Pandorian Mantas have a headcannoned Pandorian name of Flyrteps in the world of Jor Trouble. Which translates loosely to Flying Rug.
Athena ran through the silent village and across the bridge. It wasn’t long before she stood on the step of Avalon’s house. Taking a second to catch her breath, she pounded on the door.
There was a bit of shuffling from the inside before it creaked open. Avalon stood in the doorway, air of extreme disapproval pouring from him.
“What do you want?”
“I need your brother.”
The door slammed in her face.
“AVALON, I SWEAR TO HIGH HEAVEN, OPEN THIS D-”
There was a second of scuffling before the door opened to reveal the person of her search, bowl of dinner in hand.
“Sorry about that. Come on in.”
Stepping through, she came into the front room just in time to see Avalon vanish into the kitchen, rubbing the back of his hood.
Evergray followed her gaze. “Don’t mind him. He and I just had a short…discussion about door manners, and I don’t think he liked how I delivered the lesson. Have a seat. What can I do for you?”
“Gimme a sec…”
Ignoring his confused look, she turned around and fished out what she had come for. Cupping it in her hands, she turned back around.
“I need your help.”
The bowl hit the floor, pasta spilling onto the rug.
“I’d forgotten about ‘im earlier. He fell on me during the battle with Anwir, after his parents got hit by a stray shot that bounced. I have no idea what Anwir was slinging around, but it shot a hole right through them. I snagged him so he didn’t suffer the same fate or get stepped on.” She ran a finger under the little manta’s chin. “Problem is, I have no idea how to take care of one.”
His hands started forward before he caught himself.
“May I?”
“Go ahead.”
Carefully, as if he was handling newly-blown glass, he coaxed the baby into his hands, bringing it up for closer inspection as he sank into the closest chair.
“Hello, little one…” he whispered reverently.
Deep blue eyes studied the Ex-Druid.
“I don’t believe I’ve seen one of your kind this young before.”
The tiny head tilted, wingtips pittering on his palms.
I'm writing a research paper on the development of the dowry system in India, and a promising-sounding article I found turns out to be from the "Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion." The only argument I've found so far constitutes, "The dowry system is bad," and it's full of blanket statements like, "The lives of Hindu women revolve around men," and "the Hindu notion of an ideal woman is..." I agree that the dowry system is problematic in many ways and that some bias is inevitable, but...
…But the claim is too generalized, too simplistic and it doesn’t sound like a reliable page, I agree. I also agree that the dowry system is very troublesome, but not for the reasons stated above.
Hey did you hear about the 200 girls in Nigeria who were abducted and are being sold as brides for $12? The group who took them believes women shouldn't have an education. But yeah, us first world countries really need feminism.
Yeah, I’ve heard of the Boko Haram and the girls missing in Nigeria, but only a bit.
I'm coming off anon. I am not saying that having a racial preference is the same as being gay. You are born gay. You are not born not liking black women. It is not the same at all. You learn racial "preferences" usually by stereotypes. -Z
Thank you for coming off anon! I applaud on your bravery (No, I am not being sarcastic this time folks, just a heads up).
I get where you are coming from. Liking a certain race for the stereotypes is cringeworthy and racist, and although they can intertwine from time to time, it is not 100% of the time.
I mean, I find white people with red hair to be really alluring and beautiful. I have a preference for white people with red hair. But I do not have that preference for the stereotype of the “fierce witchy ginger”, you know what I mean?
There are physical attributes to a race that are appealing, and that is where is not racist.
"Women that oppose feminism because they feel they personally have all the rights and respect they need are so incredibly selfish and ignorant to the plight of women not only in their own country, but across the developing world." Wow, no, Tumblr. Shut the fuck up. Stop being so ignorant and judgmental, it's gross.
…Says the group in this site that uses the plight of those women as props.
To be fair, I think the laws requiring car insurance is more so that you don't screw someone else over if you hit them, than it is to make sure that you are taken care of.
I would say that it works both ways when it comes to intentions.
In a lot of cased, independent insurance is cheaper now because they can't penalize you for already being sick. There are a lot of kinks in the system, yes (and I hate to throw a group under the bus, but I'm looking at you Republican congressmen) but it's a step in the right direction because insurance was highway robbery before.
I do think it needs to be amended, because it is “a good idea” (now instead of high robbery in the private section, is high robbery in the federal level. Who can pay 96 per month being in salary of 500 hundred every two weeks, like my mom?), but damn it, it is flawed. I mean, being penalized for not having insurance (I cannot afford the Federal Marketplace and I do not qualify for Medicaid unless I am disabled) sure needs to be addressed, especially on PA (What the hell were they thinking?).
Oh I totally agree that feminism is a non issue in the US and other western countries- and that feminists in those countries could channel their energy into helping places that DO need feminism instead of bitching about how men are allowed to look at us. American feminists are examples of people suffering from extensive first world problems.
