happy pride from the mods!

Hey guys!! Mod Brit here! So it’s June and most of you guys know that June is also pride month; to celebrate this wonderful month and our beloved boys, i decided to make a couple of pride flag edits! woo! 

i made these edits with my specific head canons and thoughts but these are just my opinion! And I’ve even included a small explanation section under each one. please feel free to discuss them in the re-blogs and replies but please be respectful of one another! we’re all friends here xx

(also i found all of these flags on the Wikipedia flags for the sexualities/genders used! except for the bi flag, i had to make that myself cause i couldn’t find a good quality pic of the bi flag for ro fjkdsl)

1. Roman  

Flag: Bisexual

Explanation: “I’m currently...between princes and princesses. I am on a solo quest to help save myself for right now!”

As a bisexual girl myself, I personally see a lot of myself in roman but this quote here is what made me think of him! So this quote of course was said in a video prior to Thomas’ ‘official’ coming out Pride video, but i always thought of roman as bi purely because I identify so heavily with him. Also he’s my favorite boy!

2. Virgil

Flags: Demisexual and Gay

Explanation: “I’m shooting straight, even though I’m gay!”

While thinking about which flags i could use for Virgil, I thought demisexual was a good fit! i thought that Virgil would be the kind of person who would really like to get to know someone first before committing their heart to them. He always seemed to me like someone who would rather dip their toe into the pool first before getting in.

3. Patton

Flags: Trans and Pan

explanation: “I love you all so much!”

So when i came up with this one, I mostly just thought Patton seems like an all-loving kind of person which I thought would make him a good fit for the pan flag! And as for the trans flag, this one comes mainly from some inspiration I’ve seen whilst going through the Patton tag and looking at people that I follow! And it just seemed to fit so i decided to give it to him <3

4. Logan

Flags: Demisexual and Gay 

explanation: (i couldn’t find a quote i liked enough for logan but here is the boy!)

So I was having a bit of trouble coming up with a flag for Logan so i asked my fellow mods (thank u guys uwu) for some help and they came through! Personally, Demisexual appears to fit because he doesn’t seem like the person to put his heart before his brain. As a logical person, he likes to consider all logical possibilities to a situation and I think for him, he thinks the same way about relationships and love!

5. Deceit

Flags: Non-binary 

explanation: (i couldn’t find a quote for snake boy either :( but here he is!!!)

So deceit is mod wheat’s favorite (and who could blame them? look at him!!) and they asked that I make deceit’s pride flag the non-binary one! After thinking about it for a bit, i realized i couldn’t find another fit for our snake boy so thanks mod wheat for helping me w this one too <3 also don’t the colors just fit really well???

1. Thomas Updates

Thomas recently uploaded a video to his twitter of him getting tackled and smothered with love by the cutest dog and it was........too cute. If you’re looking for a giggle or something to feel good about, go check it out! Also Sleep (lovingly known to many as ‘Remy’) was featured in a new short and he was being a sassy young boy as always (even with a bit of backstory!! the intrigue!! the drama!!!) I am a FAN.

Thomas ALSO uploaded a new #FanartFriday on his Instagram and it was chock-full of amazing art!!!! If you got featured, let us know and congrats!! <3 

2. Fandom Updates

There have been a lot of people in the fandom embracing Remus recently and I’m here for it! As a person who likes his character (not so much what he represents but him as a Being), it makes me happy cause I just think he’s super interesting. It’s also fun to see so many people’s art interpretations and cosplays of him! Also seeing angsty fics with him popping up and wreaking havoc is way fun. Keep up the good work guys!

A lot of people have also been talking about the possible Orange Side that might be featured (if we are assuming that Thomas is following the colours of the rainbow). What are your theories as to what the Orange Side will be? 

3. Theory Discussion

The theory that I wanted to talk about this week was created by @the-office-cat and it doesn’t really have a name (if it does, I’m sorry!! pls correct me and I’ll edit this post!) but I liked it so I’ll be talking about it!

