House of Soundwaves?
All Soundwaves from every continuity living in a single house as a dysfunctional family of some sort
It has to be a damm huge house because of all the cassettes each ‘Waves have. Yes, I’m looking at G1(also IDW? Or these two are seperate entities where IDW is cousin of G1?) Soundwave.
Speaking of him, this guy somehow manages to run the entire household in optimal condition while looking after his cassette-kids + other Soundwaves’ cassette-kids at the same time. Ultimate daddy of the Soundwave household, I must say.
For some weird reason I believe TFA Soundwave would be the “teenager-in-phase” of the group who listens to Evanescence and Linkin Park all day. He even composed his own “edgey songs”. Strangely, this dude often hangs around with Rumble and Frenzy as their big brother figure and sometimes gets into trouble with the twins instead of preventing them from it like he is supposed to.
Prime Soundwave ends up doing most of the house chores for some reason, but he remains ever so silent about it so nobody knows if he’s complaining or doesn’t mind that much. He’s the ‘chill dude’ of the house I mean Soundwaves are already pretty chill but still who will sometimes take the Mama role when G1 is not available for some reason.
Soundwaves taking turns looking after each others’ cassettes for a day or something. G1 is obviously the best at this, while TFA might have some trouble since he's quite young compared to others
And right across their mansion lives a ragtag family made of Starscreams. They are shitty neighbors. Ravages take turns in messing up their dumpster or ruining their garden.
Honestly, Mirage reads very much as Jazz. Not sure why they didn't go with him, tbh. But yeah, this Mirage seems very.. idk. In G1 (or at least popular fanon, I've only watched the first two seasons and that was years ago) he's a bit more emotionally distant. I think he was a noble back on Cybertron? He seems more open in the trailers.
That's exactly what I thought as soon as I heard him speak. I wondered why they didn't just make him Jazz, because that voice line, the way he fist-bumped the human, it definitely carried casual, confident attitude that screamed 'Jazz' all over it. I had this suspicion ever since I saw his alt mode, but now I'm 100% sure he was supposed to be Jazz but had his nametag switched around for some reason. They've already pulled the same bullscrap on Blitzwing in Bumblebee movie, if I remember correctly.
Although I kind of understand why they didn't choose Jazz, because he is closer to 'cool uncle figure' than 'perky young Autobot warrior'. There's definitely the element of maturity/seasoned soldier to his general character trait that makes him less appealing candidate for Bumblebee substitute...
... but then they somehow thought Mirage was okay, who also have seasoned soldier vibe on top of being significatly less friendly towards human culture or Earth. Yes, he's also less friendly towards anyone in general, as you mentioned how emotionally closed off he is.
Imagine the character potential. A WW1 soldier, the lone survivor of his now-gone noble house and possibly his entire country, who is stuck alone in some bumfuck nowhere filled with primitive civilization of tiny aliens. As he struggles to keep himself alive just one more day in an unfamiliar world constantly hiding from enemies that may or may not be here, his resolve and hope is on the brink of being lost... until he makes an amateur mistake and reveals himself to an unspecting human one day. Accidents, adventure, and tomfoolery ensues, and as the companionship between the human grows over time so does his will to fight on.
There had been so many 'relatable human character and cool robot sidekick' dynamics. When I saw Mirage's name on the roster, I thought perhaps I could expect somthing that was other way round. I still can't tell anything for sure from just trailers, but I fear that we're getting blue Bumblebee/young Jazz for protagonist for this movie. While there is a slim chance that his character would turn out to be much better and complex than that, I suppose we won't get to see any trace of his G1 self in character-wise.
Still unsure how to feel about ROTB Mirage
Don't get me wrong, I like this guy. He's cool, and I look forward to see more of him on screen. But I still think there's something about him that doesn't click with the name 'Mirage'. Idk how to put this in words, but he's just... not...
Brand new interpretation of characters is always welcome, as long as there are actual 'interpretation' happening there. I think the writers didn't want actual 'Mirage' to be there, but rather just anyone who could replace Bumblebee. For someone who was really excited to see lesser known tf characters taking the main role, this doesn't feel okay.
If the writers really wanted a kid-appeal main other than Bumblebee, perhaps Hot Rod would have been a better choice? Or better yet Smokescreen? Someone like TFP Smokescreen sounds alright to me. If they wanted the hologram powers thing, even Hound could have been a choice to consider if you think about the G1 version.
Still, it's impossible to judge a character from just 30 sec clip. ROTB Mirage could be much more interesting than what's shown on the clip. I really need to see this movie to know it for sure. Who knows? I might actually end up liking him even more.
Hey there little dude! How ya holding up! You um you ok????
*incoherent noise that roughly translates to "EARTHSPARK GOOD"*
I swear I'm still working on that Seeker comic thing
tfw you tell an AI to draw a Cliffjumper and it gives you a Bumblebee(?) instead
Gave up rigging that TFMR Starscream thing because somehow stuff didn’t work out. So I tried making a simple “protoform” and rigged it for practice.
It looks crappy for now, but once I figure out how robot joints work I may be able to model and rig all the characters........
...... and perhaps animate them too?
