There were many pros into coming back to Hogwarts after Christmas break. So many things can happen in such a short amount of time that you almost forget to talk about to your friends. However, there was one thing you never forgot to mention; your new learnings of modern lingo.
There were a good amount of muggles in Hogwarts so they somewhat knew what you were talking about. Though, it was pretty funny seeing the confused faces of other wizards whenever you used that lingo around them.
However, whenever you were in potions class, that was the best time.
You knew Professor Snape was a very simple man. He never changed anything about him and was the same. You never knew him to the type of person to question what his idiotic students had to say - only if it was something concerning Potter.
During one particular potions class, you remember talking to your friend about how cold it was when you had arrived home. With a laugh, you didn’t hesitate to let out some modern lingo, “I’m not kidding, it was mad bricks outside!”
Mad bricks.
That was the statement that made Severus Snape furrow his eyebrows in confusion. Your friend seemed to understand it, knowing full well you probably told them what it meant before.
Out of the corner of your eye, you saw the face of your professor and with a chuckle, you continued. Looking through the book, you sighed to your friend, “TBH, I think the Wolfsbane goes in next but I’m hella confused.”
Your friend laughed as Snape’s face continued to shift back and forth from understanding to confused. While you had fun messing with him, the class had been dismissed and you walked out, “hope you don’t have FOMO ‘cuz you don’t understand, Professor!”
Snape made his way to dinner in the Great Hall, a smirk staying on his face. It might’ve seemed dumb, but he needed a way to have some kind of relationship with the oddest student of them all.
Seeing you talking with your friends, he nodded his head towards your group. They shifted in their seats, giving a small nod back. You turned around, “oh hey Professor Snape. Your robes are on fleek tonight!’
When he walked away, he started chuckling to himself, “I have no idea what you are saying, L/N.” After he said that, you and your friends laughed among yourselves.
The next couple days had been uneventful, no new reason to include any lingo in anything you said. Most of your friends understood what you meant, but sometimes it was still amusing to see confused faces. However, Professor Snape hasn’t given any looks.
Today though, you decided to go to Gladrags Wizardwear to get some new glasses like Luna Lovegood’s. She had said you’d look “absolutely groovy” in them; her words, not yours.
Unbeknownst to you, Severus Snape had overheard that short conversation and knew exactly what he would say to you when he saw you in class.
With nothing short of confidence, you strolled into potions with the unique glasses and sat down, taking note to Snape’s back turned.
When Professor Snape did turn around, he made direct eye contact - well, sort of - with you. With a straight face, he didn’t hesitate, “groovy glasses, L/N.”
You had barely a chance to breathe before you started crying of laughter, your friends along with you. Looks of confused faces littered the room, others laughing along because the one and only simple Severus Snape just said “groovy.”
Class had barely gotten through at all due to all the giggles filling the room. Your swirls on your glasses made you look a bit odd while you laughed but you couldn’t stop; what had just happened?
When class dismissed, Snape called you back to him before you left. Lifting them up, you let your glasses rest up on your head, “yes, Professor?”
Snape let a small smile form on his face, “I see you enjoyed my little compliment today.”
Letting out another laugh, you nodded, “how could I not? That honestly made my day!”
His smile stayed on his face, “well, the only reason I knew that was because I. . .heard you and Lovegood.”
It took you a moment to recall the conversation before you realized, “oh. . .oh! Well, do you want to learn some modern lingo?”
Snape tried not to seem like he was looking forward to spending time with you, “how could I pass up this opportunity?”
With a laugh, you smiled up at your potions professor as you both sat down, “well, first off, groovy is such a 70′s thing. A modern word to like, replace that, would be like. . .”
After a bit while laughs were exchanged, you decided Severus Snape was a modern lingo master. It was odd hearing him say these things, but they were the best moments. One thing that seemed to shock Snape the most was hearing that women called guys “daddy” when they weren’t even their dad.
The next day during potions class, of course, Snape seemed very laid back. It was an easy day, just some simple notes and talking about some potions your class would be making for the second quarter. Finally, the class had ended and everyone gathered their things.
Before you left with your friends, you looked behind to Snape. With a bright smile and a wave, you were about to leave, “bye, Professor Snape!”
Snape didn’t hesitate to respond, “bye, bae!” He heard your laugh echo throughout the halls of Hogwarts as he himself chuckled.
