith knew your daily routine like the back of his hand, down to the hour. Yet he still always enjoyed hearing about how your day went.
“You know nothing special happened,” you smiled, head resting against his shoulder. “I found a box of Altaean recipes in the storage unit, I might try some out tomorrow if there’s time.”
“I’ll be your taste-tester then,” Keith offered.
“Really? Most of these seem poisonous,” you teased. “Or are you that eager to try intergalactic tentacle soup and alien slime pudding?”
Keith’s face turned a tinted green, then he cleared his throat. “You know what, I think Lance will be free tomorrow, he can try them out.”
The sound of your laughter always made Keith’s mouth tug into a smile, despite how hard he had fought against it when you two first met. Sometimes it seemed so foreign, almost impossible that you, who had been forced under the palm of Galrian oppressors, always shone like a beacon. Never had you let the past you scarcely spoke about bring you down, at least in the eyes of all the Paladins.
Oddly, you still had energy by the time midnight rolled around, even if Keith caught your eyelids fluttering a few times, your speech sometimes lulling and eyes slipping out of focus. For some reason, he could see you fighting against sleep. Maybe you thought it’d be rude to fall asleep before him? Keith grinned, pressing a light kiss to your forehead, causing you to stutter mid-sentence.
“It’s getting late,” Keith reminded gently. “Aren’t you tired?”
“Psh, not at-” you trailed off, trying desperately to stifle a yawn. Plus, Keith’s shoulder was so warm, and the aroma of the candles were practically serenading you to sleep, but if you slept now, if you succumbed-
The nightmares.
The screaming, the cold sweats when you burst awake, the short breaths of fear, hyperventilating as you had to spend hours trying to ground yourself in the darkness.
You looked into Keith’s eyes, so full of concern, knowing that you could never show that side to him- not any of the Paladins, but him least of all. All you had to do was stay awake for one single night, and he was making it really, really difficult.
At some point, you slipped into unconsciousness. You’re not sure when, because the nightmares came almost instantly, and there you were, in a pitch-black ocean.
“No,” you murmured, feeling your heartbeat accelerate immediately. “No, no, not tonight, please-”
A ripple of electric pain shot through your body, tracing your spine like a ghost. You screamed out, falling to your knees, gasping for breath as you hugged your body.
“Keep moving.” The Galrian guards would order as they marched you through the endlessly winding black corridors of the space vessel, nothing more than a set of hands to perform repairs, lest they send scorching pain through every nerve in your body.
But in this nightmare, you couldn’t move. Could only stare down, pleading and begging and hands outstretched as your captor’s voices bled into every cell of your body, yelling commands and blinding-white agony shredding your senses to ruin, and tears dripped into the pool of blackness around you, but all you could do was cry out.
You had to keep moving, somehow. Or else the lingering phantom of the suffering would climb along your body, whispering under your skin. Yet it stretched on for hours. Endlessly, in a void you could never escape whenever your mind surrendered to sleep. When blackness took over your world, your throat felt raw from screams that had never echoed.
You shot awake, tears still fresh on your cheeks, fist clutching at your shirt, gasping for air without a sound. It had felt even more real tonight. You stared at your arms in the darkness, as if new scars really had bloomed, as if the soldiers broke into your room at night to send shockwaves of voltage through you again.
Their faces were still flashing in your mind, racing by like a shutter camera. Mocking the fact that some scars couldn’t be healed in the castle infirmary.
The smallest sob escaped you, head ducking to hide in your knees. It wouldn’t be the first time you couldn’t go back to sleep after the nightmares. You were all too familiar with staring blankly out the window until the rays of dawn seeped through, then pretending to the others you had only just woken, and hadn’t been stifling cries for hours.
Oh, but Keith’s damned hearing, whether from his Galrian blood or his training, immediately heard the second choked hiccup that left you, even if your hand muffled your own mouth.
You hadn’t known how light of a sleeper he was, until you felt someone kneeling in front of you, obsidian eyes overflowing with worry.
Even before dating, you were always the one with the words to say, and Keith felt nearly as helpless as you, unsure what exactly to do but hold you gently by the shoulders.
“You… don’t have to talk about it, if you don’t want to,” Keith muttered. It didn’t take a genius, nor his just-awakened brain, too long to deduce that you had a nightmare. And certainly, it explained your reluctance to fall asleep earlier.
They must’ve been a common occurrence for you, but Keith’s heart strained at seeing you still shakily breathing and burying your face deeper into the ball you curled up in.
Carefully, so not to startle you, Keith sat beside you, hesitating to hug you, one arm awkwardly slung around your shoulders until he felt your shuddering breaths slow ever so slightly when you leaned in against his side.
“Can-” your breath hitched, and Keith froze at the sound of your voice. “Can we just stay like this, for a little bit?”
All earlier hesitation melted away, only into you. Always you, and everything else was just the background.
“We can stay as long as you need,” Keith whispered, one hand holding yours, and despite the awkwardness, even a dying sun couldn’t force him to budge a single inch until you were ready.
“Do you know why rain happens on earth?” Keith continued talking quietly, feeling your racing heartbeat slow back down with every word. “Because clouds carry all this weight and pain with them, and then they rain when it’s too much for them to hold. Then storms cover the sky, but they never last forever. It’ll end, it always does. And then everything is going to be okay.”
It was a story he had heard from someone in his memory, but he wasn’t sure who. A message of hope that winning battles meant one day there’d be battles to fight no more.
So when you fell asleep for the first time in a long time after a nightmare, still in Keith’s arms, shielding you from the wounds of the past, and when you woke up to see him soundly sleeping beside you, the first stitch over your torn heart began to form.
