Miles Davis: Kind of Blue (180 gram, DOL, 2015) Regarded as the pinnacle of modal Jazz, Miles Davis followed up his first explorations into modal Jazz—Milestones—with 1959's Kind of Blue. Assembling his sextet ensemble—John Coltrane & Julian "Cannonball" Adderley on saxophones, Bill Evans on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums—at Colombia Records 30th Street Studio. It's worth noting that pianist Wynton Kelly appears on one track in place of Evans. It was at Colombia Records' New York studio that Davis set about recording the first three tracks for side one of the LP in March 1959. The remaining two tracks were recorded in April of that year. It's amazing to realise that this was all achieved using nothing but a three multitrack recorder. Kind of Blue reached far beyond the musical sphere of Jazz. Rock musicians of the 60s, searching to break new ground artistically looked to Kind of Blue a long with other Davis albums and works by John Coltrane. Richard Wright, of Pink Floyd fame, cited the chord progressions used on Kind of Blue influenced the introductory chords used on The Darkside of the Moon' 'Breathe'. In essence Kind of Blue created a whole new musical language. #milesdavis #modaljazz #jazz #vinyl #vinylcommunity https://www.instagram.com/p/B3xaCrmpf3s/?igshid=1iri2cfr54unh
