Insight #1 Decline in Castings for International Models

We place models around the world and one of the myths we hear all the time is, "I am not going on many castings because the Agency is not pushing me since I have paid back all my expenses".

Our Reply:  When a model first comes to a market (any market) the agency has the model go to as many of their clients or castings as possible. At some point the model has been seen by all the clients as well as the photographers, makeup artists, stylists, production companies etc. and the regular castings drop off unless the client requests you. Of course there are exceptions but this is usually the reason and the client books you without a casting.  New clients, new casting.  It would not be in any ones best interest to not have a model work just because their expenses are paid off.  That would mean the agency is in business to break even and we can assure you they are not.  When a model makes money the agency makes money.

Venue Spotlight: The Oxford Union

The Oxford Union is the place where Donatella Versace told students that Queen Elizabeth II is ‘rock and roll’. It is the place where photographer Perou said ‘I’d like to photograph the women that I’d like to be making out with.’ It is even said to be the place where Anna Wintour once took off her sunglasses...

On October 13th the Oxford Union will once again play host to figures from the dynamic world of fashion with the OFS Model Casting. The event, sponsored by TARGETjobs, will search to find an aspiring model for The Face of Oxford Fashion Week Campaign in preparation for November’s Oxford Fashion Week. It will be the Union’s opening fashion event of a year that will see visits from Donna Karen, Valentino, Vera Wang and David Gandy, and promises to be a sparkling occasion of raw talent in the historic debating chamber.

Founded in 1823, the Union was established to protect and uphold the principles of free speech among students at a time when they were being severely challenged, and to this day the Union remains the only student-run society in Oxford entirely independent of the University. Lord Jenkins, former Chancellor of the University said, ‘The Union has become more famous than the University itself’, and Harold Wilson famously called the society ‘the last bastion of free speech in the Western world’.

Debating remains at the heart of the society. Every Thursday evening during term distinguished guests come to argue for and against motions such as the famous annual Michaelmas opener, ‘This House Has No Confidence in Her Majesty’s Government’. When the debating chamber is not acting as a catwalk it is a packed room of argument and opinion, and this Michaelmas term already has world class debates and incredible speaker meetings filled with Cabinet Ministers, Front Bench opposition, heads of state and celebrities from all walks of life.
