Can someone do something where Makoto goes back in time to save everyone from their fates in the first game? Or if that's too much at the time, can you do something where he just stops the first murder first, and saves both Sayaka and Leon? Thank you!
Well, yes, having the entire game redone to spare all the victims is a bit much for one imagine by one mod…
So that’s why we’re splitting this one up between all the mods. Yes, this imagine will be an ongoing collaboration between all the mods on this blog. And I’ve been tasked with kicking it all off. (And I’m so sorry it took so long to get to!)
That being said, I tend write things a little long (I’d blame the person that taught me what I know about writing, but I respect them too much to do so), which might not be appealing for an imagines blog, so I’ll be splitting up the prologue and the first actual chapter into seperate posts. All that means is that the part you requested about saving Sayaka and Leon will come at a later time.
Hope you don’t mind
You are here. Chapter 1. Chapter 2. Chapter 3. Chapter 4. Chapter 5. Chapter 6.Epilogue.
Return to the Past, Now!
“Well, I guess this is goodbye. …And goodbye…to Sakura. But hey! If we gotta say goodbye, we may as well do it with a smile on our face!”
“Hey, guys! You guys want your fortunes told, anywhere, anytime, you just let me know! I’ll be there!”
“You know how much I hate being annoyed. But if something does come up, you may as well let me know. I can’t guarantee I’ll actually bother listening, but you know…”
“I d-don’t know why, but…I have a b-burning desire to start writing…! I might b-be able to pull it off… A story about M-Master and me! A-And the others, I guess…”
“I can’t say I’m sorry about what happened, but still… It does feel kind of strange…”
“I… don’t really know what to say. I guess we… graduated?”
He looked down at the button he held in his hand, their key to freedom, and held his finger over it.
This was it. He didn’t know what would happen next, whether or not the world had truly fallen or if it was going on as usual, but he was ready to face whatever was waiting for them. They all were.
He pressed the button without any hesitation and let the device clatter to the floor
Sirens blared. Weapons retreated. Metal shook. He felt the leather from a glove brush against his fingers as he stared forward. Nothing took his eyes off the door.
The door rattled violently as it was forced to open. The door separated slowly.
No one moved. No one breathed. They were ready to see the world for what it was.
Light streamed in from the outside, and then…
And then….
And then………
…
…
…
He jolted awake with a start. The chair he was sitting in tipped back slightly as he jumped, forcing him to fumble for something to grab onto. His hands landed on the table in front of him. Grabbing hold of it, he brought both himself and the chair back down onto the ground. He took a deep breath to calm himself and closed his eyes.
“What am I doing here…?” Was the first thought that came to him, groggy as he felt. Last he remembered….
He brought a hand to his head. “Weren’t… weren’t we just escaping, the six of us…?” That was right… He and the others that had survived the twisted “School of Mutual Killing” game were finally getting to leave. So why was he…?
“Where am I anyways…?” He finally opened his eyes again. He had to blink a few times to adjust his eyes to the light in the room.
And then a feeling of horror and dread clutched at his heart and enveloped his entire being.
Desks exactly like the one in front of him surrounded him. A black board with a ghastly drawing of Monokuma was in front of him. Ugly animal print wallpaper covered every wall, and thick metal plates covered the windows around him.
He knew exactly where he was.
His breath hitched as he took in his surroundings. “Why… why am I back in here? Where are the others? Did… did something happen outside…?” The doors had opened… and then what? What happened next? “Am I dreaming or something?” He winced as he pinched himself. “Ok, nope. Not that at least.”
A flash of white fluttered to the ground beside him, breaking him out of his stupor. He glanced at the corner of the desk and watched as a slip of paper fell from it down onto the floor.
“What…?” It took him a moment to remember. “Oh, right. That was there when I woke up the first time…” He stared down at it for a moment. Was it just him or… was there something different about it? He wasn’t sure.
He bent down to pick it up, ready to see the cartoonish “welcome” that had been originally written on it. Bracing himself, he held his breath as he turned it over, He’d seen it before, why was he so anxious about it?
A crude drawing was not what he found.
The crayon drawing of Monokuma was nowhere to be found when he turned to paper over, nor was the chicken scratch of a message originally found on it. Rather, the paper was almost entirely blank, much to his surprise. He felt no white-out on the paper either, which only confused him further. How could such an image just disappear from existence like that? He had no time to dwell on that, however, as another part of the paper caught his eye.
There was only one thing written on the piece of paper now:
‘You have been given a second chance, Makoto Naegi. How you chose to use it is up to you.’
That was the only thing written upon the otherwise blank sheet of paper. It was written in a black ink that seemed to shine the longer he stared at it, almost like it was enchanted or something. And stare at it he did, for he found he couldn’t comprehend this situation. He found himself holding the paper in a tight grasp till his knuckles hurt as he read and reread that one line of text over and over again, until his brain felt like mush.
“Second chance…? What does that even mean?” Had one of the others left this for him? Was it some kind of cryptic message? If so, then what did it mean, and which one of them left it?
And where were they anyways?
He stared down at the pamphlet still held tightly in his grasp. He felt an annoying buzzing in his head. It was starting to make him feel dizzy.
“Maybe… maybe I fainted? And they thought it would be better to wait for me to wake up? Yeah, that’s gotta be it,” he told himself. But something felt… off about that answer. Why would the other survivors leave him in a classroom like that? Still, he had nothing else to go off. “Maybe they’re waiting at the entrance still.”
He gulped, stood up from the desk, and with his legs feeling like lead, trudged out of the classroom towards the entrance, the buzzing in his head thumping just as loudly as his heart.
