It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...The Schleich Rainbow Love Unicorn Family! As you remember from a previous TTT, Schleich made a rainbow unicorn family where it had 7 colors of gems in an arch for each member as their ‘symbol’ and they all also featured rainbow tipped hair. It seems that was a good success, and so later on, in 2022, they release the Rainbow Love unicorns. Naturally, these have hearts to hold the gems instead of arches. They still have the fun rainbow tipped hair and glitter accents.  Baby at the top there has dark gold for the feet, and a heart with only 3 stones. The hair here looks like they may have had a bit of a fright, though... The middle is the stallion of the family, which is somewhat unusual because usually it is the mare who has the longer hair. He has a silver horn, and silver for his legs and glitter. The mare is at the bottom, and her leg accents are an interesting copper, as is her heart shape. (note that the heart always matches) Her hair is wavier and seems to have a bit more rainbow to it. Her horn seems extra glittery as well. As is the usual for Schleich, this is a pretty set! Though they’re not sold as a set...and are pretty costly for small toys that are not action-featured. The adults tend to be 19.99 each. That’s pretty steep for an under-5 inch toy, however, the molds DO seem to be unique. They’re nicely sculpted, the glitter is very fitting, and the rainbow fantasy colors are nicely bold. A good family to collect, if you have a bunch of money.

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Breyer Unicorn Swirl Gift Set! This is a new set that came out with apparently no real fanfare in winter of 2022. It’s pretty cool to see, because it lets their popular stablemates size unicorns get even wilder with fantasy color.  The box back says they’re inspired by tie-dye, and that each set is unique. Because they’re created by making airbrush splotches for the colors, they likely are unique to a degree. (Just like how their florentine ones are) You get Dreamscicle orange walking, Razzmatazz rearing pose, Lime Sublime standing & Purple Dream with the short tail. Opinion Time: Is the set perfect? Not really, but it’s very good. It’s mostly just little nitpicks and is still very good to own. While 3 of them are named after food, the 4th isn’t so it feels unfitting or unmatching. Then, they didn’t paint the horns at all, which is a little odd because every other unicorn they’ve done paints the horn a different color than the body to make it seem magical. The green they chose doesn’t really go with the blue somehow? Razzmatazz is the strongest one by far with orange, yellow and magenta together and a very exciting sculpt. (They have access to all their own sculpts all the time, so why pick the unpopular short tail pose?) Lime Sublime also seems to have ‘just blotches’ and does not come across as ‘swirling’ or tie dye at all.  The variety is good here, the paint actual-application is nice, and their price is ok at about 20 for the whole set. It should be able to be found on Amazon, and is always a set so don’t get duped by ebay single-listing these. They haven’t done anything like these before and they’re good colorful fun.

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Breyer Rainbow of Stablemates Unicorns! TTT is late this week, but with good reason because this is a cool rainbow post! Somehow Breyer released “Rainbow of Stablemates”, but where were they actually sold normally? I got these as ‘opened items’ on Ebay as the set, but you can’t find them in the usual Breyer seeking places. It was a little costly, but I love rainbows so I just had to get them, and they’re even prettier in person. Each one has a color of the rainbow as the main color, plus white and either gold or silver. None have colored hooves. There are a few sorta-odd choices, like why is the ‘red’ unicorn pink? There’s nothing wrong with a flame-crimson fantasy toy. It’s not like the set was pastel-only & it would have clashed. Orange is a good, vivid color. Then, why use the same pose twice, two times? Green & Orange are the same, so are Pink & Yellow. They DO have enough poses for stablemates unicorns that everyone could have been unique. Purple is a different pose from everyone else (new, exciting!) but then also it’s the only one who isn’t shiny? Of course, they leave out the mysterious color “Indigo” (remember, rainbows have 7 colors but only 6 are here). It’s understandable to leave it out though, as it would add to the cost and is similar to both blue and purple. (I happen to love indigo, and wherever I do rainbow art you’ll always find it included, it is just very great to me) The set looks great together on any shelf! The poses are each active, the colors go well with each other, and purple really livens things up with a vivid dark color and new pose. The photo 3rd from top with all of them turned out especially nice for some reason that I don’t know. You can see them ‘reflected’ a little bit on the ground plane. They look like a cool crew headed off to do some sort of adventuring. A great set, and would certainly recommend it, if you can find it to buy. This is likely a fall 2021 set.

