Fuck wholesome headcanon. I love just saying the first thing that pops into my head and accepting it was canon. I think Kelly once had a cactus but they didn't water it for a long time but then she watered it way too much so it started rotting from the inside and she didn't tell their family out of guilt but instead kept it on their bedside table so they saw it multiple times a day and felt really guilty for making the cactus die a slow painful death.