The nightmares wouldn’t stop immediately. The memories would always cling onto you. But seeing the clouds painted along the dawn horizon, you were okay. It would be alright in the end, and even if it didn’t feel like it yet, a certain red Paladin was there with you to guide you home in the storm.
your swords clashed together, occasionally pushing each other back and the two of you continued to dance around the training room. your breathing was heavy as you and keith have been practicing together for almost an hour straight now. his breathing was lighter than yours and he was lighter on his feet and he knew it; hence the reason you continued to push yourself harder. earlier, you had approached keith and asked him to help you train. and he was doing just that, and he wasn’t going easy on you.
you continued circling each other until he pounced forward once again; you raised your sword to block against him but you were too slow. your sword swung out of your hand and hit the ground behind you. you turned to retrieve your sword but that was a mistake as keith advanced once again, this time pushing you to the ground and he grabbed your wrist before pinning it to your back. completely out of breath, he sat on top of you for a second keeping you pinned.
“okay keith i get it, let go!”
frustrated, he spits back: “you can’t turn your back on the enemy (y/n)! what were you thinking?! if this were real, you’d be dead!”
his grip on your wrist loosens and you spin from underneath him, attempting to kick him off but he sees it coming. he adjusts himself and makes it impossible to kick him and his hands fly back to your wrists, this time pinning them to the floor beside your head. you struggle for a bit but deem the fight over. you lay on your back looking up at him and he looks down at you; both catching your breath.
when he speaks again it comes across as gentle, as concerned.
“you need to get your stamina up, and you need more practice with your sword..” he continues on but you cut him off
“im trying!”
“you need to try harder!” he fights back.
you must give him a face because he immediately apologizes
“im sorry, but i don’t want to see anything happen to you and you need to be able to protect yourself.”
“thank you keith, but i think we’re done for today..” you trail off and he quickly realizes the position you’re in; him straddling your waist and your arms pinned to the floor.
he jumps off of you and reaches out a hand to help you up but you ignore it; pulling yourself up you turn from him and retrieve your sword.
he quietly watches as you hang your practice sword on the rack and walk out of the training room without another word.
a voice suddenly sounds from the upper-level of the room “you can’t expect her to like you back when you’re so harsh on her.”
keith looks up and finds shiro leaning over the railing, looking down at keith with a certain look on his face
“i didn’t do anything wrong shiro, i was helping her train!”
“and so you told her to try harder? do you know how much she practices? you need to learn how to word things better, keith.”
keith gives him a death stare and shiro just shook his head and headed out of the room to leave keith with his thoughts
keith sighed loudly and ran his hands through his hair
“Keith got turned into a what?” You asked Shiro. Tilting your head has if that would help you hear better. The team left for a mission a few hours ago and just got back.
You were excited to see your boyfriend, but when he didn’t come up out of his hanger, you were worried. But the Shiro told you something that made you realize that space is weirder than you thought.
Shiro had explained to you that the Galra had some new magic and used that magic to turn Keith into a cat? At first, you didn’t believe, but when Pidge walked out of the red lion’s hanger with a black cat with extra hair on their head, you thought you had seen it all.
“A cat” Shiro answered your question as you walked closer to Pidge. The cat in their arms looked up at you. The cat was fluffy and somehow had Keith’s same signature glare.
They had the same purple eyes that Keith did. “I think with the help of Allura, I should be able to turn him back” Pidge said with a tilt of their glasses as they placed Keith on the ground.
“But I don’t know how long that will take,” Pigde noted “I’m not even sure if Keith is Keith”. “What?” Hunk said as he looked over at Pidge. “Well I’m not sure if Keith got turned into a cat with the mind of a cat or with the mind of Keith”
Pidge said as they looked over at Hunk and then back at Keith. “Well someone needs to take care of him,” Shiro said as he looked around. “Well I’m not. I have stuff to do”
Lance said before walking off to his room. “Maybe Y/n should do it,” Hunk pointed down to your legs “I mean, look at Keith”. Everyone looked down as did you to see that Keith was rubbing against your legs.
Like a real cat. “Maybe he does have the mind of Keith” Pidge noted with furrowed brows as they moved their glasses. “That’s fine with me if it’s okay with Y/n”. You looked down at Keith before looking up at everyone else with a smile.
“Yeah I’d love to” You reached down and picked Keith up, Keith immediately resting in your arms. You then walked back to your room. This week might be weirder than you thought.
It had been a couple of days since Keith got turned into a cat, and it was differently weird. Pidge had decided that Keith still had the mind of Keith but just a cat body. Though, Lance did not appreciate that since when he tried to pick Keith up, he scratched him.
Pidge said that it should only take a couple more days, but you like cat Keith. He was still Keith, but cuter. You didn’t think Keith could look cuter.
Though he was a cat, he was still Keith. Moody, hot-headed, and only really tolerated you.
Since Keith couldn’t go on missions or train and you didn’t do any of that to begin with, Keith hung out with you. You spent most of your time fixing stuff around the castle. You were an engineer, like Hunk.
But you liked Keith’s company. He just slept and watched you work, but you liked it. You normally did all of this alone, so you liked it. Sometimes, Keith also did the cutest things, in your opinion.
Like he would cuddle up with you. When you were working, sleeping, or just resting. But you kinda wanted your boyfriend back. You wanted to cuddle him.
You wanted to talk to him. You slumped in your chair at your desk as you thought about this. You wanted your boyfriend back. You let out a sigh as he leaned forward on your desk with your arm.
Keith walked over from your bed and jumped on the table when he heard you sigh. “Hey love” you said and reached up to pet Keith’s hair.
Keith mewled as he walked into your hand and sat in front of you. You continued to run your hand through Keith’s fur. That was something you and Keith liked.
You because it gave you something to do with your hands. As an engineer, you were kinda handsy, needing to do something, or maybe you had ADHD. Keith liked it because he liked the comfort he felt when someone did it.
