Get the Gold / MODEL STAGGS
UTMT Bootlegs
UTMT turned up to witness the spectacle that was the Shindig night at St Pauls. This is Model Staggs performing a new song.
Reviewed ¬``¬ The Shindig Night July 14th
Picture this: stone walls and floors, high ceilings, stained glass. You’d be right to assume we’re in a church, and this was the location of the July 14th 'Shindig': the charming St Paul’s on Hills Road which welcomed us with a set from Hella Better Dancer. Most striking were the acoustics, which was unsurprising given the location. The swooping harmonies and wandering guitars flowed intimately, and through the constant waves of songs the lead singer of the quartet managed a “hello everybody” to the crowd left mesmerised.
Eventually the flow of music stopped with an actual pause between songs, which allowed me time to think. So many comparisons can be drawn to this band; they seem to take so many great influences and combine them to create something spectacular. Like a funky, danceable Warpaint with the soaring highs of the Maccabees and the swooping lows of Fleet Foxes. I urge you: if you ever get a chance to see this band, do.
UTMT Picks ¬``¬ This Week's Gigs
So we were sent a lovely email by the curator of the newly founded Shindig nights in Cambridge. This Saturday, the St Pauls Centre plays host to a wonderful array of entertainment set out for the people of Cambridge. If you want to see what I mean, this is an extract of the email.
Born out of boredom and disenchantment with the typical "3-band gig" format, this exciting new Cambridge-based night aims to bring you music, art and performance mixed together in an interesting space. Each SHINDIG night has a different feel and a completely different line up, with performers from all disciplines - from spoken word to cabaret and everything in between.
July 14th sees the third installment of the night, set to feature acoustic loveliness Like Spinning London's Hella Better Dancer, and Cambridge's own Model Staggs. Aesthetically, the venue will host an interactive visual art piece by Krisztián Hofstädter. We will also be joined by electronic musician Spire Craines, for an experimental piece between acts. Expect more by way of spontaneous performance thrown into the mix too!
Sounding fantastic right! Doors at 8 at the St Pauls Centre on Hills Road, with tickets priced at £8.

all the molecules that make you up can't be wrong and is there any substance in the world that can withstand the weight of your stare?
I may have mentioned this, but I flipping love this band.