The theory is that the pain that Remus causes the other sides is only as strong as their fear for him. Tumblr user the-office-cat uses Logan being continuously attacked by Remus vs Roman being knocked out by him for the whole episode as an example here. Logan showed absolutely no fear towards Remus towards the entire video which is why Remus’ attacks (the shuriken in the eye and the teeth thing) had little to no effect on him. However, after Roman woke up, we get to see that he does not like talking about Remus and has a lot of resentment towards him - which could be read as fear - which could explain why he was knocked out for a whole episode. 

Overall I really love this theory bc it just brings a whole lot of depth to Remus’ character and his interactions with the other sides! It’s super interesting too!! If you have any thoughts about it, let us know!

5. Other Things That Happened This Week

Um apparently scientists have found a breed of shark that is a) really small (the article describes it as POCKET SIZED) and b) glows in the dark???? I love sharks so much guys so this is AMAZING news to me!! 

In mod related news, Mod Wheat has just moved into a new place (a few weeks ago) and STILL does not have a toaster!!! 

In MORE mod related news, my theatre troupe at my uni has just announced that they’re doing Pippin in the fall and yh girl is gonna audition after the summer when the semester starts! 

According to Thomas’ twitter, Terrence got cast in a musical called Violet! He’s playing a character named Flick and the musical is running in Savannah!! Much love to Terrence!!!

Vid Review Wednesday!!

Hi guys! Welcome to another video review!! I know it’s technically not a Wednesday but I wanted to get this out to you guys since Thomas dropped a new video last week - I wanted to share my thoughts with you all!

Video Review Wednesday: Dealing with INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS | Sanders Sides

So I’ve already seen a ton of discussion about the new video online but I thought that I’d offer my two cents since no one’s opinion is going to be the same from each others! 

First of all, I wanna say that as a production, this video was so, so impressive. Like every single person on Thomas’ team worked so hard on this new video to bring us new graphics, new costumes, new characters, a SONG, and new content to play with! That is an amazing feat in itself and it truly speaks to Thomas’ growth as a creator <3 

Second of all, I just wanna say this: I was thoroughly entertained and horrified. Throughout the entirety of the video I just kept imagine Virgil, Thomas, Logan, Patton, and Remus all having a casual discussion whilst Roman is just.....passed out face down on the floor. Like, did y’all not wanna try and wake the boy? 

The early allusions to Roman and Remus’ brotherly relationship was super interesting to me - not to mention their matching names. As a person with siblings, a writer, AND a Roman stan, giving Roman a whole ass brother was just *kisses hand*.

Now, let’s talk about Logan. Logan...was so good in this episode. He was phenomenal. Whereas Virgil and Patton showed slightly more biased opinions (Something that I thought we also saw in the previous video with Deceit) regarding the ‘Dark Sides’, Logan’s analysis of the situation and his method of helping Thomas was just so amazing to me. He was honestly giving out “Caring schoolteacher who knows you’re going through a hard time and tries his best to genuinely help you” vibes to me. 

I noticed that Virgil and Patton have very black and white definitions as to what makes a “good person” which I think makes sense for their characters. Patton is supposed to represent morality, a literal sense of right and wrong and good and bad - so it makes sense to me that he would have very strong opinions about Thomas’ behaviour. 

Virgil however has been on the receiving end of such antagonism and, in my opinion, could be overcompensating? Perhaps in his attempt to prove to the others that he’s good now and that he is trying to change and he’s ‘not always the bad guy’, he is pushing Thomas slightly too far in the only definition of “good” that he knows - which is Patton. 

And finally: Remus. The glorious trash king rat bastard himself. I think as a character, he is absolutely amazing. There’s so much to unpack when it comes to him, right down to his character aesthetic, his accent, his backstory, and his purpose when it comes to Thomas and how Thomas functions. I also am so intrigued about his relationship with Deceit and just how he thinks in general. 