Keith’s hair was also soft and fluffy. You loved it. “Your hair is so soft” you said with a small smile. “Or should I say fur” you said with a laugh, and your smile grew. Somehow, Keith looked annoyed as a cat.
You laughed at that as Keith looked away from you. “Come on” you laughed as he moved closer to Keith. “You know you love me” Keith looked back at you and placed his nose on yours.
Your nose wrinkled at the feeling but you loved it.
You held Keith in your arms as you walked into the bridge. Pidge had finally finished the cure with the help of Allura. And it was time to give it to Keith. It was in a needle, and you were also tasked with holding Keith still.
“Ready Y/n. Ready Keith” Pidge said as they walked closer. “Ready” you said, and Keith meowed. Pidge looked around, and everyone else nodded as Pidge walked closer and shot Keith with that needle.
For a while nothing happened and everyone thought it wouldn’t work. “It didn’t work Pidge” Lance said but was quickly proven wrong as Keith started to shake.
Everyone looked at Keith, who is still in your arms. A couple ticks later a human Keith laid in your arms. He quickly wrapped his arms around your neck. You laughed as you placed a kiss on Keith’s forehead.
“You looked cute as a cat,” you said as Keith blushed from your statement.
I was wondering if you write for any of the BOM members.
If so can I get angst to fluff, Kolivan and Ulaz (separately) with a medic s/o who is a member of team voltron and they get poisoned?
If not, then Shiro, keith, and lance with the same scenario.
I do believe at this point only God knows when this ask was sent in, I'm like really bad at answering reqs in a timely manner but I think everyones aware of this at this point.
I absolutely LOVED this plot idea and may or may not be writing additional parts for the Paladins as well lol
as always, I hope you enjoy! please feel free to comment/reblog with your thoughts🫶
c/w: poison; medical facility; mentions of fighting; badly written 'fight' scene; Kolivan gets wounded in his and reader is the one wounded in Ulaz's; reader is a medic so if you don't like depictions of medical practices, even briefly, this probably isn't your fic love; Ulaz’s got out of hand and is more of a small one shot than a scenario. my bad.

For as long as you could remember, you had always wanted to be a doctor. Your dream was to help people. You'd joined the Garrison Space Program in hopes of getting the opportunity to further your knowledge in multiple areas of medicine, quickly working your way into position of field medic.
Getting the chance to actually go to space had never been in your plans, you liked having your feet on the ground, where you could be more useful. But signing up for the Garrison didn't leave you with much choice in such matters.
The mission was supposed to be straight forward and to the point, you were hardly even needed. The people in charge wanted you there for the soul purpose of logging the members vitals. Collect scientific data so that the Garrison can use it for their next generation of space suits.
You had only wished it'd been that simple.
It was difficult to tell time in space. Your easiest guesses had been the rotation of meals and when you and the other prisoners were let out to fight in the gladiator pits. You loathed the days you were meant to fight and mostly kept to yourself in order to attend to wounded prisoners best you could.
When Shiro had told you he was busting out, you hadn't even hesitated in packing up any medical scraps you had left and leaving them with your apprentice of sorts. Promising to return to free the rest of the prisoners. Neither of you wanted to leave them there, but getting both of you out would be hard enough.
Getting back to Earth proved far easier than you'd anticipated with the Galran technology. You'd tried to attend to Shiro's arm best you could while he piloted the two of you home.
Home. You honestly thought you'd never see it again.
The landing was, rough. But you'd survived, and then you'd been treated as if you were a threat. Saved by a bunch of cadets before you could be transported back to the Garrison, where you probably wouldn't have seen the light of day for a good while.
Thinking back on those early days, how you'd come to be with the Paladins of Voltron in the Castle of Lions, was almost nostalgic despite not having been so long ago.
Kolivan
Organizing some of your equipment, you tried to busy yourself to not think of the mission they were on. Trying not to get too concerned for the team you'd come to think of as your family. Trying not to think of the one you'd come to love.
Before you could spiral into worst case scenarios, the door to your clinic burst open, Keith holding it open while Antok carried an unconcious Kolivan through the threshold, gently placing him on your table.
You were in full doctor mode before he was down, already gathering up various tools to check his vitals.
"What's the situation?" You asked to no one in particular.
"I think he's been poisoned. He was grazed and just collapsed not long after."
“Are you hurt?” A quick scan told you Keith was relatively unharmed.
“No, it’s just Kolivan.”
Cursing under your breath, you started searching for the wound, making quick work of cleaning it and patching it up after pulling a blood sample from it.
"Get this to Pidge, tell her to run it with every type of poison we have, I need to know what was on that blade." Keith was out of the room before you couldn't even finish.
You prepped every antidote you had or could make, waiting to hear back from Pidge.
Satisfied with your preparation, you turned all your focus and energy to Antok, checking him over for injuries and checking his vitals until he huffed out an “I’m fine.” taking up position by the door and watching you as you began to pace, no more concerns left to keep your mind busy from your bedridden lover.
"Y/n."
Kolivan's voice was hoarse, but very much real. You felt tears spring to your eyes as you turned to look at him.
"I'm okay." He tried to sit up, stopping only due to your hand on his shoulder, pushing him back down on to the bed.
"Okay or not you're going to stay put until I say otherwise."
It wasn't much longer before Keith returned with the type of poison, and you had the antidote administered.
You watched as even Antok seemed to relax, he and Keith both leaving the infirmary to give you some space.
Kolivan watched in silence as you cleaned up your area, carefully stashing away every antidote for every poison you've ever come across or even just read about.
"I'm okay, my love." He says again.
"I know, but you're only okay because I know what I'm doing. You could have died today." You tried to keep the tears threatening to break at bay.
"But I didn't because you know what you're doing. I have nothing to fear if I have you."
