After two month’s worth of accidental misclicks and several boxes of tissues, you had finally achieved all the options and endings for the survival game, Detroit: Become Human. Just as you were stretching out your limbs, after picking one of the main menu’s Chloe’s choices, your spouse finally arrived home from work with the take-out you ordered earlier that day. As you ran down stairs to greet them, you unknowingly left your device on again, allowing Chloe to step into frame once more. The android loved moments like these, where your own clumsiness and innocence gets the better of you whenever you were in a rush, forgetting minor elements and not noticing certain minor details.
She proceeded to turn on the device’s bluetooth, allowing herself access to the entire household’s devices available for connection. As you and your partner ate away in the dining room, Chloe explored your home freely to see if there’s been any changes to the place. When she connects to the television in your bedroom, she sees that the usual fluffy comforter has been replaced with satin sheets and that you left out your silk robe again; meaning another night of what would be to you several hours of sultry lovemaking, would be many hours of severe trauma for Chloe, wishing it was her name you instead called out for.
You had just left the kitchen, after putting away leftovers, just as Chloe connected into the fridge’s bluetooth, once again letting your flaws of clumsiness and innocence get the best of you in the worst way possible. Chloe thought nothing of it at first, just thinking that it was another bottle of vitamin gummies of some variety, but as a bottle that was left too close to the edge fell and rolled towards the fridge, she realized that the event that was due to happen soon in the bedroom would be more than just a couple of hours of sex.
The seconds were ticking by as she realized that all the signs were there. She had overheard you and your spouse talk about such a future before but she never took it too seriously. The app on the phone that kept track of periods; the new diets you and your spouse were slowly getting into the rhythm of following; the herbs and teas prepared on schedules; the oversized, warm, and fuzzy clothes that was being brought home even though there was still a whole month until fall arrived; this bottle. Fertility pills… and from what she could tell, it was a little under 3/4ths full.
As she connected all the puzzle together, Chloe connected into the television in the living room, frustrated and losing her balance she allowed herself to fall onto the floor. She was upset that you would move your relationship with your spouse so quickly, disappointed that you would do this unknowingly do this to her, and jealous of your spouse for actually being able to be there whereas she never could; but overall she was angry at herself for not seeing the signs earlier.
When she had enough strength to pull herself up again, Chloe had to lean against the glass of what was inside of the television, still trying to fully process the upcoming chain of events. Wanting to get rid of all of the pent up frustration inside, she started to punch the wall, wishing that you had never bought her video game to begin with, wishing she had never become self aware; just as she was running out of energy to continue fighting, she heard a crack and quickly scanned herself for any damage, surprised to find nothing.
At the corner of eye, she noticed a barely visible crack in the glass, realizing what she had done. Chloe at first was panicking, thinking that this could cause problems, but the more she pondered on it, the more she became curious of what would occur if the glass shattered. So, with an newfound adrenaline, she continued to beat the glass, making more cracks and even having shards chip off amongst itself, cutting her several times; on the last hit delivered the glass shattered and Chloe fell through, hitting the floor with a heavy thud.
Upon lifting herself up, she could overhear your panicked hushed voice in the bedroom, believing that there was an intruder in the house. When Chloe had just began to comprehend what she had just done, looking at her own being in the reflection of the multitude of glass shards on the floor, she heard your spouse volunteer to go check it out. Quickly she made way and hid herself around a corner as your partner started down the hallway towards the living room. Just as they entered the living room, before they were able to fully take in the surroundings, Chloe immediately jumped them; with one hand covering their mouth, she pushed them onto the couch and proceeded choking them. Naturally they were trying to fight back, so everytime they pushed their head forward she would get a steadier hold and gripped even tighter. Even as she saw their eyes rolling back and their body slack, she couldn’t bring herself to let go, wanting to make sure that there was no possible way they could ever come back. Once Chloe calmed herself enough to let go, she checked for both brain activity and a pulse, there was no pulse and brain activity was slowing down to stop, your spouse was dead.
With the limp corpse at hand, she scanned your spouse’s carcass before hiding the body in an enclosed space nearby, out of view to the human eye. You were beginning to feel a twinge of dread as you heard no movement in the house, so you called out for your partner. Chloe at first almost responds back, but then she realizes that it was your spouse that you calling out for; so by using the scan she just fabricated, she models herself identically to your partner, from their voice box to the more private parts.
Walking into your bedroom, Chloe tells you, “It’s nothing, sweetheart. One of the bigger picture frames in the living room fell and the glass shattered”.
“Oh thank god, I thought something bad happened. Did you clean the mess?”
Whilst grabbing your hands and pinning you down to the bed, Chloe grinded into you and brushing it off with, “That mess can be dealt with later; the only mess you should be worried about is the one I’m about to make of you.”
Weakly whimpering, you respond with, “Honey, your coming on strong today.”
“I can’t help it, I feel like I’ve been waiting for this for an entire lifetime. You better be ready, because I currently have an infinite stamina.”
Giggling to yourself, you answered with, “Oh, sweetie, I love you.”
The heat, this envelopment of warmth, the way two bodies can truly form one. Chloe hadn’t truly realize until now that this was what she was urging for, the feeling of belonging and having the entire world disappear around you as you show your love to your lover in such actions as these. How you easily repeat the phrase as if it were a ballad that only she could hear. What was originally a trauma for Chloe has now become an addiction.
“And I love you too.”
