I think Raffina’s struggle to use magic goes a lot deeper than her just having less magical energy than her peers. Like yeah, her classmates are a god/angel, a demon, and a kid borrowing that demon’s strength, but even if that weren’t the case, Raffina’s magic would still be the weakest.

Madou III shows that spells can have adverse effects on the user, such as when Arle gets his hands frostbitten by overcasting ice storm. I think it would be interesting if Raffina’s disability worked like that too. For example, Raffina is perfectly capable of summoning a flame in the palm of her hand, but she’d not be able to protect herself from the heat, and burn the heck out of herself. The reason she moves so much while casting is to mitigate this exact issue.

If she throws a magical punch, she only needs the magic to be active in the moment the punch lands. And as long as she pulls back as quickly as possible, she’ll get her body out of harm’s way before she hurts herself. This is why Raffina’s magical martial arts style is the only viable way for her to practice magic.
