my favorite thing about learning languages is connecting words you sort-of know but not fully with words you see. of course, you can invent a lot of fake etymologies or mistranslations that can hinder your progress, but also. it's fun
säästumarket = a cheap supermarket säästu = cheap
oled säästnud = you cheaped

i mean curd/quark snacks dipped in chocolate are available in basically every formerly soviet country. i'm hungarian and my whole life i was told that túró rudi was a uniquely hungarian snack, but turns out that almost every eastern european country has their own very similar version. same thing with cabbage rolls, and walnut/poppy seed rolls although with those i think there's a bit more variation between different countries' versions.

I forgot which one of you cursed me with seeing this but if I had to, you will watch it too, with sound on

Tumblr is working on a new feature called Communities which is sort of a mix between tumblr and reddit? Basically it's a way to have a separate stream of posts besides your main dashboard (like a subreddit or a big shared blog). I've created the Eestiblr Community, so everyone who joins can post Estonia-related things there without making a dedicated blog for it and worrying about finding followers.
The URL is https://www.tumblr.com/communities/eestiblr
Feel free to post anything about Estonia, Baltics, Estonian language, or just reblog eestiblr memes.
(Please note that you cannot reblog into communities on mobile today yet, but it's possible on desktop.)
If you want to be one of the first 1500 people trying this feature out, let me know - right now you cannot join yourself, so I have to send you an invite. Feel free to reply here or DM me and I'll get it done.
