What about if all of the characters are there, but most seem... kind of faded... and then sometimes (rarely, rarely) they seem to turn into their own? Like the faded ones seem as though they're just mimicking the written character, but when they become more vibrant and real they have their own thoughts and such?

That happens too. I don't know much about that, but I have headmates that kind of flux in and out. Like they'll be very there and then kinda fade off for a while and then come back.

Do you think it's possible for someone with DID, who is an author, to have their characters become full-blown alters? (Or possibly the characters are based on the alters, but it's starting to seem like the characters may have come first...)

Absolutely. That's what happened to Alex and Miguel-- Miguel started out as a character Alex was writing. 

You can even have alters that are characters that aren't yours, I have to NBC Hannibal fictive headmates. 

That's absolutely possible and pretty common among multiples.

Is there somewhere that can be used for questions about DID/Multiplicity/etc.? I think I have it, but I have this weird fear of saying I have something and it turns out I actually don't and people accuse me of being a special snowflake or something...

I don't know of a blog that does specifically that, but feel free to ask questions here! All of the mods have multiplicity/DID and we're happy to answer questions (especially me, I like talking about myself)