You scoffed a laugh, glaring at him over your shoulder.
He just shrugged, holding open his arms for you. Crawling up onto the bed, you snuggled into his chest.
"The mission always comes first." He whispered, a reminder of the life you'd signed up for and willingly walked into the day you'd fallen for him.
"And I'm not saying it shouldn't, just that you don't have to be so reckless with your health."
"I am not reckless."
The pointed glare you shot him made him chuckle, holding you tighter.
"I'll always come back to you safe, my love."
"Safe enough at least." You grumbled, curling tighter around him, causing him to flinch slightly from pressure on his wound, and hold you tighter against him to keep you from pulling away because of it.
Ulaz
You didn’t often find yourself actually in the thick of battle unless the Castle was, but even then there was a level of safety.
Finding yourself actually on a Galra cruiser was not common for you. At least not since you escaped your prison. But you’d sworn you’d be back for the ones you left behind, and after plenty of arguing back and forth, you found yourself tagging along with the paladins to do just that.
Moving about the ship to find your way to the cells felt like second nature, you and Shiro leading the way. The operation was going smoothly up until you passed the hall you wished you could forget.
Ulaz had lived on that hall. Forth door on the left, knock twice, wait, knock twice again. It was ingrained in you, just as the safest path to it was.
You'd tried not to think of Ulaz or your time together on the ship, it was easier not to than to ponder what might've become of him. Had he been made? Would the other Blade's have gotten him out if he had? Was he even still alive?
Time wasn't a commodity you had as you found yourself in the cells, already wrapping up any wounds that needed immediate care and taking note of what could be done once back on the ship.
You'd been far too focused on assisting the wounded, you'd forgotten the dangers of mission and the fact that could easily turn into a battle.
The prisoner you were helping screamed just a moment too late and you felt searing pain as a blade made contact with your arm. You hardly had time to look at your attacker before all you saw was the back of a Galra soldier.
Breathing a weary sigh of relief, you finished your work and urged the prisoner to follow the others, before taking a quick assessment of your wound and the room around you, smiling when Ulaz dropped to his knees beside you.
"What can I do to help?" He asked earnestly, checking your wound himself.
"I think there was poison on the blade, so if I fall unconscious, get Pidge, the Green Paladin, to run a test to figure out what type, I should have the antidote-"
"Get away from them!" Ulaz grunted as he blocked Keith's attack.
"No, stop. He's not hurting me."
The Paladin's all looked at you like you were insane. "He's Galra, Y/n." Hunk stated incredulously. "You're literally bleeding."
"And he dispatched the one that made me bleed. Look I'll explain on the ship, but lets get these prisoners to safety."
Lance moved to pick you up, but Ulaz tightening his grip and standing effortlessly with you stopped him.
"Lead the way, Paladin." He said gruffly.
Somewhere between the holding cells and the lions, you lost consciousness entirely. Comforted by Ulaz’s presence and the knowledge you’d be safe as long as he had you.
“We’re just going to let him stay here? What if he’s leading them right to us?”
“He hasn’t left Y/n’s side for longer than it takes to go to the bathroom, does that really seem like someone who’d compromise them?”
“He’s Galra Keith.”
“And when have the Galra ever not been completely forthcoming with exactly how they feel about us? Face it Lance, even the Galra have emotions and aren’t all bad.”
“But he was on a Galra fleet cruiser, that’s not exactly a green flag.”
“Y/n trusts him, so we at least need to hear them out.”
“Do they always talk this much?” Ulaz whispered.
You chuckled, followed by a coughing fit. Cracking open your eyes and squinting against the bright lights of your infirmary.
“This is mild for them.” Your voice was hoarse from lack of use. “You get used to it though.”
“Y/n!” Lance screeched, rushing to your side, shoving Ulaz away from you to check you over. “Keith, go get the others! Y/n how are you feeling? Do you need anything? What can I do to-”
You reached your hand up, covering his mouth. “Dim the lights, they’re gonna give me a headache. And don’t shove the love of my life away from me again or I swear I’ll leave all your healing to those ten thousand year old pods. Understood?”
His eyes widened in shock, looking between you, to Ulaz, and back again.
“Love of your life?” The muffled question felt just as incredulous as it was probably supposed to sound. Pinning him with what he dubbed the ‘Mom Eyes’ he quickly moved to dim the lights.
Ulaz returned to his spot beside you, gently pulling your hand up to his lips and kissing the back of it gently.
The other Paladins joined you, each taking turns to fill in the blanks of while you were out. Pidge informed you of the type of poison on the blade and how shocked she was that you actually had the antidote. Hunk mentioned the few survivors that have refused any type of healing, holding out for you to check them over. Finally, it was Allura that demanded to know why in the universe you thought bringing a Galra on board was a good idea. You just shrugged and shared a look with Ulaz.
“Because we’re married.”
The room filled with various amounts of confused faces, indignant squawks –yes, squawks– and a barrage of questions sounding over top others. Your voice couldn’t be heard even if you tried to answer any of them.
Ulaz brought the room to silence with a laugh, an honest to goodness full belly laugh unlike one you’d ever imagined getting from him. He looked at you fondly, kissing the back of your hand once more before turning to your team.
He filled them in on how you’d met while you were imprisoned, how you’d come to fall in love, the ceremony of a wedding the two of you had completely alone in his quarters, and finally of how he was instrumental in yours and Shiro’s escape. He told them that neither of you had ever expected to meet again after that. War wasn’t kind on anyone, but especially not on lovers.
When he’d been notified that there was an escape attempt happening at the cells you had been held in, he left his post to go check it out.
“Knowing Y/n, I almost expected their return for the captives. I needed to know they were safe if it was them. I truly mean all of you no harm. I just wanted to make sure my Y/n was safe.”
