I'm really interested in this whole arranged marriage thing between Azizi and Ambessa.
From what Ambessa tells us about the Medarda family, it doesn't seem like your heir has to be legitimate or even related to you.
It is said multiple times that Azizi is very rich, and Ambessa obviously had her warbands and her reputation.
But if the transaction was 'money for military protection', what was the point of them getting married ? They don't actually need to have children. Obviously, the marriage gave them more than just children because they actually loved each other, but it's not like Menelik could have known that beforehand.
It could have been to make peace between his and her family. A bit like how the war of roses ended.
Or they were married to kind of cancel out each others flaws.
It just seems like such an interesting choice with the rest of the worldbuilding. In history and most fiction, the importance of arranged marriages always seems to boil down to needing to have a legitimate heir.
I also would love to know how Ambessa reacted to it. Seems very contrary to the "A Medarda strikes their own path" part of the code in a way that's hard to ignore.
Why does it seem like every Azutara fic is "look how caring and understanding Katara is of Azula," not "two people who don't like each other are forced together against their will and end up becoming murder buddies?" Like I understand why people like the first dynamic and it's fine, but I would think the second dynamic would be at least as much or more interesting and compelling, yet I feel like I never run into it.
we’ve all seen the pictures, she looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL, um.. and he’s there /q
