Personality: Samaki is an introvert. That is probably the first thing one notices about them. They require a lot of alone time or bad things happen. They prefer things to be quiet and peaceful “so that big thoughts are free to flow without interruption,” and tend to be uncomfortable when they’re around more than a few people. Loud, chaotic situations cause Samaki a great deal of stress, as do loud, chaotic people.
They are very bright and artistically gifted, which make up for the lack of comfort in social situations. Though they strive to apply analytical thinking and logic to all their affairs, Samaki is a philosopher at heart, always asking and answering very deep questions. They like to look for such questions in nature, where they feel most comfortable and at peace.
On the rare occasion they do interact with others, Samaki is a no-nonsense kind of person. They take everything literally and take on a very professional air when speaking. They are honestly quite judgemental, and frown upon those who express “childish” or “uncouth” behaviors. Beyond this, they are secretly pretty arrogant and egotistical, which causes them to hold themself to higher standards than other, “lesser” people.
While this very uptight appearance does tend to drive people away, they are dignified and considered respectable. Though not many people would want to be friends with Samaki, everyone respects them as a powerful, capable figure. They are always well-composed and collected, and they are a creative problem-solver. They always love a good intellectual challenge, however their previously mentioned high personal standards can lead to lapses of perfectionism, harsh criticism/self loathing, and compulsive tendencies.
Likes: Nature walks, adventure stories, philosophy, drawing, jasmine tea, biopsychology, quiet places, evening, salmon, music (most kinds), metacognition, rational debate, sociology, “Flowers for Algernon” (wonderful book), stargazing/star charting, legends and folklore, sculpting, singing, afternoon naps
Dislikes: Loud noises, crowded places, ignorance, people who exhibit demeaning behavior, strong scents (their poor kitty nose can’t handle all the smells!) most children and childish adults, sweet foods, most modern pop music, the current state of the world’s governing bodies (even though it doesn’t affect them in any way), stubborn people with incorrect beliefs, Kris Kardashian (“who is even more insufferable than her entire pack of children combined”), prejudice of any kind
Theluji: Theluji is a tundra spirit (she takes the form of a white wolf) who is probably the closest thing to a friend Samaki has ever had. Theluji is a “co-worker” of Samaki’s, as they both are tasked with preserving the balance of their respective ecosystems, which requires them to plan together. Theluji is generally cheerful, optimistic, and amiable, getting along with almost everyone. She’s very smart and has an affinity for artwork. She is respectful of Samaki’s solitary nature, (though she is very social herself) and appreciates the forest spirit’s ability to enjoy their own company. Samaki is rather impressed with Theluji’s people skills and seemingly endless patience. Theluji and Samaki rarely meet in person, though, and usually their meetings are for business.
Theluji is Samaki’s one confidant, the person they trust with their secret problems and such. In turn, Samaki offers a lot of practical problem-solving advice during their meetings, as Theluji is often caught in feuds between her friends.
Karjalanpiiraka: Karja represents most of the things Samaki has little tolerance for. Childish, chaotic, disruptive, and overall insufferable in their eyes, Karja seems to take pride in how easily he can push Samaki to the edge.
Samaki was never really all that patient when it came to dealing with people, but they have absolutely no interest in humoring Karja at all. Now that they have been stuck trying to help dumb human teenager for a long time with little to no progress, Samaki is beyond even trying to engage him. They prefer to just ignore the human whenever possible, unless already particularly aggravated. In which case elaborate ploys to win a one-sided battle of the wits are in order.
It’s in this way that Karjalan can bring out Samaki’s more mischievous, childish side. The petty household feuds between the two really open the spirit up, regardless of whether they admit it or not. Perhaps one day, he can teach Samaki how to have fun.
