Penang BN rep gets one-day suspension
GEORGE TOWN, Nov 14, 2014
A Barisan Nasional state representative’s refusal to apologise to those in the medical profession for alleging uttering detrimental remarks against them in the last sitting, got him suspended from the House for one day today.
Datuk Roslan Saidin (BN- Pinang Tunggal) was barred from attending the first day of the sitting today.
Speaker Law Choo Kiang announced the suspension after Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng tabled a motion in accordance with Sub-rule 109B(1) of the House Standing Order and a motion passed by the House on Dec 11, 2013 to refer Roslan to the Rights and Privileges Committee.
The motion had demanded the Pinang Tunggal representative apologise in the assembly session by saying that: “I apologise if my statement had offended medical profession and ethics.”
The motion had stated that Roslan would be suspended for a day if he failed to apologise.
Roslan declined to apologise by saying that he did not mention anything racist or detrimental against the medical profession.
“I refuse to apoloise for something that I did not commit.
“I am willing to be suspended for a day,” said Roslan.
He was referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee after he alleged in the House sitting last year that he had received complaints that several doctors in a public hospital refused to treat Malay patients.
The Health Ministry which then probed the matter found no evidence of such elements.