He has to physically stop himself from screaming when he reaches the entrance to the school. He got one look inside before he had a hand clamped over his mouth and he found himself stumbling back from the door and onto a wall near it.
Inside the entrance, he found his fellow survivors for sure…
As well as 9 others that shouldn’t have been there.
He can’t stop himself from shaking. “N-no… t-this can’t…. no!” He tried to yell out, but it came out more like a whisper. His chest tightened, his hoodie suddenly feeling like a vice. He couldn’t breathe. “Th-this is… it’s…!” He started panting. He tried to move, he really did,, but his legs seemed to stop working. He was frozen in place.
The writing on the paper struck him again. A second chance. He was in the past. It was such an insane idea,
He’d been ready for anything… but not this.
He couldn’t do this again. He didn’t want to do this again. Surviving once was enough. Why him of all people?
“Hey uh… new guy? Are you uh, ok over there?” He heard a voice ask him from inside the entrance. It sounded like… Kuwata? It’d been so long since he’d heard the baseball player that he wasn’t sure. The only memories he had left of his voice were…. unpleasant, to say the least.
He took in a few deep breaths in an attempt to compose himself. It only partially worked. His heart was still beating rapidly as he stepped back into the entrance hall. He tried not to react the many gazes being thrown at him, many of which from people who shouldn’t currently be standing.
He especially tried not to notice how Maizono was staring holes into him.
“Y-yeah, I’m fine,” Naegi answered after a moment, his tone weaker than he would’ve liked. “I just… wasn’t expecting to find other people here.” He rubbed the back of his head awkwardly and shuffled on his feet. “My name’s Makoto Naegi,” he mumbled.
He was silent as Ishimaru yelled at him for his tardiness and only half listening to him at best. He kept his head bowed and muttered a weak apology to him, but it was lost as the conversation moved forward without him. He was too lost in his thoughts to keep up anymore.
Hina once again pitches the idea of introducing themselves (“More like reintroductions,” Naegi can’t help but think sadly), and once again no one protests too much about it.
Introductions are somehow even more awkward than they were the first time. He struggles not to envision the corpse of each person he speaks to that’s supposed to be dead.
“Hi, I’m Sayaka Maizono. I look forward to- er, are you ok, Naegi? You look a little pale?”
“It’s uh, nothing. Don’t worry about it,”
“Name’s Mondo Oowada…. Why the fuck are you lookin’ at me like that?”
“S-sorry,”
“It’s fucking creepy, man. Knock it off!”
And as for his fellow survivors…
“Makoto Naegi… Makoto Naegi… Makoto Nae-…why do I feel like I’ve heard that name before?” Hina wondered as she traced his name into her palm
“You said your name was Naegi, correct?” Kirigiri asked him as he was turning.“H-huh? Yeah?” He jumped. “I see…” And she uttered nothing more.
“Get out of my sight,” Togami sneered, although his expression was much less intense than before. Or was that just Naegi imagination…?
…He’s really not sure if they remember or not.
Monokuma’s screechy voice beckons them all to the gym just as before, and he offers little hesitation in going this time. He know what to expect now, he has a leg up on the others in that regard.
“Well,” he thinks. “Except for her.” He looks at ‘Junko Enoshima’, who he now knows to truly be Mukuro Ikusaba. She’s in front of him as they trek towards the gym. He can’t help but feel so foolish in hindsight. The differences are obvious now. “I guess that’s why they say hindsight is 20/20.”
He doesn’t really know how he feels about her. On one hand, he’s furious with her; she’s just as guilty for all the pain and suffering he and the others—his friends—went through (Or, is it will go through? He’s not sure, and thinking about it too much makes him start shaking again). She went along with such a terrible plan, and while he didn’t know the details, she was likely just as involved in sparking the tragedy as Junko was. She betrayed them all in more ways than he could count, and yet…
“At one point or another, I considered her a friend too, didn’t I?” he thinks as they file into the gym. He finds himself standing towards the back alongside Kirigiri this time, rather than in the center like his first experience, and he’s fine with that. He has a clear view of everyone from there. His eyes flicker back towards her again. “And she was just as much a victim as everyone else who died in the end.”
He closes his eyes for a moment, and he struggles not to see 10 corpses, each mangled in their own uniquely horrific way.
Everyone in the room that had previously perished was a victim, regardless of whether they’d been killed or a killer. Everyone was pushed to their limits, had just the right buttons pushed, and some simply snapped under that pressure. He couldn’t really blame them. He really didn’t blame any of them for it.
After all, there was only one person to blame for it all.
“I...am...Monokuma! And I am this school's headmaster! “ His sickeningly joyful voice reverberated throughout the gym. The bear had originally sent a chill down Naegi’s spine the first time he heard it, but now he found himself almost eerily calm.
He blocked out the conversation the others were having to focus on his own thoughts. “Maybe... maybe this isn’t as bad of a thing as I thought. I know what happens from here, so maybe I can change it,” The words written on the pamphlet flash through his mind once more.
You have been given a second chance...
“A second chance...” His eyes widened at the realization.
“What do you mean by "disrupt the harmony"?“ He suddenly hears Togami incredibly clearly.
“Puhuhu... Well, you know... If one person were to murder another.“ Monokuma cackles. Horrified gasps and hushed whisperings echo throughout the room. Naegi is not among them.
He’s too busy glaring at Monokuma, and by extension, Junko Enoshima. “No, no one will kill this time. Not if I have anything to do about it.”
Makoto Naegi will save everyone this time around. He’s not sure how, but he will do it, no matter what it takes.
