Weapons or armor?I think weapons depend less on the class and more on the person playing, because a gun that works really nicely for one person may be a nightmare for someone else. For instance, I play with someone who loves No Man Beyond, but I can’t play it to save my life (literally.)
As for armor…. again, this is more of a matter of personal preference and how you run your character, but I do think certain pieces work really well for the aesthetic of a Guardian, whereas others optimize the general style of play. Speaking strictly of functionality, I can’t really talk much about Warlocks and Titans because I don’t have very many exotics for them (I have An Insurmoutable Skullfort/Glasshouse for raiding on my Titan and Crest of Alpha Lupi for Nightfall, and Light Beyond Nemesis and Heart of the Praxic Fire/Voidfang Vestments for my Warlock, all of which I switch between regularly because none of these exotics are fully upgraded. However, of those, Crest of Alpha Lupi and Light Beyond Nemesis are my favorites.) As for Hunters, I think the exotics that best lend to functionality are the helmets—this is unfortunately a bit biased since I’ve never really played with Young Ahamkara’s Spine, Don’t Touch Me’s, or the Radiant Dance Machines. Of those helmets, I personally think Knucklehead Radar and Achylophage Symbiote are the best exotics for Hunters. Knucklehead Radar’s ability to keep the radar up during aiming with a primary is beyond useful in the Crucible, as is Achylophage Symbiote’s extra fourth shot to Golden Gun. That’s just my opinion though—I far prefer Gunslinger to Bladedancer, so Bladedancer Hunters or Hunters that raid often will probably have a better time with Mask of the Third Man. In the end, it really just boils down to playstyle :)-Sera
I think it all depends on your playing style. Although some exotics I think are more aesthetically appealing, there are definitely those that serve a great practical use. I really like Helm of Saint 14 and Helm of Inmost Light for the Titan, Obsidian Mind for the Warlock, and Achlyophage Symbiote and Mask of the Third Man for the Hunter. Also any of the quick revive exotics like Light Beyond Nemesis, and the Alpha Lupi gear are always great for Nightfalls and Skirmish. But yeah I think it all depends on your playing style but each class has their own great specific exotics! -Andrew
