#ModelCorner: Going to a Casting Call by @MartinImagery
As a photographer I’m always looking for my next subject. I’ve found models and those with modeling potential in the most random places – the mall, walking down the street or online. However, when it comes to the major photoshoots a casting call is often the most effective an efficient way to find modeling talent. As a model, attending casting calls are very important. Before making a name for yourself they will be your primary source of getting work. Whether it’s an open call for an agency or something more specific, like a runway show for a designer, it is imperative that you present your best self!
Here are some suggestions on how to prepare and what to wear for a casting call.
Preparation
Comp Card
This is the models business card. They vary in size but you should have 3 – 5 different shots of you. One of those should be a headshot. In addition to images your comp card should have current contact information and most importantly measurements.
DO NOT CUT CORNERS ON YOUR COMP CARD! FIND A GOOD PHOTOGRAPHER! Ask for samples of their work and comp cards. Ask for references as well. This is your career; it’s your right!
Portfolio
A portfolio gives you the opportunity to show your versatility. It gives the photographer, designer or creative director the chance to see your range of work. They may not like what they see in person but an image in your portfolio may change all of that. Even with a portfolio you should still have a comp card because it has your contact information and measurements.
Posing & Walking
PRACTICE YOUR RUNWAY WALK! PRACTICE YOUR POSES! You will be asked to do this at the casting call. If not...consider yourself lucky!