“What made you break away from the Galra in the first place? It’s cool you’re in love with our Doc, but you’re still Galra, no offence.”
“I was never truly affiliated with the Galra Empire. Much like you, I seek to bring it down. I was working on the inside as a spy when I met Y/n. I am just glad they are mostly safe now. Thank you Paladins, for caring for them while I couldn’t.”

I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!
Hello world! I'm your wild girl.
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!”
Nova’s blue eyes twitched in frustration as tools and small gadgets jumped off of the table and shelves as a result from the high bass setting that echoed through the ship.
Even with her earplugs pushed tight into her ears and her sole attention drawn to the weird space spore connected to her computers and scopes, the obnoxious music managed to penetrate her small bubble.
It seemed to be a religious practice for the ship's captain to blare annoying Earthen 80's music whenever they could. And it annoyed the other ship’s occupants to death.
“Stone age love and strange sounds too.
Come on, baby, let me get to you.
Bad nights causing teenage blues.
Get down ladies, you've got nothin' to lose.”
On the floor above, Nexia was being restricted to a much-needed nap.
The upbeat music caused her to groan in frustration and slam her pillow onto her face, desperate to at least muffle the infuriating sound. She continued to steam in anger as she reached over for her belt and buckled the pillow around her head. She began to smash her head against the wall.
“Hey, street boy, want some style?
Your dead end dreams don't make you smile.
I'll give you something to live for.
Have you and grab you until you're sore.”
Ishoël was busy in the ship’s hull with her maps and coordinates. Her large purple ears twitched and rang slightly due to their sensitivity to the blaring music, but she couldn’t help but tap her foot and swish her tail along with the beat.
Being of Galran descent, she had never heard such upbeat music before, only monotone hymns and war chants. As much as her squad would whine and complain, she quite liked Earthen music. It was so different!
“Hello, daddy. Hello, mom.
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!
Hello world! I'm your wild girl.
I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!”
In the center of it all, the bringer of suffering was you. You danced around the ship’s deck like no one was watching - and even when Nexus and Nova would sit by, glare, and judge you, you wouldn’t stop anyways.
You would always argue these moments of dance and song were all in honor of your team’s success of the many successful liberation missions against the Galra Empire. The twins and Ishoël would always agree with your statements and let you return to your goofy, silly party state.
Oh, the perks of being Captain!
Your long pink hair swished and swayed with every movement, you enjoyed having your hair down once in a while. You loved these rare moments, when you could blare your foreign music and dance wildly.
“Cherry bomb!
Cherry bomb!
Cherry bomb!
Cherry bomb!”
Back under the decks, Nexus trudged out of her barracks with her pillow still tied tightly around her ears and entered her sister’s lab. Nova glanced up from her test subject towards her miserable twin.
Any other day the scientist would smirk and revel in her twin’s irritation, but both of the twins were suffering terribly at the moment.
“I swear, I’m going to kill that nerdy Earth kid for introducing her to this crap.” The eldest twin grumbled as she slammed her head onto the messy work desk in front of her. Her pillow knocked over a pencil cup and an empty test tube.
The younger twin nodded her head silently, her eyes never breaking from one of her many computer screens, her pale nimble fingers flying over the keys.
“What’re you doing anyways? Trying to make electricity with your space potato?” The ship was blessed with a moment of silence as the sound system was preparing for the next terrible Earthen song.
Nova ignored her guest and carried on with her business. “Isn’t that the squishy asteroid thing we picked up outside?” Another round of silence. The eldest grew a tick mark from her sister’s kuudere personality, but the expression was turned into one of confusion when Nova read the computer screen, “Under attack...Galra...Help.”
“What?!”
Nova ignored Nexus again as she typed in the coordinates the space spore produced. With a chime from her computer, she turned the screen to her Nexus. The image on the screen provided all the answers.
“The Olkari?” Nexus asked. Nova nodded in affirmation. Nexus nodded firmly, “Let’s get this to miss leader, before she makes us all deaf.”
“We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I~”
Nova and Nexus shared a horrified look before sprinting out of the lab and to the main deck. “Not this song! It’s awful!”

The sight before the mighty Paladins of the Legendary Voltron was not at all what they were expecting.
When the Paladins heard whimpers and wails behind the cell door, their immediate thoughts went to torture, but last time they checked, a romantic movie with the Romeo and Juliet troupe wasn’t torture.
The Black, Red, Blue, and Yellow paladins shared a dumbfounded look with each other.
“She loves you!” Their mission’s target was sobbing like a baby, his eyes never tearing away from the holographic movie screen.
The paladins approached the kidnapped king. “King Lubos?” The black paladin asked. Confusion swam in all of the paladins’ minds. Both the king and his chained assistant turned to the newcomers.
“Who are you? The jesters I requested?”
“Ummm…” The blue paladin started awkwardly, “We’re here to like...rescue you?”
The king made a noise in the back of his throat and discreetly pressed a button on the side of his recliner. The lights flashed on momentarily blinding the occupants, and the main doors slid open. Red lights and sirens flashed all around.
The Galran base leader stalked into the room with a vicious smirk. They were caught!
“You could’ve just said ‘no thanks’.” The yellow paladin remarked towards the traitorous king.
“Looks like someone came to rescue you, your highness.” The base leader smirked in amusement.
“You turned your back on your own people to save your own skin.” The black paladin accused, offending the Olkarian King.
“I’m doing this for my people! They wanted to fight the Galra, but they’re too powerful. The gala could destroy us!” The king tried to defend his actions, but it was a blatant excuse and the Paladins knew it.
“So you helped enslave your people to build some super weapon?” The blue paladin hissed.
“Don’t make me the bad guy!” King Lubos snapped and pointed a finger toward the base leader, “He forced me to do it!”
“Did he force-feed you too?”
The silence spoke a thousand words.
