NEW YEAR. NEW AU. LETS DO THIS.
For this first writing related post of the year, I will NOT write anything Sanders Sides related.
Shocking, I know.
So lately I’ve discovered an interesting fact about Dear Evan Hansen. Y’all know how in Waving Through A Window, Connor tries to get Evan’s attention, but he ignores him?
Well, did y’all know that during that scene, the background screens are full of pictures of Zoe?
So, combined with the whole Evan-is-a-dickhead conclusion from this post I wrote with @broadwaytheanimatedseries (which is based purely on the musical and not the book, I have not read the book and will take some time to do that), and with my personal preference for the OBC of Ben Platt, Mike Faist and Will Roland, I present,
The Price of Growth.

Connor didn’t die. He went through high school relatively okay, barely graduating. Evan did somewhat a little bit better.
So far so good.
During their senior year, Connor befriended Jared, and moved out to California with him after graduation. Nobody’s heard much from them for the first couple years. Evan goes on to date Zoe, they’re going pretty strong and they’re very happy.
Six years later, Connor and Jared come back. Jared is now a big shot name in the high tech industry, no surprise there. The bigger deal about him is that he matured. A lot.
Connor did too. He started taking meds for his BPD and ADHD and depression, he actually takes care of himself now, he’s much less destructive, and... he’s been modeling for about four or five years now. He’s a pretty big deal in the industry, he’s an androgynous model which is somehow even better, and he really doesn’t care anymore.
As he said in an interview some time ago (which Cynthia has recorded for generations to come because look at her son— ahem, child, after Connor came out as non-binary in the same interview), modeling made him take better care of himself, which in turn helped him with his mental health, which helps him in his modeling. This self-care thing is really like a cycle in his opinion.
And... Evan may or may not have the biggest crush on him. Will he stop at nothing to get him? Maybe. If he wasn’t so scared of Jared...
After all, Jared and Connor left. They’ve experienced. They’ve grown. Did Evan grow just the same...?