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...an all NEW kind of Breyer Unicorn? Yes, it’s a “Paddock Pals Unicorn Berry”. This is some kind of ‘budget Breyer’ meant to be sold at a lower price than their regular horses. It is about the size of their “Classics” line. But where will it be sold normally? (There’s a few sprinkled on ebay now) It’s different than normal in a few ways (aside from price) as well. The mane, tail, ears and horn are all some all-new rubbery material. You can bend them around easily. The ears, you can see are snapped into the head/slotted in rather than molded along with the rest of the unicorn. This doesn’t look bad at all, the hair/horn looks very normal and decently sculpted. It also would prevent breaking if the horse is dropped. Unlike others, there is a seam down the middle, however it is very minor and doesn’t matter especially with their good sculpting that this does retain.  As you can see, the paint is extremely minimal (to fit with budget) it’s just the hooves, eyes and nose and that’s it. They’ve chosen a good fantasy blue with bold dark pink hair and the silver for the hooves/horn goes well with it. The eyes look normal, and the face is pleasant looking. The box leaves the toy out in the open, but the plastic is some new/sturdy stuff so you shouldn’t have too many issues. It’s rainbow themed, with ‘starburst’ holes on the sides (maybe for weight?) and it is wire-tied in there. There are 4 on the set, but 2 of them are in the same pose (So, 2 poses total for the set) Of course, others will appear on future TTTs, and also these are going to get customized for certain. A solid addition to a fantasy collection...if you can find them at a budget price.

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Eira the Christmas Unicorn Breyer Ornament! After this disappointing broken Hallmark 2021 Powder MLP Ornament last week, it’s time to take a look at the reveal of Breyers for this year. Eira is a cool choice for the tree in a gradient of metallic blue with all-over white spots. It’s their random spotting/spatter method, so each one will likely be a little different. They used a draft-type horse for the mold, so there’s pretty white hair for the feet, a generous fantasy tail & nice mane. The horn is pretty gold, as are the hooves.  The detail looks good here too...the fade makes sense how it lightens as it gets to the ankles, and the pink/white nose is very cute on this one/it makes sense also. The eye & ear-interiors look like they’re well done. Blue/white = icy Christmas, (some trees/decor use only these 2, not the usual red/green) so she’ll be fitting with some decorations. The ‘florentene’ effect with white & the big white hair gives this a great fantasy winter look! A lovely character. This one really appeals to me. The pose, color, hair & ‘Christmas’ all getting together just right somehow. I’ve never tried to get one of their ornaments before, but this is one I’ll likely try for. It would be nice if they made this into a bigger/Traditional type horse too...

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Breyer Stablemates Size Unicorn Crazy Surprise Bag...differences. As with any (annoying) blind bagged toy, you’re bound to end up with more than 1 of something. In this case, it’s the Series 4 ‘Arabian’ type unicorn who is quite a dark blueish. However, you can see the one to the right is leaning into purple while the other is a bit more navy. These are airbrushed/sprayed somehow at the factory, so there’s going to be spray differences on all of them no matter what, but the color difference is what drove this post. It’s interesting that he varied this much, so I kept both.  The color is neat, but it seems neither the professional Breyer camera, nor this one really likes it that well. He does look different in person, and is especially different from the photo on the bag. A good and stylish one from the set though! With contrasty white/pearl mane on the dark colored body & nice silver hooves and horn. The fantasy is all around with this one. Remember: these are about 3 dollars at Walmart so anyone can go pick him up for fun!

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Schleich Mandala Unicorn Family! Schleich has released something new for 2021, and interestingly enough it is a Mare , a Stallion and a Foal all on the same family. (They generally just do random ones, like mare/foal or just a stallion sometimes--they’re hard to keep track of) The mandala is a complex circle of shapes. Notice how they put it where the MLP symbol goes on purpose.  The stallion is purple and white, with a nice purple leg gradient, glitter in his hair, and a silver horn. The gradient hair is nice too, so are the sparkle hooves. The mare is white and pink, but the pink is so ‘hot pink’ in this case that the photo looks tampered with or washing somehow. (It is the factory photo) She has stripes of glitter in her pink/dark pink blend hair and probably a dark pink horn. Their baby is lighter than both of them, being mostly white with middle-pink leg fade & light purple hair that looks like it may tip in dark pink. The horn here seems to be gold.  Each of their mandala symbols is pretty, with a good complex design. The poses are nice, nothing boring here, everyone’s stepping or walking. Getting photos of the other side of them for the hair sculpt would be nice too. This is another set I would collect if given the opportunity. Where are these sold?

It’s Toy Time Tuesday! With...Breyer Unicorn Crazy Surprise Bag Series 4 blue unicorn! It really is too bad these don’t get names. The 4th series of these has the walking Arabian again, and this time he is a good dark navy blue with white socks and white hair. The package strongly depicts him as being purple, but as you can see with the real photos here, he certainly isn’t. He has silver hooves and horn, with the usual black color eyes. They did allow over-spray of the blue onto the white for the hair which gives it a bit of a fade look. Do notice that the hair is also a pearly white, it’s not plain, which is nice as well. Why they added gray for the nose is unknown...maybe a bit of the super dark blue would be a bit better, but it doesn’t stand out or disrupt his look. This is a very bold choice that works well on this pose! The contrast of navy blue with the pearl white is great too. Series 4 seems to be doing fresh and different so far with the colors. Of course, he’s easy to get if you have a Walmart, he should be only about 3 dollars. A good pick to add to the collection!
