thoughts on marco's insomnia turned into a sex joke?

as someone who has terrible insomnia to the point of being prescribed sleeping medication, i find the new updates to be very insensitive. while Marcos reason can be a real cause of insomnia for people who live with their parents, Marcos situation is written off as a joke. hearing your parents or guardians having intercourse can also be a traumatizing experience for some as well. it'd be a lot better if Marco was written to have insomnia due to his family stress and having to take care of his younger siblings, as older siblings often deal with. - mod Marco

i really don't like most of the sex jokes in general. it's not even normal lore. which makes it very, very easy to ignore if you go "oh i really don't like this." i still find it weird how KC somehow finds ways to sexualize disorders. -📎

why is marco's insomnia caused by the cometparents having earth shattering gay sex every single night instead of genetic or caused by medication or his narcolepsy or something. literally why

honestly bro i thought for a long time marcos insomnia was supposed to be tied to anxiety which would have been a cool plot point to pull with and work with but with kc just saying its gay sex then in the next couple pages ignoring this drop.... cuz we see marco is now confiding in the dog person about having a nightmare and feeling stressed by his home life and it feels like that instead of building off the preexisting plot point about possibly tackling marcos issues related to hearing his parents fuck every night it immediatly swaps back to this weird alien thing and marco feeling pressured to fulfill a role in the family it makes it come across as kc realizing she wants to fix marcos sleep issues and instead of seeing him get help or therapy or figuring out the solution it just turns out its noise pollution every night not even a subtly building an arc where its dropped and he tries to find a solution, such as sleeping during the day and going out at night instead the only way for it to be relevant is a random drop where in the next scene hes just sleeping at howies parents home it feels like it could have been an arc but in the moment kittycorn didnt wish to subtly build kits character instead so desperately wanting to rush to this next key plot point and if she just wanted marco out of the house then it still would have worked with marco escaping to someone elses house at night and slowly realizing he wants to leave but instead howies parent has to be a mouth piece to just tell marco to leave because of the nightmare he had this should have been treated as a heavy plot point or something serious but instead its denoted to a lil side gag and isntead this arc has to be about this particular point related to marco instead of the many other things and with deciding that the cause for his insomnia was the parents fucking that also means that kc can just... have him leave and suddenly hes completely cured of all his issues which is wholeheartedly and genuinely frustrating to think about and downplaying the struggles of insomniacs who have genetic or biological issues especially when just earlier i was thinking the marcos insomnia seemed for once well written and well handled without it being unnecesarily cured and it just being an aspect that marco is learning to deal with i genuinely thought based on earlier dialogue we could see him develope and learn to cope but we dont get this learning phase it can just be cleansed by him moving out and leaving plus i feel nervous that maybe we arent really gonna get this arc about marco realizing how fucked up these orgies are also most folks that have kids and in their 50s to 60s with several kids tend to calm down on all the sex anyways as libido with age calms so it just feels like an ass pull that this is the excuse but yeah also unrelated nickpicks why is his allotopun narcolepsy yet it doesnt seem relevant and why is his image on the toyhouse have him twink i fied -uni

recently kittycorn put out a post about sparklecare being moved to 18+ over 16+ in rating i see a lot of hating on kc for this change and i will immediatly say that kittycorn is within kneeby's rights to set whatever rating precedent or standard she wishes within her community i believe the same for the shut down of the main fancord as well if kc has decided that she wants to seperate from the fandom and shut of the discord thats on her and nobody else in fact i am half happy that kc is finally setting kitself some boundaries to better improve her mental and psychological well being personally i believe that everyone should respect her boundaries and not harass nor bully her over any of this now with how content is on the internet there will be plenty of minors making fake accounts to still enjoy and entertain themselves with the comic and keep in mind what each subsection of the community does with minors in their groups is their business as long as no one is hurt i also see why kc would move the rating up and has genuinely been wayyy long overdue with some portions of the comic containing intensely sensitive topics suggestive themes and gore in fact there may be some parts of making it 18+ which may open up the gates for kc to feel less retrained on what kneeby writes about and maybe we will return to more murder in the murder hospital finally reminder that the comic isn't devolving to a smut or fetish work because of this and should still be treated as such not everything 18+ in rating is smut if you think this i would recommend reading up on esrb ratings guide to clear any possible confusion - uni

