Heart Health
Keeping her eyes on the muddy track was difficult. Usually, she’d look up to the trees and spy birds nimbly dancing branch to branch or squirrels stare curiously at her, but when she saw him, her eyes went straight to the path they were running. From what she could see under his hoodie, he was handsome. Drop dead, must have been a model type of handsome. And his body? He gave her a small smile and wave, which she returned, when they passed one another, and she found her eyes lingering at his backside. God had blessed her today. Who said running wasn’t good for your health?
After a quick run, she liked to stretch beside the stream that cut through the crisp, untouched forest, tucked between a large oak and a jutting cliff. Having not been in town for a few days, she’d missed the rainfall and was thinking of how the mud seemed softer and slicker than usual when she slid down the riverbend on her backside. Cold mud slicked into her tights and sneakers while her hands clawed uselessly at the ground slipping under her. The mud had changed from the rain as had the stream that now resembled a river. Muddy, choppy waters covered the rocks she knew lay tucked within, and she readied herself for the fight to remain afloat.
Strong arms grabbed both her elbows just as she heard a grunt. The front of her sneakers hovered over the water, and she stopped. Frozen from the cold mud as well as the shock, she couldn’t thank her savior. “That was close! Are you ok? Hurt? Anything?” The frantic voice was unmistakeably male, and to her horror she found it was the hot guy from earlier. Who said running was good for your health?
“Nothing hurt, I think.” The man lifted her like she weighted nothing, and helped her hobble over to a rock. The side of his hoodie was stained. “Just my pride,” she confessed. “Who do I have to thank for the save? Or do you just run around saving everyone in the woods?”
The man brushed it off, and tried brushing the mud off her knees. “Name’s Connor.” His smile was only beat in purity by his almond eyes.
“Thanks Connor. (Y/N).” She looked at her muddied hand and then just gave him her elbow which he shook with a delicate laugh. “Thanks for saving me. Sorry your hoodie didn’t survive the ordeal.”
“Nah, this old thing?” Connor looked down at his side as if finally noticing the mud. “Nothing too bad. Sure nothing is hurt? Here, let me help you to your car.” Keeping a firm hand in hers, Connor helped her scale the side of the river before climbing after her. Then, he walked her to her car. When she got there, she froze. How in the world was she going to get in? Staring at the sky, she knew she shouldn’t have gone for her run. Who said running was good for your health?
Connor cleared his throat. “Looks like a job for Old Reliable.” Pulling his hoodie up, he briefly exposed his toned chest, arms, and stomach. She watched shamelessly until his head emerged from the other end, black hair messy now, and she pretended to inspect her car. “Here. To cover your seat.”
“I can’t. I mean, you already saved me, now you’re going to save my car?” Connor put the hoodie in her seat, setting it just right so no mud would get on it.
“Like you said, I run around saving people in the woods. Maybe I’m looking to expand my horizons.”
“I’ll give it back to you, washed and everything. Promise.” Digging into her cupholder, she pulled out her phone. “Here.”
The small smile on his lips was almost as adorable as his blush, which was not there when he was running, and he returned the phone. “You don’t have to. I wouldn’t want to be a bother.”
“It’s the least I could do.” She responded, and Connor helped her in. “I’ll text you.”
“Let me know you got home safely.” He waved her off, and she smiled. Who said running was good for your health?
Hear me out : modern Connor with a tongue piercing and/or maybe a labret 🥴
Modern Connor AU headcanons
I have a few random headcanons on modern Connor, that I need to get off my chest.
Firstly Zio is still alive.
She divorced Haytham when Ratohnhaké:ton was little and now haytham lives in England (he's probably still a shitty dad)
She still keeps in contact with Haytham for the sake of Connor, but they now have a very formal relationship.
So Zio is a single mum who raised Ratohnhaké:ton with help from her mother and Achilles (the nice old man who lives next door)
Achilles was technically his babysitter. At first he was hesitant to watch Connor but he slowly warmed up to him.
Connor was very athletic in school and was into music and biology.
He still an introvert and has a tight circle of friends.
He played Lacrosse in College. Which is sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America.
Original post
I just remembered that Edward kenway is 63 years older than Connor.
Therefore in a modern AU Edward would be either very dead or very old.
