🍾😏😘 celebration 🎉
When they had been invited to an acquaintance’s New Year’s party, “at my family’s house in the countryside, it’s lovely!”, which promised to be boring, awkward, and full of terrible people and even worse alcohol, they had, of course, asked themselves “how could this possibly go wrong?”
In a lot of ways apparently.
Maglor had seen a lot of things go wrong in his life, but this was shaping up to be the worst.
Well, maybe that was a bit dramatic, but he was not happy.
He couldn’t find Daeron, and though he had looked through most of the building he had seen no trace of his husband.
Of course, he was looking with all the skill of someone who had been kidnapped by someone “come on Mags try the tequila it’s great”ing him, so maybe he wasn’t completely reliable, but he could still not find Daeron.
No. His ear twitched. Correction. He couldn’t see Daeron.
The voice coming from somewhere behind him was very distinctly, loudly, and drunkenly complaining about how much better cheese had been before the rising of the sun, and before the Noldor had appeared to ruin everything for everyone.
One could only hope that his interlocutor and everyone in a 10 meter radius were as drunk as he was, because this was the sort of thing that invited uncomfortable questions.
He shoved whoever it was out of the way.
“Hello beautiful, how did you end up here?” He found himself smiling at Daeron’s, who was looking somewhat unimpressed.
“I really don’t know, sir, my husband ran away to get drunk and abandoned me.” Daeron said, but he couldn’t maintain his straight face for very long, “I’m sorry I let you get kidnapped, love. I found an unsupervised bottle of champagne, do you want to go hide in the garden?”
The bottle, it turned out, had been unsupervised because it was nearly empty, but it was enough for a mouthful each, which was good enough.
They wouldn’t have been able to keep drinking anyway, as they soon reached a spot far enough from the house for the stars to be visible.
They weren’t their stars, not really. There were far fewer visible ones, to start with, but something about them was off.
Still, they were beautiful and soothing, and they couldn’t stop themselves from staring into the sky, hoping for the fainter stars to reveal themselves through the haze of light that was everywhere these days.
It didn’t happen, but it didn’t matter. Daeron was here with him, he felt warm and loose and relaxed and bold enough to just turn around and start kissing him.
It wasn’t his best idea perhaps, but he only thought of that after the taste hit him, and by then he was already absorbed in the feeling of soft hair under his fingers, a warm hand at his cheek, half-lidded dark eyes staring at him full of laughter, and lips on his own.
A roar came from the house and he jumped away.
Nothing wrong that he could see, Daeron upset, but nothing wrong.
What had happened.
Another roar, more distinguishable “THREE!”
Oh, right, it was New Year’s Eve. He must have been very distracted to miss this much of the countdown.
Daeron seemed to have understood what happened and was laughing at him, the traitor.
“TWO!”
He must have looked ridiculous, scooting more than jumping away from his husband’s warm kisses, and Daeron’s laughter was beautiful, clear and ringing even when he was trying to quieten it.
He started laughing too, and pushed himself back across the leaf-covered ground to lean against his husband’s shaking form.
Daeron calmed down a bit, and put his arms around him.
“ONE!!”
He was beautiful in the darkness, smiling kindly at him.
Moving forward towards him and kissing him again and again and again.
At some point the house must have shouted to greet the new year, but he didn’t hear it.
Daeron was warm and soft and wet and loving and that was all that mattered.