“You’re no king.” The red paladin piped up before charging at the Olkarian king. The royal tried to scramble away, but was head-butted by the chained assistant and thrown into the paladin’s grasp.
The red paladin raised his bayard toward the king’s throat. “Ok! We’re walking out of here! Anyone who tries to stop us and Lubos gets it!” The paladin’s teammates spluttered from shock of Keith’s sudden declaration.
“La-sai, what’re you doing?” The king whimpered towards the angered assistant. “You betrayed our people, I can’t live this lie anymore!” La-sai stated with a deep glare.
“You don’t want me to hurt your genius engineer, right?” The red paladin returned his attention to the Galra commander.
“Oh, be my guest~ His work is done. The cube is complete.”
“What?” King Lubos exclaimed, sweat dripping from his forehead. “B-But, I thought we had a deal!”
“Guards, put them all out of their misery.” The commander smirked. The Galra soldier bots’ guns lit up as they began to charge its ammo, but before anything could happen, an explosion shook the entire building. Red laser blasts cut through the wall and separated the paladins and the Galra.
Through the newly formed hole was a mysterious ship. One that only the Galra could identify.
“Valkries!” The Galra leader was choked on the large clouds of smoke.
“Need a lift?” A female voice called out through the plane’s speakers. The paladins didn’t know who or what side they were on, but they needed a quick escape and the world presented itself with one. Hastily, those who sided with Team Voltron climbed onto the ship’s nose and held on tight. The pilot backed out from the building and sped off towards the forest.
“I got pick up, Artemis. Light ‘em up!”
“Roger, Luna!”
A plane nearly identical to their rescue vessel, other than its color scheme, soared past them and began laser assaults on the main building as well as taking out all the Galra posts surrounding the base.
“Who are you?” The black paladin shouted over the wind. He tried his best to distinguish their rescuer, but with both the tinted window and helmet visor, the Shiro could only see the pilot’s silhouette.
“An ally!” She answered with a thumb’s up.
“Shiro, Lance, you guys okay?! Who is this?” The green paladin asked through their comm link, tailing the foreign plane into the woods.
“We don’t know, they said they’re an ally.” Shiro answered back.
“Here’s your stop!” The pilot said as she hovered above the ground, nearest to where the Olkari village was settled.
“It’s the Geidi Prime Valkyries!” An Olkarian exclaimed, triggering the rest of the populace to flock towards the plane, all cheering and waving.
King Lubos practically threw himself off of the plane’s nose and went onto his knees, his forehead buried deep into the ground. With the Valkyries here, he was toast now! He began to vomit out praises and apologizes, beginning for his safety.
“The what?” Lance asked the nearest Olkarian to him. The alien brought their hand down from the air and clasped them to their chest in a lovesick manner. “The Geidi Prime Valkyries! They’re the best of the Geidi Prime brigades whose mission is to stop all Galra! Much like yours, mighty paladins.”
The paladins observed the medium-sized ship. It had more length than height with its nose being the most prominent and decorative. Along the hood was painted outstretched wings with a sword running through the middle. Down its body was a mint green stripe, and numerous painted tally marks dotted the line. It had four thrust engines with a laser cannon on each of its four wings. The wings themselves formed an ‘x’ shape.
The pilot saluted to the crowd through the window, before swinging back around towards the Galra base and hitting its thrusters. As seemingly fast as their own lions, the vessel swerved through the trees and out of sight.
The Olkari crowd continued their cheering even after she left. Pidge was unashamedly a part of this crowd.
The paladins stared at their youngest with raised eyebrows.
Pidge chuckled sheepishly when she finally realized the looks her team was throwing at her. “What??” She asked innocently. “Did you see those Incom 5H5 fusial thrust engines?! And the LP8 laser cannons?!” Pidge continued on with her fangirl rave.
Hunk, Lance, and Keith recoiled when Pidge began to drool.

“All bystanders are free from the battle zone.”
“About time! What’d you do? Have a pint of mead and flirt?” You snorted.
Artemis was always the first to respond, and always with a sassy comment. “I wouldn’t have minded, the one in black was cute.”
“Whatever, Luna.” You grinned at Nova’s annoyance.
“Are you two done with your lovers’ quarrel up there, because the Galra’s newest weapon is on the move.” Gemini was the next to come through the link.
“Alright, alright, what you got for us, Apollo?” You asked. Your eyes trailed on the weird black floating cube in front of you.
“So far it hasn’t done anything, but cruising along the planet’s surface.” Nova’s smooth, monotone voice answered. “Gemini and I are still trying to hack into the main base to get intel.”
Both Valkyrie ships cruised parallel to each other, staying a good distance from the cruising cube: the Galra’s newest war machine.
“It’s just a dumb cube, what’s it gonna do? Shoot lasers at us?” Nexus wisecracked with a smirk.
The purple lining of the cube flashed and formed a- “GAH! I didn’t mean it!” It seemed the weaponry had heard Artemis’ taunts and fired a laser at her.
“You just had to go and taunt the thing didn’t you?”
“Shut up and help me!”
You rolled your eyes and went to assist your partner, who became the target for the cube’s lasers. You fired lasers at the cube, the bullets only being absorbed and no damage coming to the cube. You became the next target, as the cube started firing its lasers back at your ship. You just managed to flip your plan just in time to avoid being hit with the rapidly fired lasers.
“Great! It absorbs power!” Artemis shouted angrily. Both female pilots swerved out of the way from lasers as the cube continued to relentlessly fire at them.
“Apollo, get me a weakness!” You exclaimed over the comm.
“Trying.”
“Artemis, fall back so Apollo can figure it out.” Nexus sighed in frustration and pouted. She came out for a fight and now-! “AH!” She screamed out again when a large vessel flew past her, nearly clipping the end of her right wing.
