So I’ve not been around for a lot but I need to say something about the current debate going around.
I have watched, for the past year and a half or so, as people have written fanfics that made use of Meditations (whether reading from it or James giving it to someone who is not a Hamilton, usually romantically, or someone finding it so someone could find out James loved a man), “know no shame,” and other themes that were used for flinthamilton/flinthamiltons. I have watched hundreds of posts and gifsets go by celebrating how other pairings were paralleling James/Thomas and thus was proving their ship to be romantic and for quite awhile, it felt like James/Thomas was only being used to prove other people’s ships. I’ve watched as people have talked about how other characters are James’ new “Thomas” or “Miranda.” And it felt horrible.
But I never said anything, because I knew that even though I didn’t like it, people had a right to do those things. And that the writers like using parallels a lot, and you can find parallels between most characters and ships, so it wasn’t like people were doing something wrong by pointing it out.
My point is this: stop shoving your interpretation of things down other people’s throats. If you feel very strongly that dream Miranda was talking about Silver when she said “you are not alone,” then good!~ Great! Go with you! But not everyone feels that way, and it is not 100% clear who or what she is talking about (even if to you it is). Even Toby felt it wasn’t about anyone in specific:

I get how shitty it feels when you feel like people are trying to (intentionally or not) overwrite something you really care about. But certain characters and ships and themes overlap in the show, and it is not a sin to explore other possibilities or meanings to things.