Him giving away his name at their first meeting could’ve been an attempt to antagonise Virgil, especially with the way that he looked at Virgil after saying it, but I thought that it also showed a lot about him. Like Roman, he is desperate for attention (but maybe not validation to the extent that Roman is). Perhaps him revealing his name right from the get-go is him trying to outshine the others and stand out as different and important to Thomas and his wellbeing.

I haven’t touched base on everything that I could’ve talked about and wanted to talk about but these were my initial thoughts!

End Card 

Thomas is attempting to go through his night and get ready to go to sleep but Remus shows up in the darndest places, munching on a stick of deodorant.

I thought it was incredibly well done and tied into the overlying theme and moral of the story completely. With intrusive thoughts, sometimes all you can do is ignore them and hope that they’ll pass - try and distract yourself with tasks so that you don’t think about the glaring thing in the corner eating a stick of deodorant. I loved it and thought it was so poignant.

Stray Thoughts 

I’m a slut for Roman and I thought there wasn’t enough Roman in it - although I GUESS I get that his being unconscious is an integral part of the video. I’m very excited for his arc, I can see it coming in the horizon. My body will not be able to handle it.

Video Review Wednesday

Hi guys! Welcome back to another video review!! Today we’re gonna be reviewing one of my favourite Sanders Sides episodes! Forgive me if this is slightly short it’s late and i’m sleepy!

So this is an early one and one of my personal favourites and it is 90% because of the Prinxiety content in it. 

This one is essentially a long discussion between the boys about how Thomas is going to obtain a Valentine for this year and how getting a Valentine is often really difficult. 

I really love the more laidback episodes where it’s just a little discussion without any big feathers or bows! It just seems a lot more organic and chill for me, something very easy to watch. With that being said though, I still love each and every episode made AND I just appreciate all the effort that’s gone into the newer episodes!

On a personal note, this video is very special to me because it’s the video that really launched me into the fandom! I’d watched the first Sanders Sides video that Thomas made (back before the Sanders Sides branding) and I enjoyed it but I also didn’t really stick around - I was sort of watching Thomas casually at that point. However, after watching this video I just thought the jokes really hit and the acting was super good! And the concept really interested me and that’s sort of what really led to me being here today so wow!!

Another thing, this video is one of the first Sanders Sides episode in which ‘Anxiety’ isn’t played as a total villain. He actually provides Thomas with some good and healthy advice for being ‘alone’ on Valentine’s Day and that softens my lil heart because it was the beginning of a change I think!

Now, of course all of my boys were fantastic in this episode but I HAVE to talk about the amount of Roman and Virgil content there was in this video, as the resident Prinxiety slut around these parts. 

Roman calling Virgil ‘Hot Topic’? Virgil flirtily replying with “Aw, you think I’m hot.”? UGH. This was the beginning of my obsession. I just love it because it just screamed romantic tension to me. I’m really into the whole enemies to friends to lovers trope and this just solidified the ship for me.

One last thing, an extra bonus was that I love Valerie!! She’s one of my favourite frequent friend guests of Thomas’ cause I think she’s just so pretty and talented and she has an amazing energy so watching all the sides interacting with her just made my little heart happy. I particularly enjoyed the Roman speaking Spanish scene and the scene where Patton gives Valerie a little drawing <3

End Card

Oh boy...Oh my god...this end card...

The end card is essentially Virgil saying that he could’ve made Valerie swoon better than any of the other sides and Patton wants him to prove it. Virgil then explains that first, you have to take your partner by the hand, and then it’s revealed that he’s actually been holding Roman’s hand the entire Goddamn time.

UGH. This end card is just...*chef kiss* I love it. Thank you for the top notch Prinxiety content, Thomas, 10/10

I’m sure you can all guess that this episode is what stemmed my love for Prinxiety and Roman in particular! I just think this episode is really cute and sweet and funny, it made me laugh so, so hard when I first watched it!

Fanfic Friday

Hey it’s ya boy Mod Brit here again with a lit fanfic Friday! I’m gonna stop talking like that now jfdklsf

Today’s fic is one that I read recently written by @youre-lazy-and-youre-gay0-0​!!

