bones... yummy ... cronch
I was a modern human; harsh artificial light spoke to me of fast food and big-box stores and public schools and gas stations. The light called up memories of nametags and advertisements and things on sale for something-or-another-.99. I could almost smell the industrial cleaner. They weren’t nostalgic memories, not by a long stretch, but they were memories of a safer, saner time.
Erin Ampersand, Making Friends: Apocalypse Parenting Book Two
Ronkalk
Ronkalk is the undisputed leader of The Broken Bone. His people journeyed far from the west in search of a new home after betrayal from an ally. At 50, he looks for a successor in Zulag but is unsure of his potential, instead deciding to name his young child instead. He likes to tinker with new tools in his spare time and talk philosophy with his followers. He also likes to spectate in the fighting pits. With a might-makes-right attitude, he has secured power for his band through difficult choices and strict leadership. His kindness however also shines through as he remembers the over 100 members of his community and all the inner workings of it. He tasked his nephew Zulag, Deeso, and Cikya to bring back someone who has lost their way.
Cikya
Cikya served the role as a spiritual guide as a trained priestess for her people, but particularly served as Zulag's mentor. Now 25 years old, she instructed him on how to navigate the otherworldly plane. She still practices though and enjoys making jewelry for her craft and to wear! Prior to her punishment that rendered her unable to speak, she was a smooth talker and flirted often with the many worshipers that came to rituals. She also used her position to get things done for her that she felt were beneath her status. Her crown of bones stays on her head as a reminder of her past life to others. Despite this setback, she maintains a cheery attitude and sees this new chance at life to redeem herself and her standing upon the members of her group.
Zulag
Nephew of the current leader of The Broken Bone, he's used to giving out orders rather than following them. An arrogant 20 year old, he prides his strength with throwing knives, but also contemplates his role with the various spirits around him and his people. He was supposed to inherit leadership once his uncle died, but now that his young cousin has been born, he was stripped of his birthright. He is actually well liked among the people of his society, but due to the structure of how things are run, dissent is crushed with overwhelming force. He has a short fuse and can be quite aggressive, but also charming when the need suits him.
Deeso
Sadal’s younger adoptive sister. Born under a solar eclipse, she was shunned by her first community and damned to a life of suffering and misery. She believes in a vision of peace and security, and will fight to achieve her dream. Aged 19, in her spare time, she likes to wrestle and track animals! She’s a part of The Broken Bone and is a strong follower with the tenets of their culture. While not as skilled as Sadal in hunting, she has other skills that shine through and are unfortunately put to waste. She has an ongoing feud with Zulag, their leader's nephew, as she thinks he does not deserve his position from nepotism, while Zulag hates her for being an outsider but the two are forced to work together when circumstances change.
Sadal
As a 21 year old firebrand, Sadal is one to not take any disrespect. Her society called The Broken Bone is one where might makes right. They were placed on this Earth in an eternal struggle against nature and have a will to clear out the land from dangerous animals. Her rank as a Master Hunter is essential to her identity, and it is a job she does well, along with taking care of her younger adopted sister Deeso. Sadal and Deeso were not born in this society, but were adopted into it, cast as Wanderers before qualifying and being allowed entry into the society. Sadal has a working knowledge of the meteor and its importance, and she decides to use this opportunity to escape some troubling circumstances, with the goal in mind to use the material to craft the ultimate weapon to slay anything in her path. In her off time, she enjoys designing clothing from the fresh pelts made from her kills and braiding hair!
Nezzall
Nezzall differs from his older brother as the more combative muscle of the two brothers, but he remains quite sharp as well. He often will find himself distracted flirting with the clientele, but this is also part of the ruse that he and his brother devise. Lull the target into a false sense of security long enough for Dronall to make the deal and cut their losses before it’s too late!