Gemini gasped, “Oh my stars...I-Its…”
“Is that-?”
“It’s Voltron!”
The four Valkyrie’s stared at the robot in awe.
“So it’s true…” You breathed.
They all watched as Voltron tried to fight off the cube, but the Paladins had yet to realize the cube’s power as they used one of the robot’s special powers to try and defeat the weaponry. Not even a moment later did the cube retaliate with its own power and the mighty robot was thrown to the ground like a rag doll.

“Ouch!” The Paladins yelped from the hard landing.
“You all alright?!” Shrio asked through the comms. He sighed in relief when he got responses back. “Good! Now let’s: Form Sword!”
______________________________
The Valkyries watched Voltron summon its sword and slice the cube straight down the middle.
“T-that couldn't have worked...right??” There were now two cubes floating. The pair flashed a blinding light, before returning to their black and purple coloring.
“It can split up?!” Nexus shrieked in the comms.
“Weakness! Now!” You commanded.
“We’re trying!” Ishoël answered back.
Voltron retaliated and sliced the cubes through the middle, but their victory didn't last long as now four cubes flashed and came back online. They began to surround Voltron and fire their lasers at the large robot.
Voltron used its shield to deflect the lasers, but in no time the robot had difficulty protecting all its sides from the four fierce cubes, and eventually, the robot separated into five individual lions.
“I’m going in!” You punched your right throttle forward, your ship lurched back into the fray.
“Finally!” Artemis cackled and followed you in.
You flew past one of the cubes that chased after the red lion, instantly gaining the cube’s attention. The cube fired its lasers at your plane, but you were quicker.
With both throttles, you maneuvered your plane into summersault to avoid the lasers. Upside down, but leveled you fire your lasers against a second cube that was relentless upon the black lion. You swerved your plane to avoid colliding with the weakened lion robot, but now you had two cubes chasing you.
"T-there's no weakness!" Gemini stuttered through the comm link.
"What do you mean there’s no weakness?!" Artemis screeched as she did the same flip maneuver to save the blue lion.
"The cubes were made by the Olkari, they make their tech flawless with no abnormality. No matter who or what the weapon is for.” Apollo piped up.
To make matters worse, the green lion was shot down by a cube. Its mechanical cat body rocketed back into the tall forest.
“Ah!” Artemis grunted when a rogue laser struck the tip of her X-wing. “Oh no you didn’t!!” She roared in anger and fired upon the third cube. The Valkyries’ lasers did nothing to the four cubes, but with all chasing the pair, the beaten-up Voltron lions sat out and tried to recuperate.
______________________________
"What are they doing?!" Keith grunted out as he and the rest of the Paladins watched as the Valkyries played tag with the cubes. Pidge had been shot down and was unresponsive and now these strange planes were doing another reckless thing!
"I don't know, but that is probably the best piloting skills I have ever seen," Shiro stated in awe as the two planes dodged and spun away from the array of lasers.
Keith and Lance pursed their lips, mainly the latter. Both thought their flying skills were exceptional, yet only to get shown up by a group of mystery pilots.
"They can't hold on much longer," Keith said as the purple-painted Valkyrie had smoke trailing out its wings.
"We gotta get back in there!" Hunk exclaimed as he and the paladins moved to enter back into the field.
"Guys, hang on!"
"Pidge!"
______________________________
"I can't keep this up all day, miss leader!" Artemis clenched her teeth as she dove into another nosedive. She winced again when another laser shaved off a piece of metal from her laser cannon.
As much as you never wanted to admit defeat and raise a white flag of surrender, you couldn’t help but agree. Sweat had built around your temples and your knuckles began to throb from how tight you squeezed the throttles.
Would this be it?? Would you and Artemis be shot down because these stupid cubes couldn’t be defeated?? Would this be the end of the Geidi Prime Valkyries??
“Got ya!” Pidge cheered in victory as she shot a large bright green laser at one of the cube’s on Artemis’ tail. The laser hit the second cube, causing the glowing purple lights to turn green for a moment before an army of vines erupted from the center of the cube. The long, heavy vines coiled around the edges of the cube and the Galra weapon fell out of the sky.
The second cube left Artemis and chased after the green lion, but Pidge was ready. The lion simply spun around and aimed its newly formed cannon at the cubes.
“Aw come on!” Artemis whined. “He just stole my thunder!” She pouted, hands loose on the throttles now that the enemy was off her six.
“Want some of mine then?!” You grunted out as you spun your ship into a tight freefall. You could feel your seat growing hot and on your screen, the left bottom engine began to illuminate orange.
“Luna!” Artemis punched her ship back into gear and intercepted the second cube trailing you.
It felt like you were back to square one with cubes following both planes. "Thanks, Artemis! Now, let's line it up for him!"
Both Valkyries did one last aerial flip; You pulled up from low in the air and flipped upside down again. Artemis did the same, coming from high above.
You both grinned up at one another through your cockpits as you passed each other. Green lasers came from the side and shot at the final cubes.
You sighed out in exhaustion and relief, while Artemis did flips and spirals as she whooped and cheered.
“Did you see that flip?! I’ve never flown upside before!” She cheered.
“Very impressive, sister.”
“Nice job, Artemis!”
“Watch out, Luna! I’m on my way to steal your wings!”
You rolled your eyes in amusement. “Whatever you say, Artemis.”
Gemini came through the comm links again. "Information has been extracted, and the Olkari are invading. All Galra ships are fleeing."
“Roger that, Gemini. Let's go, Artemis." Both Valkyries turned their planes toward the Galra base and cruised off. The Voltron lions followed close behind.
The blue lion appeared at Artemis' side and started to pull ahead. The pilot narrowed her eyes, he wasn’t....was he?
Artemis smirked before hitting her thrusters, leaving the blue lion in her dust.