So two things i’m soft for: prinxiety and little kids (as a teacher it fills me with such joy!!) and this fic has both of those things! 

The brotherly relationship between Virgil and Patton is just so cute and I love it. Bb patton is one of my favourite things at the moment (one of my fic series’ contains bb patton!!) and in this fic, he’s PEAK ADORABLE!

One thing that I really liked in this fic was that the author managed to keep every side true to their personality which I think is hard during human au’s. But her characterization is just really good w/ Virgil being the surly and protective older brother and Roman being a soft-hearted cop neglecting his responsibilities to stay true to what he knows is right.

UGH this fic makes me soft as hell.

My favourite bit was the part where Roman meets Patton and Patton immediately trusts and feels comfortable around him, it’s SO CUTE. 

Also the end scene where Roman walks Virgil and Patton home and Virgil kisses his cheek? 10/10, now this is what I call good cinema. 

Overall, a really cute and wholesome fic!! Great job!!!!!!!! Go read it!

1. Thomas Twitter/General Updates

The new episode of sanders sides is apparently coming out tomorrow so GET HYPED! Apparently this one will be containing a content warning so be advised and take care of yourselves y’all! Anyone have any theories as to what the new episode is gonna be???

Also we haven’t talked about this on the blog yet but last week, youtuber Daniel Howell came out!! Yay!! I saw some supportive tweets from youtubers (including Thomas!) all over Twitter and Instagram and as a long time supporter of Dan, it was really heartwarming <3 congratulations dan!

2. Fandom Updates

Everyone is still really jazzed about pride which is awesome!! And I’ve seen some amazing prinxiety art floating around the fandom tags which has made me (#1 prinxiety shipper) very happy. Also incorrect quote memes are popular as ever and they’re always very amusing to see!

It seems like a lot of people (including our fabulous mod wheat) are getting into good omens which is great! I haven’t watched it but i’ve loved david tennant since the tenth doctor days so i’m sure it’s amazing. Some top notch gay shit I’m here for it. 

Deceit has been getting a lot of love!! He deserves it, our precious snake lizard man. I love him. That’s it for fandom updates!

3. Theory Discussion

Today’s theory is a personal favourite of mine! Pride!Roman! This one is based on @dreamsshadowwashere‘s ficlet about Roman being a secret dark side!! 

Since Thomas introduced Deceit to the Sanders Sides sphere, there’s been a debate about the dark sides. Does every side have a ‘dark’ counterpart? Or are they completely separate entities? And of course with this discussion comes angst and many theories!! 

The pride roman theory based off of the original fic is essentially Roman is a dark side and has been keeping this from the other 3 and only Deceit is the one who knows. 

Now personally, I think this is a refreshing flip from the ‘Virgil being a dark side' theory although that one still holds a special place in my heart! There are of course reasons to dispute this: Such as the end-card scene at the end of the Halloween-Christmas episode in which Deceit pops up in Virgil’s room, as well as Virgil and Deceit’s already quite developed relationship. 

But, I think that Roman is an actor first - right? He would want to keep his secret from the others for as long as he possibly could in fear of rejection (what he stated was his biggest fear in MY TRUE IDENTITY). 

My Opinion:

Well, idk if y’all know this but i’m a GLUTTON for Roman content - any and all of it - so personally I really love this theory! It gives his character a lot of depth and PAIN which i’m obsessed with. What do you guys think though?

4. Other Things That Happened In The World

You may not know this but I’m from Hong Kong and if y’all have been watching any international news lately, you may have noticed that some very serious political protests have been happening over the past couple of weeks. Young and old Hong Kongers are protesting against the government who are trying to pass the extradition bill, a bill which would allow law enforcement in China to seek out and arrest people in Hong Kong for ‘felonies’ - basically taking away our right to free speech and putting all of us in danger.

Without putting a damper on things, I just want to say: I am proud of my people. I am proud of my generation and generations older and smaller who are taking a stand and fighting for what’s right. There were 2 million people at the protest on Sunday (nearly a third of the population!) making sure our voice was heard. All I can say is: 加油香港！