this post is going to be about the fandom in general the whiteknighters the critters and kc so this will be a longer post from me broskis so in any fandom theres a bunch of ways to enjoy a medium however theres been an increase in vitriolic behaviors towards kc and her person i personally may not agree with kc nor her behaviors but more recently posts directly digging on her and proclaiming her nonsensical things have become more popular which is disturbing to see as not only are these posts hurtful but also creates and breeds ill-will for a mostly well meaning person who may incidentally be ignorant if you spot ignorance from kc the best way to deal with it isnt insulting squeaks character nor harassing and sending death threats more often than not talking to her or making a post about it to spread awareness is fine now all of this isnt to say that kc isnt without flaw nor is her comic claims of kc scamming being one flaw of the creator but the second you come to your sparklecrit blog and start insulting and attacking kc and using your audience to turn against her and then use the mask of 'criticism' thats not cool sparklecriticism should be about the comic not the creator not the fandom the comic which is a massive difference and while yes I am technically hopping on my sparklecrit account it is tagged with fandom criticism not sparklecriticism as this is by no means about the comic plus misusing the platform to harass and attack creators is generally not cool either and by slapping 'oh its sparklecriticism' your smearing the name upon those who mean genuine good will and not saying you have to suck up to or adore kc youre allowed to dislike her but if you dont like her simply dont talk to or interact with her as long as she isnt actively harming people or breaking the law bun should be allowed to be given space and not hated to her face however ever defending or arguing to not harass kc can be called a dick rider by some of the (more extreme) crit community because to some of these folks kc is irredeemable and deserves harm if you think kc or someone who mildly displeases you deserves harm torment or extended pain please step away and re evaluate as that thought process is not healthy for you or those around you now earlier i mentioned whiteknights and kc which is now what i will be digging upon now whiteknighters are a whole other can of worms they assume anyone with criticisms are to attack and harass kc they assumethat every glance is to harm someone in reality criticizing is a form of adoration for a medium as these folks feel so much passion and so much love for this project which takes time and effort to build and make it shows that there is so much love that someone can feel actual pain when they believe a character or scene is miscahracterized but whiteknighters have a very black and white view they give no room for sparklecritters to breathe nor say their piece and take every phrase and word as pure evil incarnate whilst on the other end these same whiteknighters will see kc and defend fen with tooth and nail any wrongdoing or miscommunication or harm is perfectly fine and surely the others blowing it out of proportions which isnt healthy either as we are all human and have flaws and to think one human is above the rest for any reason is obsessive to praise one and say that any mistake was merely an accident and does not need to apologize is lethal self adoration and praise will just lead to a point where others will be shoved away and silenced unless they do the utmost to praise at all moments being a complete opposite of the criticism side this post is more about how both sides can have some really strong extremists as most fans are chill and are willing to talk and not rely on mindless insults and harassment but it hurts to see anyone on either side turn to the extreme views a fandom is about building companionship over a shared interest not tearing one another down for the sake of it -uni

as someone who is sex repulsed (and is picky with romance in media) i just feel kind of annoyed overall with the lack of asexual representation in SC/CC

uni was (is?) aegosexual and hemera is aro/ace, but like.. idk i know it is a spectrum but i don’t feel represented, it feels like a lot of it is swept under the rug to make way for lots and lots of shipping opportunities because that apparently makes up 90% of the plot -_-

hello 🏴‍☠️ yes if im remembering correctly uni is supposed to be aegosexual but its annoying because throughout the volumes this is never seen its hung in front of the audience to make them feel represented but the second it actually comes to writing the character becomes a sex joke vessel and not just that but uni has an arousal state because of her horn anytime its rainbow shes horny and its a lot especially with barry degrading uni and honestly genuinely the (canonical) fetishization of this character that is supposed to be the one of 2 or 3 ace spectrum is honestly sickening like if we only saw this on external stuff or fan art or could be just said as jokes but the fact it happens in comic just completely ignores this canon as for hemera i dont know if shes ever sexualized to the same extent as i dont go through as much hemera content (and hemera not being a kc favorite) but the fact shes one of very few aromantic rep and in cc she has 5 ''queer platonic relationships'' with a child just shows a blatant misunderstanding of how it works or its even possible that kc has cherrypicked instances of aromanticism and asexuality so that they could fit neatly into buns personal ideal world for everyone or its a genuine misunderstanding of the concept but i feel as if both of these could be easily resolved with some research or even listening to those actually on the aroace spectrum but squeak isnt a fan of criticism so she will probably never see the flaws in her characters i made a longer post hemera earlier too so im not too sure if i want to sit here and retype all the same points but i agree with the idea that sexual and romantic preferences are swept under just to make room for cute ships in kittycorns mind which just sucks especially when some relationships don't even feel like they would fit seriously hemera and barry doesnt make since -uni

yeah anon i can see why you feel that way especially sense sparklecare was originally meant to represent the cycle of abuse and trauma that any person could feel but of course kit only wants to represent squeaks trauma and when it isnt her trauma she wants to remove it because its uncomfortable but trauma is supposed to be uncomfortable and if someone wants to write a story about it theyve got to 'go yeah this is uncomfortable but because its uncomfortable and not as many people wish to discuss it my goal is to discuss it and represent those groups who often feel neglected in media because of taboo' but to kitty she doesnt want to full deal so just deletes 'non important' trauma or trauma that isnt directly her own and yeah only wanting to represent oneselfs trauma in a comic is fine especially if you dont feel you can properly represent it but thats not the problem kittycorn has she has people squeak can reach out to and contact for assistance she has the resources and time to do research she has every ability and resource she could ever want but refuses it because other traumas just aren't as important to her opting to flat out remove it and it doesnt really make sense as we do see a dysfunctional family but why not admit that there may be abuse or trauma within it why say that abuse doesnt exist it can especially make dysfunctional or traumatic events in cc come across as not abuse to kittycorn but just as 'friendly family discourse' when the family is literally trying to kill each other plus thats often an excuse by an abuser (or third party to which a child tried to reach out to) to a child to just be like 'its just tough love' when literally being physically or emotional abused or harmed if it was just removing it thatd be questionable but the fact that its seen but just as a joke so yeah it makes sense to feel invalidated as it feels like kittycorn is making fun of the trauma just because it doesnt exist canonically and excusing as familial arguments -uni