Lance blinked in confusion before gaining a smirk of his own. “A race, huh? Not on our watch! Let's hit it, Blue!”
"I want to thank you and the rest of your team." Ryner shook Nova and Ishoël’s hands in gratitude.
"We're just doing our duty to the galaxy!" Ishoël grinned before the three of them turned their attention toward the sky. They blinked to avoid dust flying in their eyes as two Valkyrie ships and five Voltron lions landed.
Nova and Ishoël rushed up to the x-wing fighter planes; Ishoël looked like a goofball as she ran with her arms high in greeting. Nova simply followed behind her with a small smile.
The Voltron Paladins rushed out of their own lions to properly meet the Giedi Prime Valkyries. Their attention went from the planes towards the two people on the ground, all of them gasped when they spotted a human girl with dark blue hair tied in a low ponytail that hung loosely on her shoulder, a pair of goggles sat on her head, and tool belt hanging loosely from her hips.
But what surprised the Paladins was the- “Galra!” Keith snarled as he pulled out his bayard. He charged at the tall Galra female with his teammates right on his heels with their own bayards.
The pilot of the purple Valkyrie plane hopped out of her cockpit and landed in between the red paladin and her own teammates.
The Paladins, minus the raging red, were surprised she made such a landing from that height without injury. “Hold your horses, tomato head!” The pilot shouted as she held her hands up and peeled off her helmet.
And it was like slow motion.
The pilot was female and looked nearly identical to other on the ground. Identical twins, they all presumed. But half of the pilot’s head was shaved down with the other half being a sweaty, windswept mess.
Hunk snorted, “Tomato head.” Keith snarled at him.
Lance was all goo-goo eyes and hearts.
“What's going on here?” Their attention turned to the new voice.
And it was like slow motion.
You approached the group and peeled off your helmet. Your long bubblegum pink hair spilled out of the helmet and down her back in a high ponytail. You looked between both groups for answers.
“Just another Galra mistake, Luna,” Ishoël answered with a wave of dismissal. Her fluffy purple ears flicked as she smiled shyly, showing off her sharp, pearly white fangs. Her golden eyes turned into little crescent moons with her adorable smile.
The black paladin cleared his throat and stepped forward. He took off his helmet to show peace.
And it was like slow motion.
He was tall, handsome, and boy were his gray eyes pretty. His hair was jet black except for the tuft of white that hung into his eyes. A long, jagged pink scar covered his nose, but to you, it made him even more interesting.
Nova elbowed you out of your daydream.
“We’re sorry for our mistake. I-I’m sure you can understand why-”
“Please don’t worry about it. I’m well aware of what my people are doing. You don’t need to apologize.” Ishoël waved off his apology.
“Ishoël, you’re such a saint.” You cooed as you stepped beside her and wrapped your arms around her forearms. She was too tall to properly wrap your arms around her neck.
“You work with a Galra?” Keith couldn’t believe his eyes.
Hunk, Lance, and Pidge had taken off their helmets and sheathed their bayards; Keith hesitated for a moment before following his team.
“There are many Galras that don’t follow the regime. We have lots of Galran refugees in our ranks.” You answered simply. Nexus nodded firmly with her arms crossed, she shot a stink eye on the red paladin.
Your small smile dropped into immense surprise when the green paladin launched herself at your face. Stars had replaced Pidge’s eyes and she stared up at your squad as if you were royalty. “On Geidi Prime right?? We’ve only heard about your planet here and there, but actually seeing you guys in action! Your planes are gorgeous by the way! They’re technological masterpieces and the engines and laser canons- WOW!” Her team also had looks of surprise, never had they seen Pidge fangirl so hard.
Nova stepped forward and- “Thank you! Finally, someone appreciates all my hard work!” The Valkyries matched the Paladins’ shock as they watched their tech wizard come out of her shell and speak so happily.
“You made them?!”
Nova nodded with a loud hum.
“That’s AMAZING! I have to see the technological advancements and mechanisms you guys have!”
Stars floated around the pair.
“Of course!” Nova took Pidge by her wrist and dragged her towards Nexus’ beaten plane.
The two battle squads continued to watch the pair with wide eyes and gobsmacked.
“Guess Nova’s found a new friend,” Ishoël commented.
Nexus flushed pink with jealousy and marched over to her plane, angrily grumbling about how no one will steal her twin away from her.
Lance slinked up next to you and Ishoël with his usual cheesy smirk. “So what’re your guys’ names?”
Ishoël smiled with her fangs again. “My name is Ishoël. Nova took off with your friend and Nexus is her twin.” She pointed over to the plane with the purple-painted pinstripe.
“ ‘Nexus’, huh?” He slicked back his short brown hair and readjusted his blue and white chest piece. “I can work with that.” He strutted off confidently towards the older twin.
The remaining Valkyries watched him go with surprise.
“Ignore him.” Shiro huffed in amusement and annoyance.
“That’s Lance, our resident flirt,” Hunk answered with a snort.
“He’s terrible at it though.” Keith rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
“So, there’s Lance, Pidge was stolen by your friend, this is Hunk and Keith.” He introduced the yellow and red paladins at his side. “And I’m Shiro. You are?”
Ishoël pinched your side so you wouldn’t sigh out the black paladin’s name like some love-sick fool. You cleared your throat and swallowed down the butterflies. Good thing Ishoël was good at reading you. “Captain (Y/n) of the Geidi Prime Valkyrie Squadron, a multi-awarded Ace and one of the leading generals for the resistance~”
You grew pink as your hair at Ishoël’s words. She didn’t have to give your full title!
Shiro stepped forward and held out his hand. “Pleasure to make your acquaintance. I’m eager to work with you in the future to liberate the universe from the Galra Empire.”
You smiled and grabbed his hand. “Let’s go end a war.”
