how do you draw French braids??
Hi! Mod Xy here. Before we talk about french braids, lets go ahead and take a look a basic braids (because french braids are just normal braids with a lil extra fancy)
You can think of braids as being made up of little “bricks”, arranged perpendicular along a zigzag. Its very easy to draw them sideways like this, but we usually want to draw braids going straight down rather than sideways. We can do that!
you start by drawing a zigzag, where the angles of the zigs are about 90°. it doesn’t have to be perfect; hair is rarely perfect.
then you start adding your lil bricks! along the zags! look at that beautiful braid ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ the outsides of the braid should also be zigzagged.
you can then smooth things out, cause hair likes to form curvs rather than harsh angles. Practice makes better braids, and braids are a fun thing to doodle! my notebooks are full of them.
now! french braids! french braids are made by bringing extra strands into a braid while you braid it. In art, you can draw those extra strands at the end.
you start with a normal braid (draw your zigzag and add your bricks), and then in each indent on the sides of the braid, you add a a triangle of hair going into the braid.
repeat until you have a triangle going into each indent, and there’s your (simplified) french braid!
Every trans person deserves to be safe, happy, and to transition to the point where they are content and at home in their bodies.
This is not up for debate.
happy halloween from the Gang!!
they spend various amounts of effort and time on their outfits (except dear hero of folklore, who doesn't know what halloween is but looks dressed up as a weapon rack anyway)

Hi! My anthro cat didn’t look right so I decided to submit her! I think I need some help with the hands, the pose (I need to learn how to do the legs, ahh!), and colouring with prismacolours. (I think I maybe should have used a flatter paper.) Also maybe drawing fur on an anthro?
I’m hoping for either Mod Pixiev, Wackart or Chekov to redline this!
Thank you all so much for giving up your time to do this. :D
You’re welcome :) I went over the drawing and altered a few things. The pose was given a very vague and simple “ twist “ to make it look a little more appealing. I also added the indication of the muzzle/nose bridge and its connection to the eyes just for good measure, and to flesh out the facial structure some more. This, of course, makes the creature look a little closer to its respective animal.. So it is up to you to decide if it speaks to you.
Now as for fur on toony anthros.:
For me personally, less is more when it comes to drawing fur. I only draw fur where it might enhance the sihlouette or general structure of the character. Meaning that fur is only added to strategic places of the anatomy such as “chin, scalp, elbows etc. On top of that I like to draw fur in fluffy clumps rather than pointy spikes, it looks more voluminous in my opinion. I dont adress much of the fur in terms of individual strands either. Especially not with simple, toony styles like this.

And now a quick introduction to pencil colouring by everyone’s favorite pencil-savánt, Mod Xy. Note that Xy has changed the ears to align closer to that of a cat. A design tip if you want your anthro to look more accurate to its animal aspect.
light lineart in normal pencil
lightly color the first layer, focus on keeping the pressure even, so that the coloring is even too.
color over some of the lineart with the brown colored pencil. optional but looks good IMO. (I also started the second layer of brown)
finished second layer of brown, darkening it and adding a bit of depth in certain places.
lined the eyes with a dark green
(lightly) color half-way down the eyes with the dark green. decrease pressure going down to make a bit of a gradient. blend the gradient even more by going over the bottom of the dark green section with the base lime-green/yellow color.
