hi! from what i gather, i always interpreted it as him just using it as a way to flirt with her. like jess definitely really liked her then, he fell for her early on, but tbh he doesn’t have a good track record of saying things straight forward, so i think it was a way to flirt as well as show that he cares about her in some way.

So...I'm rewatchiing season one, y'know and there's one little scene at episode 11 'Best Chritsmas ever' in which Hyde asks to talk with Jackie (It's about Donna's gift but let's call that detail irrrelevant) so jackie goes all 'Okay but if you want to make out with me I'll probably say no' and the confused expression on Hyde's face, like 'Probably!??'
