I just thought of another, very obvious potential solution to containing cat litter that I forgot to add to that last post, one which I myself have considered for my current litter box (due to the low entrance), and that is to buy a large plant tray or possibly a second, larger, low-sided tote to put your litter box in to keep the mess more contained and off your floor. It’s perfectly natural for cats to make a complete and utter mess when burying their waste, so that’s not a behavior you can or should change, but there’s definitely ways to contain the mess without making your cat uncomfortable.

Thank you! Actually we have! We have seen other blogs do this with varying levels of success so it's definitely something we've thought about. It's the tickiness that comes with implementation and enforcement that has given us hesitation about it.
